Leyte Island
Leyte Island
Leyte island is an island in the visayas group of the Philippines. I have focused more on the two provinces. Southern leyte includes the island of panaon and the north of leyte includes the province of Biliran.
In terms of Geography, the Island measures about 180 kilometres north-south and about 65 kilometres at its widest point. In the north it nearly joins the island of Samar, separated by the San Juanico Strait.
Now, I would like to introduced with you the Panaon Island. Panaon Island is a small island in the Philippines which is located in the province of Southern Leyte. It lies south of leyte, separated from Dinagat to the east and Mindanao to the southeast by Surigao Strait.
Panaon Island is composed of the municipalities of Liloan, San Francisco, Pintuyan and San Ricardo. The basic forms of living are harvesting coconut, rice, fish and edible green leaves.
Some of their ways in order for them to survive are scuba diving and whale watching locally wherein it is popular tourist activities.
Now, let us proceed to the north of leyte includes the province of Biliran. I will discussed first the Etymology of Biliran. During the early Spanish era, the name called Biliran Island was known as Isla de Panamao. The present name believed to be adopted sometime between the late 17th century and the early 18th century was, according to many publications, derived from a native grass called borobiliran which once grew abundantly on the island’s plants because as we have observed that Biliran surrounded by grass and plants.
In terms of Geography, Biliran has a total land area of 536.01 square kilometres, making it the fourth smallest province in the Philippines. The island lies off the northern coast of leyte island across Biliran Strait.
These two Islands help us to identify the good sceneries of Leyte Island that there are many Islands there who were not yet visited by the people.
