Ugh, was having a great time mocking my recently imprisoned rival when I noticed the camera positioning makes it so that I appear behind the bars, thus framing me as trapped in a metaphorical prison of the narrative, now my whole day is ruined. Fuck.

but I took some time out of uni work for the first time in I-don’t-know-how-bloody-long to do something just for me, and I feel so much better for it

Initial character sketches for the new Mechanisms set, High Noon Over Camelot. I still have only the sketchiest idea of what Gawain ought to look like (early 30s, probably Chinese) and no idea at all about Lancelot or Galahad. But with these three it’s pretty clear to me how they should look, I just need to get it right. Mordred is the easiest, he’s just Frank with a different jawline (because unfortunately even though I just imagine him being Frank, he needs to look totally different so there’s no confusion between him and Ashes, who actually IS Frank). Arthur’s bugging me because his face is very clear to me but I can’t pin it down.

This is very funny to me - it's like saying your dad decided High Noon Over Camelot is about the wild west, or Ulysses Dies at Dawn is about film noire. Like, yeah, Gunpowder Tim is riffing on WWI - almost all the songs are based on old soldiers songs from the war, the tunnel-fighting is inspired by trench warfare, and the last time Germany had a "Kaiser" was Kaiser Wilhelm II, who abdicated after the German surrender.

Genuinely curious as to what you thought it was about, if you didn't have WW1 as a cultural touchstone?
