I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.

hello! whose translation of brothers karamazov did you read? Also which ones are the best translations for dosto in general?
Hello 🤗 My copy is Andrew MacAndrew. I like it and it's fairly good to go with. In bookstagram, people have often told me that the Garnett and Pevear & Volokhonsky translations are the best. I suggest you to go with the one which suits your reading.

✨ a few books i hope to read in 2024 ✨
last year, i read 57 books. thanks to master's, i read a diverse range of works. i usually switch between mindful reading and planned reading every year. last year, i had a set reading goal and a monthly reading tracker. this year, i would be reading books, minus any fixed number.
I had started the brothers karamazov, another complex work by dosto, but sadly couldn't finish in 2023. so this year, i will finish reading it. and this year, i also hope to finish reading all of austen's novels.
what's your reading resolutions for the year?
