Someone who’s my friend: actually verbally says we are friends or tell me they enjoy being with me
Me: this is literally the best moment of my life and I will cherish this in secret forever

confusing being bisexual with compulsory heterosexuality
so while i’ve been looking at signs of comphet, i figured i should compile a list of symptoms that i’ve experienced as someone who once thought she was bi and is actually a lesbian. these are taken from posts about comphet that i related to enough to write down and things from my own experience.
this post is centered around bi women who might actually be lesbians, but if anyone regardless of questioning orientation finds this helpful then that’s wonderful!
if any of these resonate with you, you might be experiencing compulsory heterosexuality:
- imagining relationships with men to be automatically unfulfilling
- only being attracted to men that are unattainable (celebrities, fictional characters, selfies on the internet)
- being attracted to particularly feminine men/gnc men
- thinking every woman is out of her boyfriend’s league
- being scared of commitment, but only with men
- preferring a girlfriend over a boyfriend
- having a very specific type when it comes to men but having no real type type when it comes to girls
- wishing boyfriends would be more like a female best friend
- crushes and attraction to men feels abstract and distant
- you want to be defined by your love for women
- not understanding your friends’ attraction to men. maybe all the cute guys they talk to you think are boring, or you can’t relate to their stories about liking men.
- not really caring about marriage until realizing your attraction to women, now being married is something that you want
- you’re mostly attracted to queer/mlm men
- you don’t like real men. but you do like girls, real girls. bisexual girls are attracted to men in reality, not just in some abstract fantasy.
- liking getting attention from men and being validated in your attractiveness, but the moment it goes from attention to actually doing something (knowing their attention is on you to flirting or flirting to asking out) you don’t want it anymore
- constantly aware of how attractive you look around men
- having very high standards for men
- constantly testing your attraction to men—picking a man you see and forcing yourself to be attracted to them
- your attraction to men feels like an afterthought in your sexuality
- realizing you relate to too many symptoms of comphet and realizing you only like girls but still being scared to call yourself a lesbian (it’s alright! we’re all unlearning it together. being a lesbian is a beautiful and freeing thing.)

I hope young lesbians know that a lot of (if not most) lesbian "stereotypes" aren't bad things!!! It's okay to not shave or wear makeup, it's okay be angry and protest the way you're treated, it's okay to be uncomfortable around men, it's okay to fall in love too easily and move in too fast. Those things aren't part of all lesbians' lives and experiences, but they're not bad and they're not things you have to not do to "avoid stereotypes". If those "stereotypes" are a part of your life, it's okay to embrace them!!
💗this post includes trans women💗

I keep using my girlfriend with unusual work hours to get out of coworker interactions and happy hours and hanging out.
But now the company holiday party is upon us.
And I’ve been lying about the girlfriend.
I suddenly really empathise with the characters in Hallmark Christmas movies.
