Literally academics went from village to village to "judiaze" their names into hebre and try to erase Arab Palestinian presence. This is not a secret. They wrote books about this. Dr. Salman Abu Sitta talks about this. But yeah the individual doesn't participate in apartheid, of course, and its only the government being mean. (Last sentence is sarcasm).
this is a genuine question, not a retort: i know the original post is not yours, but i would genuinely like to hear your thoughts on this. if a call out is not a good medium for "dealing with genuinely dangerous people" (i dislike the use of words here but ill concede on it in the name of good faith), what would be our other options when it comes to protecting people from harm in the online space? i would agree, the call out format is persecutorial and often reaches wider spheres than originally intended to, but i think comparing it to the.. judicial prison system is kind of a baby mentality, isnt it? individual tumblr users dont have institutionalized judicial power. the loss of power caused by tumblr call outs (in most cases) is just a loss of online influence. what would be the option for protecting people from harm if not removing influence from "genuinely dangerous people"?
its baby mentality to think you need online vigilantes and mobs of any sort to protect people, because it doesnt work. it only further isolates weird people who are already outcasts and lacking in communities, and gets thousands of random people to stalk a strange, lonely, and suicidal person while urging them to kill themselves or costing them jobs and places to live and oppurtunities for survival, you think this shit is "baby mentality" because youve never been a victim of facism.
i know from experience: predators are almost always charismatic and or integrated into community, theyre usually good at maintaining appearance and avoid being a target, they dont lose any significant social popularity or platform when there is a cancel campaign against them. they dont lose access to society, mobs only hurt the isolated minorities.
you can protect people by arming them with knowledge on how to navigate interactions and relationships, and being there for your friends when they need support or community. you can protect people by ceasing to believe that large scale networks of police or vigilante behavior do anything but benifit predators / facism.
go pick up & read a book about prison abolition, i dont have well put together answers for you, im just a weird mentally ill tranny who sees what happens to people on the fringes of society.
Your callouts don't fucking work. We don't cower at your impotent google docs anymore. We love each other too much now. We are everything you say we are and we are very proud of ourselves.
just noticed that the tumblr report function has removed the option to report someone who is not yourself being harrassed, while having added the option to report someone for ban evasion. surely, this change has no ties to the mass harrassment campaigns against transfeminine users on this site that said users and their supporters would like to report, and which have led to transfem users getting mass reported themselves to the point of fraudulent bans /s
