Why California should Cheer for Chael
Lets start with Chael Sonnen being a huge underdog going into his title fight at UFC 159. California's history is rich with underdogs. Every nation that has conquered and claimed California has at one point been an underdog, The Mexicans, the Spaniards, and the Americans. All great people, all great underdogs.
If you're thinking about money right now, get this, as an employee of UFC Tonight, Chael generates money for California. UFC Tonight is filmed in Los Angeles and what Chael earns, California gets a piece. And a great man once said, " If you're good at something, never do it for free."  Talk is cheap, unless you're Chael Sonnen. So his services as an mma analyst must go for a high price. And that's good for California.
And lastly, UFC 117 was only 3 years ago. When Chael gave the mma world a show they've never seen before. When Chael conquered an unstoppable  champion for 4 and 1/2 rounds. That historic match took place in California. And now, Chael has again picked a fight with the toughest guy in the division. Another unstoppable champion. And likely his last shot at claiming a world championship. If you weren't cheering for Chael before, consider it now, California.

UFC 157 Everybody Wins
In a much more realistic way, Ronda Rousey was the winner. She had all the pressure and expectations. And most important,  she had an opponent who would not be afraid or intimidated. She survived a spine stretching neck crank. Only to remind the world that she is the face of women's mma, the super star who beats everybody by arm bar in the first round. Looking at the bigger picture, this was also a big win for Liz Carmouche. I'll admit, even though I rooted for the marine, I was counting the seconds in my head. I didn't expect this match to go long at all. Some suggested Liz winning would hurt women's mma. Instead she still had her real life Rocky Balboa moment. Now, instead of wondering when someone will beat Ronda Rousey, we might be asking when is someone going to come as close as Liz did. Her fearless performance helped make sports history. Women's mma couldn't have been represented better than it was by the two newest octagon warriors.
