So I'm sitting at my desk when suddenly I feel a light shaking. I pause, notice that my monitors too are rocking back and forth. I am very afraid of earthquakes. I rip my headphones off and listen hard: nothing. But my plants are swaying as if in a breeze and I learned as a kid that hanging plants are the first harbinger of destruction, the riders on the storm. I stand up, then freeze, stock still, like a deer welcoming death. Still no rumbling. Finally, finally, I stumble out into the hallway, weighing whether to wait or grab my 4 year old and run downstairs, and that's when I hear... the washing machine.

Holy AU, yes please
listen... if I were on Voyager and Captain Janeway contracted a virus that meant she had to stay on some random planet forever and Voyager had to continue on without her, I would simply move to that planet with her
Like, I feel like a good portion of that crew would do the same. In a heartbeat
Janeway is on that planet trying to find a cure, but even if she does, she and Chakotay will never catch up to Voyager and they'll never make it home
Voyager is facing a 70-year journey as it is
They could have just stayed there and lived on "New Earth" until they found a cure. There was no reason the ship had to leave so fast.
Just saying lol

Do you ever see something like this:
and think, "This'll be a fun little thing to read while I wait."
And then you read it and you're fundamentally changed as a person and you're left staring off into the middle distance as you contemplate life and love and connection and what it all means?

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
Update: There's now a Megathread about this on the AO3 subreddit.

This happened to me in grad school. I had to provide proof of immunity, my parents had lost my documentation, did the thing and found I was Not Impervious to Mumps.
Which was important to know, because I was on hardcore immunosuppressants at the time, so could not repeat the MMR right away and would've gone down hard in an outbreak. Sounds unlikely, but at the time antivaxxers were causing massive measles outbreaks in the area.
Heyyyy
So, if you've had Covid (or suspected you did, even if you never tested +), next time you get blood drawn for something, ask to have your immunities run. I had mine checked last fall and while I was still fine with measles and rubella, but had zero immunity to mumps. This is a moderately easy fix (I got a second round of the MMR series and tested fine this spring) but with how infectious diseases are making a comeback, keep an eye out, y'all.
Covid resets shit. Keep yourselves safe.

Well. She's drinking this when they're still docked at DS9:
and that ain't no coffee, black
omg Tom Paris drinks raktajinos!
Or at least he mentions that he's going to in 2x16 Meld lol
It's just so funny to me how raktajinos are mentioned in nearly every episode of DS9, but almost never on Voyager lol
Does Janeway know about them? Why does she only drink coffee in a universe where ratkajinos exist? She still needs to replicate it either way lol
