What boggles my mind is some americans' insistence that their constitution can't be changed. You talk about banning guns, and they're like "You can't ban guns! It's in the constitution!" as if it being in the constitution means it's inalienable or something. Prohibition was in the constitution as well, and was repealed. The right to bear arms was an amendment to the constitution itself, so by its very nature the second amendment existing means that the constitution can be changed. Boggles my mind.
I understand the right to bear arms was in there from the start, but yeah, time and time again it has been proven the constitution can be changed, from prohibition to its repeal, women’s right to vote, end of slavery, and so on.
What is it with American ultraconservatives and trying to tie the constitution with the bible? Basically making it seem like it was a heavenly mandate and that the founding fathers were apostles, rather than a set of rules written by flawed men.
When I first played Bioshock Infinite all those years ago, I thought that was an exaggeration, but the more I see what’s going on inside those circles, the more I realize some people genuinely believe that.
