All I want to say is, when a mainstream author wants to write a male character who's attracted to women, they're not shy about it, it doesn't get buried under layers and layers of subtext, it's right out there in the open and you don't have to go looking for it. And even a long time before I figured out what I was I always remember feeling disappointed and betrayed when some male character I felt some connection to would inevitably wind up being horny or romantically effusive over some female character, and it took me way too long to realize it was some tiny part of me going "oh well...yet another one who's Not Like Me." So on the rare occasion that it could be there and it's not...I notice.

Thinking about Crowley and Aziraphale being a couple of weird old fruitcakes, looking at all the pictures of pretty women that humans get all flustered over and not really understanding what all the fuss is about, but at least understanding each other, makes my dumb gay ass feel a little less insanely lonely.

Really gotta wonder what Pratchett was thinking, writing about a demon with "good cheekbones", who can do "weird things" with his tongue, who's secretly obsessed with the "pleasures of the world"...and then have him show absolutely no interest in women while having a clingy codependent relationship with his very-gay-coded angel friend. 🤔

Really funny when a regular old vanilla tee ee arr eff stumbles into the middle of a fandom full of people who think beings created without dicks can’t be men and being non-binary means you can’t be gay, and the latter start pointing fingers and shrieking. Here we see Crowley, even in his hour of greatest despair, still trying to convince himself that he and Aziraphale are two obviously and fundamentally different sorts of people, but the sunglasses aren't fooling anyone.

Gonna be that person but the “fair hair” thing comes from something Neil said on tumblr fairly recently about how he (and maybe Terry?) imagined the character (to justify TV!Crowley’s red hair as being “dark”), but it’s still never described in the book. The only physical description Aziraphale gets are a few mentions of his hands (plump and elegantly manicured), his coat (camel hair), his tie (undescribed), and the fact that his fashion sense is stuck in the 1950s.

The rest of this checks out though.

marshall-peregrin: honestly I think the whole thing kinda also has to do with neilman once stating that crowley’s fav velvet underground song is pale blue eyes. please don’t ask me to source this tho I don’t wanna go through his social media you’re just gonna have to take a strangers word for this. this isn’t to say that the blue eyes thing isn’t weird it’s just the one explanation i personally have.

Showmens fans won’t stop calling TV!Aziraphale’s eyes blue so I websearched “Michael Sheen eye color” in a fit of getting-to-the-bottom-of-this and like multiple celebrity fan websites refer to his eye color as “blue”, sometimes “with a hint of yellow” even right next to photos where his eyes are obviously grayish brown and just what the fuck.

I was just reminded that there’s this absurdly dedicated Aziraphale RPer who apparently has access to a large number of real life old books and such who has a tumblr linked to the domain aziraphale dot com and a twitter at @Mr_AZ_Fell and whoever’s running it is so painfully heterosexual and unfunny and milquetoast liberal that sometimes I think it’s a side project of neilman himself.
