Headcanon: When Carmilla gets really frustrated and/or angry her fangs end up showing which Laura picks up on and sometimes uses whenever they argue and Carmilla is being stubborn about letting her know how she’s feeling. I can just imagine them getting into a small quarrel one day over something insignificant and it’s just like:
Laura: You’re angry.
Carmilla: I’m not angry!
Laura: Your fangs are showing.
Carmilla: *barely opens her mouth to speak*…I’m not angry.
I recently re-watched Season One and just wanted to highlight a moment that I always loved which was Laura deciding to run behind Carmilla.
What I love so much about this little detail is that Laura could’ve easily ran out the door and tried to get help and/or hid somewhere. In fact, at the very beginning of this scene when she realizes that both Carmilla and Will are in her room she tries to leave. However, once Carmilla punches Will and she’s free, she instead decides to run behind Carmilla to stay safe. Not even knowing if she would technically be safe with her but she takes that risk anyway.
Also, one of my favorite things in this scene is how Carmilla reacts to this too. When Laura runs behind her she seems quite surprised by this action (probably because Laura had spent the last two weeks interrogating her because she didn’t trust her). But afterwards she then immediately turns to Will and gives him this look which I think they both knew was conveying that there was no way he would be able to lay one finger on Laura without going through her first. In that moment Carmilla became Laura’s protector.
I just always loved that detail because I think it marks a defining moment in Laura and Carmilla’s relationship where they both were still a bit wary of the other but were willing to finally trust the other. With Laura feeling safe enough to hide behind Carmilla to protect her and for Carmilla to be willing to sacrifice getting in trouble with her mother in order to protect this person.
