Dyeing silk in black walnut is the best. You just boil some nuts and chuck the silk in the pot no mordant like with cotton or linen no worrying about it seizing of felting like with wool i love you silk in black walnut

might be a weird ask but i like your work and wouldn't mind like, trying to learn from you? as an artist.
yeah do literally whatever the fuck you want. trace it for all i care. for that matter you should learn from any and all artists you enjoy, not just me. save it all into a folder impulsively, print them out and tape them to your wall (i do!). copy elements directly, the way an artist draws an arm, a mouth, anything. steal outfits from drawings, theyre free! its all free, did you know that? you dont actually have to ask like youre doing here. in fact, dont ask! i feel like we might be at a low point or something in the general understanding of art if we really feel a need to ASK before we mimic or take inspiration from somebody. honestly id like it if it just happened while i wasnt looking, i really dont need to be made aware. im not conjuring my artwork out of the ether or anything. i copy and mimic and trace all the time, every artist does, its not weird, its all free.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
an art quilt sample. its about 14x18in i think.
pentel dye sticks, procion dye on top of some of the fabric treated with the dye sticks, and scraps sandwiched between a backing fabric and a layer of tulle so that when i free-motioned sewed it in the machine the little scraps wouldn't get caught in the ring of the machine foot. there's a specific quilter that does this and my teacher based on the idea to me but i can't find her name rn :(

Meatcat, 2022.
the majestic sphinx is known for her riddles and oracles. please ask her about whatever's on your mind.
materials, processes, measurements:
organic cotton naturally dyed with madder and alum+ferrous sulfate mordant. I didn't mordant the base cloth so the madder would come out as this dusty pink instead of a bright red. I drew out my pattern pieces on the fabric and then spent a full week drawing on the mordant pattern with a little squeeze bottle applicator. Then I cut, sewed, and garment-dyed her. She's stuffed mostly with scrap foam and yarn from my school. She is Heavy and big, maybe 3.5 ft / 1 m long.

a definite favorite of all the bears i made. her new dad named her patricia
i layered and sewed down cotton and linen scraps over some kind of synthetic mesh, then used devoree paste to burn away some of the cellulose fiber. she's button-pointed at her legs and stuffed with recycled polyfil, sequins, and beads.

Raoul, the man of the hour, 2023, 35in diameter, approx. 2.5ft tall
my final for a felting elective! he was a big hit with the ladies<33
materials, processes, and in-progress photos:
two part sculpture: his main body is wet and needle felting over an armature of pink insulation foam strung on a hula-hoop. I filled the gaps with expanding foam and shaved the overflow off with a box-cutter. Then I painted most of his body, and buffed out his head and jaw with scrap upholstery foam that is cobbled together with sewing and glue. I don't have pictures of it here but I also cut and shaped pink foam legs. Then I made big wet-felt rectangles to cover his back and sides and wet-felt socks to pull over his legs. Everything was tacked down thoroughly with felting needles and then needlefelt details were added, including covering his belly with anchored in tufts. The ear and eyes are all needlefelt over sponges, and the teeth are just raw needlefelted wool. Then all my professor and I had to do was spend a full afternoon trying to engineer a stable stand for his legs because I had tried just inserting them in on doles and no matter how much I tried to line them up properly they were jsut going everywhere and it was a sorry sight when I'd try to stand him up. We ended up making a little wooden pentagon that he sits on top of; lucky his fuzzy belly hides it pretty well and his new owner just has him standing on the ground in her office. I also put a mix of glue and water over certain parts of his face like his eyes, tearducts, gums and teeth so they have a smoother look.
