can people please shut up about the love languages?? they were cooked up as a gimic to sell self published books by a conservative homophobic evangelical priest who hated his wife and lied about being a qualified psych!!! nothing about the love languages is a legitimate analytical tool. your otp makes sense because they're written well by people who are good at their craft, not because person a likes gift giving and person b likes affirmation. your partner doesn't understand your needs because you both need to be better at communicating or you're actually not good together, not because their love language is acts of service or some shit. everyone likes being given things and told nice things and kind gestures! Listen, I get why people stan Ice Pick Joe, I really do, but the people who do are betraying a fundamental misunderstanding of the character and themes of Goncharov entirely. The whole POINT of Joe is that, while he claims to want an out from the cycle of violence he's in, that he really enjoys killing. It's most clear in the scene between him and Katya about midway through the movie, where all of his language is just shot through with metaphors for killing Andrei. While he never outright admits to his desire, it's very clear that he has a strong association between those he sees as enemies and a need to kill them to resolve that problem. Sure, in his final scenes he seems to regret his actions in going after Goncharov himself, but I read that last lingering shot more as him despairing that he *failed*, not that he never tried at all.
