D.GRAY-MAN FAN EVENT (05/11/2023) ENGLISH SUM-UP
Hello.
As you may know, there was a D.Gray-man fan meeting with Hoshino Sensei on November, 5th. I've written a small thread for the ones who wanted just the essential information, but here, I'll do a more detailed translation of what has been said during the event.
How did the event take place ? The fan who were present selected their favorite panels from the manga and Hoshino Sensei would comment them and explain them in front of the fan. Then, she answered some fans' questions.
There is no real spoiler
I. Manga panels explanation
1. Kanda and Allen speaking after the Mattel mission "I want to be an destroyer who can save people"
She insisted on the fact that broken things like, Lala, don't come back to their former state. This includes Timcampy as well (😭). So did Allen really save Guzol and Lala ? That's up to the reader.
She wanted Guzol to say "I love you" (Ai shite iru) but it ended up in "Daisuki" because at this moment, Guzol was like a small kid.
2. Lenalee drinking her Innocence during the Invasion ark
She wanted to draw Lenalee as beautifully as possible. Like if she were drinking holy water. It's almost a religious type of drawing.
Hoshino sensei said she will write again about the relationship and the past of Komui and Lenalee. It was a very hard scene to draw. The words "I'm off" (Ittekimasu) "I'm home" (Tadaima) "Welcome home" (okaeri) are very important words in D.Gray-man
3. When Allen tries to save Suman
At this time, Hoshino Sensei was not very sure how to draw Allen. It was the first time she was drawing Allen in such a weak state (physically and psychologically). However, Allen is at his weakest, it is the reason why he wanted to help Suman. It's very Shonen-manga like.
At first, Hoshino Sensei wanted to save Suman as well, but then, Tyki came out and she understood she had no other choice but to kill him.
4. The first activation of Clown Crown
She wanted to show Allen becoming less and less human, almost like a saint. Also, it's the very first change of Allen : he changed from being a boy to being a man. For Hoshino sensei, it was her first goodbye with the former Allen. It was difficult (psychologically) to draw.
A fan asked why it was an AKUMA, and not a Noah himself, who attacked the Asiatic branch. She answered Allen can feel AKUMAS, so if it were a Noah, Allen would have taken more time to realise he was there. Besides, AKUMA can report to Noahs, so they would have known what happened anyways. At last, for Allen, AKUMAS are one of his reasons of living, so she made AKUMAS attacked the Asian branch.
Also, she knew the Allen and the Earl would face eventually and she decided that it would be the occasion to show Allen is the counter part of the Earl (Good clown/Crown Clown VS the Earl)
A fan asked if Hoshino Sensei was first thinking about the Innocence, or the character ? And does the Innocence have a personality ?
She answered the Innocence is like a character for her, it has its own personality and its own will.
5. The scene between Alma and Kanda in Mattel
From the moment Kanda and Alma were in the Order together, Kanda has always wanted to tell him to run together. Kanda wanted to run away, from a very a long time. It was the first time Kanda was really honest with his feelings. Hoshino Sensei was literally screaming while writing this scene.
Q. Why is the background white for this scene ?
A. It is white because Sensei wanted to show it was only the two of them in their world.
Q. Where do the children from the Second exorcist project come from ?
A. They are male babies, abandoned by their families, that the Order picked up. Because it is a project from the Asian branch, it is mostly Asian kids.
6. The scene with master Zu and Kanda (when he comes back)
For Hoshino sensei, this was the moment Kanda became Kanda Yu. Until this moment, Kanda was caught up in his past, but he got free.
Q. Do Lenalee and Kanda have a romantic interest?
A. They don't ! Actually, for Hoshino Sensei, Lenalee thought it was kind of disgusting when Kanda drank the Innocence from her hand.
7. The scene with Lenalee and Allen when he runs from the Order : Allen-kun, where are you going ?
So, for this scene, Hoshino Sensei had really a lot of troubles to think about the dialogue. It is easy to write empty but cool dialogues, but she didn't want to do that with D.Gray-man. When she writes a dialogue for Allen, it needs to match to Allen personality. You have to think that a bit of Hoshino Sensei is within Allen as well.
Q. When you were writing the characters's ressources at the beginning, did you know Allen would run away from the Order ?
A. Yes, I knew it but since it was a long time ago (when I first wrote the characters story lines), I realised it didn't match what I was writing so I had to change a bit.
Q. When will Lavi appear ?
A. I won't make you wait five more years. Probably next year, I'm preparing it. Lavi will appear soon, please wait ! However, I don't know if he will appear in a form that everyone wished for (!)
Q. Recently, Allen has not cried a lot even though he is going through a lot. When it's hard, he is smiling. Will he ever be saved ?
A. Allen is wearing Mana's mask, if he is not wearing it, he could not live on. This is the reason why I feel Allen is cursed in many ways. I think Allen will really cry a lot when he will have to face Nea. In the future, Allen will definitely cry a lot.
8. I thank you Allen Walker (by Kanda)
This scene is the last moment of Kanda before he comes back as Kanda Yu.
When he said those words, he was 80% his old self, when she means his old self, she means the base of the Second exorcist project.
9. The scene where everyone says to Allen "Welcome home" after the ark
To be honest, she is not sure Allen will ever be told "Welcome home" again. Allen never thought in the first place he would have a life where someone would tell him welcome home as he is an orphan.
Q. Do you think Kanda will call Allen by his name again ?
A. For me, for the moment, there is no chance.
Q. Did Road know Allen was the host ?
A. Yes, she knew it from the moment they met.
Q. Has D.Gray-man ever encountered the risk of being discontinued?
A. No, never. During the meeting for the 10 years of the publication, I was afraid it would, but the editors never talked about it. I was so happy and I understood I had still a long ride to go.
II. Random facts (fan questions)
-Cross Marian purposely chose a name that sounded too good to be true, like a perfect name. It is not his real name. We will discover more about him, but it will be probably after Lavu appears.
-Kanda uses soap, Cross made his own shampoo and Tyki has someone washing his hair for him
-If Allen has a bad mouth, it is because of his education and environment when he was young. For Kanda, it is just because of his personality.
-Road has good grades at school, as she lived fro many years. She asked other Noahs to help her with her homeworks just because she didn't want to do it.
-Cross likes determined women. Allen likes women who can cook and who can make him feel at home.
-Jasdevi don't wear underwears.
- Obviously, there is a reason why Tyki looks like Nea
- Kanda doesn't eat what Link cooks because he hates CROWS.
- In the chapter where Allen is trapped within Nea's world and talking with Cross, Allen has a kid represents his anxiety and worries. As an adult, he embodies his will and determination.
Well, that's all ! Maybe there are things that I missed but it is because this sum up is a patchwork of different Japanese sum up, as there is no transcript of the talk show.

Zeno has never been clear in his whole millennial life lol
The following is my opinion: the "go against the gods" is an old quote and It's definitely a foreshadow. But I think it's going to be the dessert before the finale. I believe Zeno at that time was expressing the concept "I would fight the immortality (gods) and discover a way to get back my humanity to rejoin Kaya, even if it meant to abandon my duties and Hiryuu." It would be funny if Chagol promised Zeno the mortality and he turned his back on the Red Dragon. What puzzles me is the chalice vessel, there's 100% something we miss. So any theory I can articulate is thin air.
I would love a Zeno villain plot twist, but I'm not convinced. Zeno would have not warned Yona otherwise. Although we have so poor clues that anything is possible.
Conspiracy theory time

Chapter 235 when Zeno was attacked by the assassin who stole the chalice, he became unusually violent and commented he was desperately holding on to him.
CHapter 236 to protect the Red dragon, the dragon gods collected their blood inside the chalice and gave it to the human warriors.
Chapter 241 Holding the chalice in his last moments, Chagol expresses his last wish "If I could be reborn, next time I'd like the place I go to, to be more peaceful".
Chapter 236/241 when the dragons own the chalice, it regenerates their powers and heal their bodies.
Chapter 245 In Yona's dream a worried Zeno has the chalice in his left hand "Miss it's coming, don't let it get away".
Chapter 250 we cannot see Zeno's left side and determine if he has the chalice or not. He's alone, there are no dead (or living) bodies around him. He states he has been caught and the next panel oddly goes pitch black.
The questions are : where is he now? What was the meaning of the warning he gave Yona inside her dreams? Something is coming to where or whom? And what is Yona supposed to do?
My very imaginative theory is that Chagol drank from the chalice, somehow survived and gained the mastery over the dragons (becoming the famous phoenix perhaps, reborn from the ashes?). The four dragons went berserk because the chalice was originally meant to protect the Red deity and not some human. Zeno managed to keep his will like Ki-ja because of Hiryuu's earring. The two left dragons were sent to check on Chagol's enemies, Jae-ha to Yona and Shin-Ah to Suwon. Then Chagol summoned the dragons back somewhere, hence they disappeared one after the other. Zeno escaped and he was caught because Shin-Ah (who's now serving Chagol) found him. Thanks to his eyes the Phoenix now knows his position, which is why he is annoyed.
Zeno was warning Yona that IT is coming, a new supernatural being who could defy the divine order the heavens established. To stabilize the Dragons Yona must retrieve the chalice and once the 4 are gathered again, "to protect the king (Hiryuu)" maybe there's a chance for the sword and the shield to appear once and for all.

Volume 9
the feeling of wanting to say something
Thank you for reading. This is the 9th volume of Vampire Knight Memories. As someone who loves bookstores, I am truly honored and happy that they continue to publish not only electronic versions but also paper books. What was commonplace in the past is no longer so… These are the days when I am savoring the present. I can only express my gratitude to all the readers who have been with me this far. Because, as I have said many times, the book would not have been published if there were no readers. And I don't think i would have continued the manga in the first place. So, thank you very much. Thank you for your letter as well. There are probably two more volumes of memories left.
From here on, I will explain Hino's real life now.
A worsening of a chronic disease, hospitalization for surgery, abnormalities in eyesight and knuckles, contracting the new coronavirus and its after-effects, aging parents, parting ways with a calico cat who i loved her like a daughter… It has overlapped over the past few years. I try to separate my daily joys, angers, and sorrows so that they don't affect the inner parts of the story, but I don't know if I've been successful. All I can tell is that my boldness, calmness, and sensitivity to excitement have softened. I know this, so I always worry about it. However, the damage to my mind and body that I sustained in my daily life had an impact on the series itself. The editor in charge and the people at the printing shop really made the most of their time, and thanks to that, I managed to get it to the magazine, but it wasn't very complete…it was the best I could do to write this sentence. Now that I'm on vacation, I've been receiving treatment, I've gotten used to taking on the responsibilities of my parents, and I feel like I've recovered from the damage.
Sudden suspension of publication, reduced number of pages, and above all, the completeness of the manuscript screen. There are more things that are better than pencil sketches.
That kind of thing has increased.
Just a little more.
I want to do my best. I hope you will stay with me until the end.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the person in charge and everyone who has been involved in bringing this manga to the world, to O. Mizo-sama and his A. Ichiya-sama who are always my assistants, and to everyone who reads it.

HOSHINO KATSURA'S LIVE (29/10) ON STAND FM
Hello,
Today, Hoshino Sensei did her first live on Stand.fm. Here is a small sum-up, as usual. It was an one hour and half live, so I can't write down everything, but I tried to sum up the main information which could interest the fans.
Beware, there are SPOILERS of the last chapter, night 249.
The stickers
She has been told to write 6 characters by her editors, but she didn't know who to draw.
Why the sunglasses ? It was made for Allen and Lavi. At first, she wanted to make a Halloween illustration of her characters dresses as bartender, and she realised sunglasses would look great on Allen and Lavi. So everyone ended up with sunglasses.
She made Tim having cheeks with All on purpose as she thinks Tim and Allen's relationship is special.
She wanted to draw Levellier in sunglasses, it would look great on him.
About the event
She will make a live in two weeks to speak about the event.
As she will move to Kobe next year. It will be probably her last event in Tokyo.
She will probably do other events in the Kansai area as it will be close to her new home. The place needs to be near her house because she needs to come home for her two cats.
She wants to do many events, but it depends on the places : they need shops or places to organise it.
ABOUT THE CHAPTER
The first page
The small sentences on the first page are not from her but from her editor.
She actually didn't see it before the magazine publication. The same goes for the sentence on the last page : the editors decide, not the mangaka. They don't even know about it.
She decides the title. HOWEVER, her editor made a big mistake on the title. The title should has been "Saying goodbye to Allen Walker" but her editor changed it on "Saying goodbye to A.W" like all the chapters of the ark. But this chapter will be the last of the saying goodbye to A.W so she wanted to write "Allen Walker" in full letters to make an impact, but her editor missed it. It will be changed when the volume is on sale.
The goal of the first page was to make understand how much the mansion they were in was luxurious.
At first, her assistant wanted to draw a lobsters in Link's hands (to show how luxurious it was) but she eventually erased it for vegetables.
Kanda is not eating soba but vegetables and meat. She loves the way Kanda is sitting.
About the change of the clothes and hair
She wanted to change Link's clothes too but Leverellier gave him those clothes, so she thought Link would not change them. She wanted to change them because they are difficult draw (lol). Her assistants think Link's clothes are ugly, she was made fun of when she first draw them.
About Allen's new style :
She changed Allen's clothes as she thinks his clothes became dirty. Actually, she didn't want to draw dirt, as it is difficult to draw, so she changed it si it became easier to draw for her.
Allen's new clothes is DARK BLUE. We'll have the first colour illustration for the Jump Festa in December.
Allen has a white pant : it is probably the first time he is wearing one. You can see his butt, she thinks it is cute and a bit erotic. The point is to make a parallel with Allen's clothes before he came to the order, in the first chapter.
About Allen's hair : she was used to draw him with long hair, but she prefers Allen with shorter hair. She thinks it is more like him.
About the next cover
Allen won't be on the cover. It won't be Nea as well. It will be "this person".
About the telephone scene
The telephone was super hard to draw, especially the balance between the old phone and the characters' body.
She was screamed during the telephone scene.
About the new emblem : her assistant drew it. It was difficult to but she was sastified with the results. The emblem was designed to eventually become a goodie (so probably the Bookman's emblem?) She cannot say what kind of leaves are on the emblem.
Kanda, Allen and Link
Lavi will appear soon, please wait a bit more !
She likes drawing Link and Kanda fighting. Kanda hates Link, and generally all the Crows.
She said she is sad that she eventually got used to draw Tiedoll but he won't appear soon (probably because we will stay on Allen's POV?)
She said the scene in the sunset was important. Especially because of Allen and Kanda's conversation.
About Allen's smile : he has many way of smiling, but she really drew with precision this smile as it is a very important scene. Each time, Allen's smile is different.
The last page
The narration : please think it's like her own voice.
The new character? It's someone with beautiful tooth. From the face shape you might guess who this person is (so apparently, it's a character we have already seen ?) She said some people could guess.
