I've been reading NightWings myths again and it's wild how there's no ending to the Darkstalker legend. Like they all talk about how evil and terrifying it was and how it was some great monster, but they all go in different directions when it comes to how it was defeated. Like nobody could even figure out how to beat something like that.

what if instead of being defeated by some hero or being tricked into destroying himself darkstalker just went underground and lives in the mountains

I'm aware they're not! Clay isn't a woman, after all. Mostly meant it in an "if" way.
WoF Queen Challenge Headcanons (Pyrrhian)
I ended up thinking about this during work so <3 Here we go
A challenger directly challenges the queen, who will then inform her council that a challenge has been issued. There is a one-day period from the challenge to the actual battle where the challenger can rescind the challenge or the queen can forfeit the throne without a fight. No other challenges may be issued during this time.
Unless stated in the initial challenge that the fight will be hand-to-hand, both the queen and the challenger may select one weapon to use and will reveal it prior to the fight.
Audience varies by tribe. Every tribe allows at least one referee, usually an old or high-ranking noble; they are there to ensure an honor code is upheld and bear witness to the challenge battle. Some tribes allow a whole council of nobles, and SkyWings may hold queen challenges publicly in the arena.
Every tribe forbids the express use of animus magic during a fight, and if enchantments are suspected of being cast then the referee will intervene and end the challenge before the end. Certain tribes (NightWings, SandWings, and SeaWings, possibly IceWings) will allow enchanted weapons as long as the enchantments on the weapon are proclaimed before the battle (and verified by an enchanted object that can discern truth). SkyWings strictly forbid animus magic in all challenges.
Forfeiture rules during the challenge battle vary between tribes. SeaWings and IceWings state that if one party forfeits during the battle, then this should be recognized and this will end the battle, no death required. SkyWings generally allow forfeiture, but it does not guarantee mercy from the other dragoness--even after surrendering in the fight, the opposing dragon still holds it in their power to kill without interference from a referee. SandWing rules often vary between generations but are established prior to battle.
If a losing party should survive, then they are still forbidden from ever challenging the throne again, and may be exiled from the royal family as if they have died.
SeaWings may hold their battles on land or underwater. This decision is up to the queen.
RainWing challengers do not fight to the death. As shown in canon, they often engage in tests of skill to determine the winner. Combat may be one of these skills but it is never to the death.
MudWing sisters RARELY fight for the throne, because of the closeness of the sibling groups. Usually the Bigwings of the first clutch of any sister in the royal group is slated to become queen after the retirement or death of the old queen. In event this dragon dies or is unfit for queendom, it goes to the Bigwings of the second clutch in the group or the second-oldest if there is only one clutch (and so on). MudWing sisters usually rule as a group, anyway.

I should draw characters with expressions that don鈥檛 fit with the one dimensional image the fandom sees them as more often they deserve it
Sunny can be serious, Turtle can be angry, Kinkajou can be sad, they have a full range of emotions

Hey, since you mentioned you like him... Hawthorn, for the character ask? :>
favorite thing about them
Everything. I love Hawthorn. I find hawthorn an extremely fascinating and tragic character compared to the rest of arc 3's cast despite him only being really in one-two books for only a couple of chapters, his entire story is so interesting to me and so upsetting too. Hawthorn's entire tale of essentially being locked into the heart of a jungle in deep isolation left with no other company than a mind-controlling plant that essentially turned him into nothing but a husk of his former self after years of isolation is frankly horrific and nobody talks about it because he just instantly dies. when in reality, it is fucking disturbing. Hawthorn was left to dwell into deep madness.
The fandom really shows how little they care about him when he doesn't even have an offical wiki fandom reference yet characters who are mentioned fucking once do /j /lh
least favorite thing about them
It is less of what I dislike about Hawthorn himself and more-so the writing of him; I hate how little their is. I wish we got more of Hawthorn and hope we get a winglet about his time in the heart of the jungle and how the Breath of evil manipulated him and drove him to madness.
favorite line
"Those are mysteries I solved with science! Experimentation! Research! Investigation! All the careful procedures I wish I'd had time for back then. It's amazing what you can discover when you're alone for fifty years with nothing else to do."
dr. jekyll type beat
brOTP
whoever the leaf queen was at the time when Hawthorn was talking to her I geniunely forgor her name. but yeah they are friends. hawthorn is aroace because I said so 馃槉馃槉馃槉馃槉馃槏馃槏馃挄/hj
OTP
I don't really have any for him. Anything with him just seems a bit weird or forced.
nOTP
Hawthorn x Othermind. guys. why. geniunely. why.
random headcanon
"He's been so useful. I think I'll keep him forever, or at least, until his bones rot and I can't move him anymore."
That line from the Othermind heavily implies to me that Hawthorn, during the modern day and meeting with Cricket and the others wasn't actually him. I headcanon that Hawthorn had been driven to nothing but a husk, no remnants of the dragon he once was other than outside-scales; Essentially a Leafwing-skin for the Othermind to wear.
unpopular opinion
hawthorn is a better villain then wasp don't @ me i'm sorry he is he has more depth and i feel bad for him wasp is literally just racist and has as many dimensions as cardboard
song i associate with them
I have a hawthorn playlist /SRS
favorite picture of them
this art :3

I don't know if this has been answered before but what is the music for each tribe??
for skywings, I can imagine them playing something like the cello or harp. of course, this is an entirely different culture apart from humans, so the "dragon equivalent" of those instruments. lots of harmonious, smooth sounds that reverberate off the walls of mountains.
mudwings use more percussion instruments, like maracas, drums, and xylophones. they also have the equivalent of a double bass, however it lays on the ground like a sitar rather than standing up. when played, the sounds go into the ground in deep vibrations that only dragons can hear, but other creatures can feel.
sandwings have the most variety (they do live in the middle of the continent). they have an array of percussion instruments like the xylophone, marimba, drum, and maracas. the equivalent of the guitar and banjo are also present in some areas. they love playing instruments, so bands are extremely common in most towns/communities.
icewings typically play things like violins, cellos, harps, and use acapella. for events within the higher circles, they would* have high ranking bands play. they tend to avoid things with bass, which comes from a long history of unfortunate avalanches from playing in mountain ranges.
*this is now subject to change due to recent events, and the assumed distribution of class power
rainwings love playing oversized string instruments that they've rightfully named "thwangers". They are made from fallen tree branches and string, and they make a guttural "thung" noise when played. This paired with the rainwings' singsong voices and drum rhythms make for an oddly eerie sound.
nightwings (pre volcano) took to playing very longing, and often sad music with their favorite instrument, the erhu. Nightwings loved to be moved by the emotional instruments like the cello, sitar, and double bass as well.
seawings did not really play instruments until the summer palace was built. until then, they "sang" using aquatic. talented aquatic singers could speak without flashing too harshly (takes lots of muscle concentration), and would tell poems or stories in groups of 2 or more. On land, they play light, stringed instruments like the ukelele, guitar, and even sometimes the didgeridoo.
