Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?

Reworked Zoey, an older character of mine who was initially conceived as the lead singer of Zinnias, but got ousted by the rest of her bandmates because they were sick of her snotty behavior. (they didn't actually like. want to sing. their parents kinda shoved them into it and being like 12 or 13 at the time didn't know how to like. communicate that.)
I had a thought recently that Zoey, after emancipating herself from their parents and moving to live with her adult brother, started exploring other means of expressing himself, ultimately coming to the conclusion that they're genderqueer and extremely passionate about dance and working out. They've also been (trying) to get on better terms with their old bandmates to varying degrees of success.

i wrote this in the notes of another post originally and am copy + pasting it here because im right but "tell the cops nothing, tell the doctors everything" is such a stupid ass fucking abled take. doctors engage in policing idk how to explain to yall that some people cannot in fact just tell doctors everything without it putting them at risk
like im not gonna go into the myriad of ways this is bs but like a quick example is i cant tell my doctors about my substance use issues because if i get that listed on my medical records it will actively endanger me. It will impact how I'm treated in emergency situations and will get me labeled as "drug seeking" when i try to get other issues dealt with.
i dont say this to scare people but because this is actually important information for people to have. if a medical professional claims this isnt an issue, they are NOT "one of the good ones". they are either straight up lying or theyre utterly unaware, which is frankly not better. doctors are cops. never forget it
like YES tell ur doctor abt being sexually active but stop saying "tell the cops nothing and the doctor everything" before i start killing in cold blood

Another Miinu lore dump, this time involving breeding! Not like that yet.
First a diagram of how Miinu eggs develop. They incubate for around the same time a human baby gestates. The egg is semi-translucent allowing the parent to see the baby develop in real time. The eggs are fragile and need to be tended to to keep them warm, moist, and free of parasites and predators.
NEXT IS GENETICS
Miinu of different bug kins can reproduce with each other just as easily as same species, though the results differ. The closer in species the two miinu are, the more likely some hybrid traits will occur, but for miinu who are vastly different species, the offspring will usually match the species of just one parent. Other things such as facial features, body type, hair texture and markings are often unique to the individual and will be added into the gene pool regardless of species.
Mutations like the one at the bottom right are extremely rare, as not only does there need to be an error in the gene that determines species, but often these babies aren't viable. Mixing certain bug kin features that are incompatible can often lead to health issues not just in development, but also down the road. Many do not hatch, many more do not survive metamorphosis. Those who do will often be infertile and have health complications for their whole lives.

Something you believe when you grow up in an abusive environment is that you have to earn love, and you only are supposed to love someone if they try very very hard for it, and that love is reciprocal.
This is actually fundamentally untrue. Love is a bottomless resource, it doesn't need to be rationed, and there are plenty of people who love you and may never tell you. When someone reblogs your post to assign you a silly little poll option based on some element of your personality that they picked up, that's love. And love doesn't have to be returned to be valid. There are people who I've followed and expressed love to/for and they never knew it or knew me. I've loved customers, I've loved patients, I've loved people who leave heart emojis in comments on my fics.
Love is everywhere and it is free, and there's always more to go around. You don't have to be stingy with love and give it only to those who "earn it" the way you were taught you must. And if someone shows you love, you don't have to give it back. It's not a competition, it's not compensation.
