so remember that project I mentioned previously having a hard time understanding? It was for mittens! my sister's birthday was in January and I promised her I'd make her something she wanted (within reason), and she asked for some soft and warm mittens for when she travels. I figured I've been wanting to try working w wool, so this was the perfect opportunity!
After a few months working on this off and on (partially bc I didn't quite understand what I was doing, partially because of general Busy), I finally managed to finish one mitten! And I think it looks hella good so far
I'm using Malabrigo Rios 100% superwash merino wool in the color azules, and I'm using this pattern from CrochetCraftsbyJen on Etsy
it's a little snug around my fat fingers and I know it'll be similar for my sister, so the mitten is currently sitting in some woolwash and getting ready to be dried and blocked as I type this. Afterwards I do need to sew a button onto the back of the hand to keep the mitten flap in place when it's not being used, but it's so promising!
Depending on how these come out I may end up making myself a pair, bc man is it so hard to find gloves that are cute AND fit my baby hands AND are functional
I am such a simple creacher truly. I have been an anxious mess all day for no understandable reason today so as a reward for getting through the day I made a scratch chocolate milkshake and now I'm :)
I feel I should specify when I talk about the vast majority of Israelis supporting this genocide it's not to call for violence of them or even to demonise them. It's to call attention to Israel having a genocidal education system which dehumanises Palestinians from the moment Israelis start school. Ilan Pappé did a study in 1994 of the Israeli education system and raised the alarm that it would raise a generation who are even worse than those who first colonised Palestine in 1948. We're seeing the truth of that now.
I raise this point because we're seeing this attempt by politicians and the media to claim that it's just Netanyahu who is to blame for this genocide and not a systematic problem that requires boycotting, divestments and sanctions to push them to correct. This lie is being pushed because they do not want to change the status quo which allows for Israel to steal Palestinian land and homes and keep Palestinians under military occupation.
if you got an additional line of income that guaranteed your basic needs would be met, (notes below)
notes:
- the money can come from whatever source you'd like to imagine. UBI, sugar daddy, magically delivered in unmarked bills onto your dining table overnight by elves, blackmailing jeff bezos, wherever
- it will keep coming indefinitely
- basic needs: housing, food, medical care, clothes, a bit of disposable income, etc. You would not be rich, but you would have enough. It will rise with inflation and such, to have the same purchasing power as before, and will cover you and your dependents
- any money you earn at your job (or anywhere) is on top of the basic needs money. How much you get is not affected by how much you make elsewhere
- vacation doesn’t necessarily mean you go anywhere; you just don't need to go to work
my partner is playing through a soulsborne game again which means I can respect a reply back from them every 2-5 business days and it's the funniest thing every time
Wanted to bring attention to the fact that Bisan called for mass protests today (April 1st). It’s okay if you can’t march yourself, but please make it a point to spread this so that those who can march do so—and also take this as your own checkpoint to ask yourself if you’ve been faltering in terms of sharing information about Palestine, doing what you can to fund humanitarian aid in Palestine, and staying informed as to the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Some might say it has been 6 months of this, but to me that’s all the more reason to make noise now more than ever. This is one of very few spaces on the Internet where Palestine has not been abandoned in people’s endless efforts to dehumanize Arabs. Please continue amplifying the dialogue surrounding this genocide. Free Palestine. Free Palestins always.
