once told a friend a couple of dutch sentences i learnt via duolingo and they told me i sounded german lol now i wonder have you ever heard different accents like spanish dutch? is it as prominent as english?
oh yeah i have heard a ton of variants, spanish/arabic/turkish/polish/german/russian etc really. imo accents are prominent in almost the same way as they are in english. its the cadance and sounds of your mother tongue that translate over and thats the same for whatever language you are attempting.

oh, it was a rough one cause thats a european story.
one episode before that was the one that had me bawling tho. a black man got wrongfully executed in the current timeline for a crime that a white guy committed and a white cop planted false evidence for.

That reminds me of the Oppenheimer movie where cilian murphy had to speak dutch but as a dutchie i could barely understand it, it sounded more like german and the sentences he was saying actually didn't make sense at all
i heard that bit! that honestly sounded dutcher than whatever this was.
its just interesting to me, german and dutch are quite similar but the accents it gives to english arent that close. it highlights the differences in the languages more.
scandi's speaking english sometimes throw me off cause they get closer to a dutch accent and makes me check the speakers background.

NVM, the guy turns out to be a nazi guard, so either it was deliberatly a german accent or my hunch that its just a bad accent is right (the 'dutch' woman still doesnt sound dutch so unless she turns out german too its the latter.)
back on the cold case binge watch.
im on an episode that supposedly has freshly immigrated 'dutch' people and these are the least dutch sounding accents i have ever heard. its like they got a bunch of german tapes as reference point.
