As someone who works in print journalism, I have to deal with this idea
“The internet is killing print media”
The internet isn’t what made you a society of hall monitors with bad taste, you’re thinking of Protestantism.

Astrology's weird bc if you've only ever had fun with it and come across someone w seething hatred for it you're understandably like, what the fuck is this person's problem? But also if you've seen someone take it Too Far, any mention of it understandably becomes a red flag
Like imagine if you really liked Pokemon and you're like, "I really don't see why people would hate this unless they're just assholes for no reason?" Like it's a totally normal opinion opinion to have. But also imagine if you took a quiz and learned you were a Bug type and people stopped talking to you because they were like "It's in your nature to be emotionally manipulative." It would also be totally normal to be like "Oh okay fuck Pokemon fans then."
Now you may be like, "But the latter situation doesn't happen!" and that tells me you are fortunate because you have not dealt with the worst that the west coast of America has to offer

Cannot also forget that every modern socialist state that has ever even tried to exist has had to deal with a hyperviolent sweatshop built on countless genocides worth of stolen land whose military renders the highest gdp in the world into the twelfth worst debt-to-gdp ratio and is entirely committed to eradicating socialism and anti-colonialism and which also imprisons more people than have lived in most countries in history. Like everything that actually works and is benevolent in current government is socialistic and everything predatory and malevolent is market-based, why is there even a debate? Socialism would work without ever resorting to any kind of desperate necessity if the most vampiric oligarchy in history poorly pretending to be a democracy did not insist in making collective human well-being a fucking competition. Roman history is a huge meme in the West right now but Anglo historiography has suffered so terribly from being produced alongside the most geopolitically consequential monarchy that has ever existed and is somehow still going. The Roman Republic failed because the wealth generated by Roman imperialism (ransacking a foreign country then making it a factory) made the Conflict of the Orders obsolete, so the Senate became a competition to become the first Caesar.
i think people who are really obsessed with the question of whether the ends justify the means are being unserious. as with many things, the answer depends on the circumstances and also morality is determined by society so today's unjustifiable means are tomorrows only justifiable response

What do you MEAN Galles isn’t related to Gallia they both refer to Celts
Also shout-out to the Swedes for just borrowing the French "adieu" into their vocabulary and just spelling it "adjö"

Remember that the ostensible raison d’etre of Israel is that the Jewish people suffered a genocide. The hypocrisy of denying the Palestinians a state after inflicting a genocide upon them shows that the colonial foundation of the Zionist state does not, in fact, have anything to do with Judaism, much less synonymity with it.
Tumblr media
Behind the scenes: U.S. and Israeli officials said the Biden administration is trying to prevent the Palestinians from getting the nine votes so the U.S. won't have to veto the resolution. A U.S. veto of such a resolution, especially amid the war in Gaza, would bring sharp criticism for Biden internationally and inside his own party, including with some of his supporters.
Over the last two weeks, the Biden administration has been pressing Abbas and his advisers to back off from their request, U.S., Israeli and Palestinian officials say. Secretary of State Antony Blinken raised the issue directly in a phone call with Abbas, and other U.S. officials raised it with their Palestinian counterparts almost every day in the last two weeks, Palestinian and U.S. officials say. The Biden administration made clear to the Palestinians that current U.S. law compels the administration to veto such a resolution or defund the UN, a U.S. official said. According to the officials, Abbas rejected the U.S. pressure and his aides told the Biden administration they are moving forward with the vote. A senior Palestinian official said the Biden administration asked whether Abbas would suspend the bid if he is invited to meet with Biden at the White House. The Palestinian official said Abbas rejected this trade-off and said he agreed to such a U.S. proposal a year ago but never got an invitation. U.S. officials admitted they failed in convincing the Palestinians to suspend their UN bid.

I thought Chiodos was a cool name for a band because I assumed it was faux Greek like X-ὁδός for “cross-road” and they were an “I didn’t know they were Christian” band like Underoath or We Came As Romans but no actually they’re named for the Chiodo brothers who made Killer Klowns from Outer Space and I’m just pretentious

Bro I need to get blasted and listen to this playlist this fuckin rules
@el-smacko tagged me in a tag game! i haven't done one of these in forever!
fun tag game: shuffle your ‘on repeat’ playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag 10 people.
i cheated slightly, mostly because spotify is a joke when it comes to diversifying playlists and if i didn't, half of this would've been Rush lmao.
tagging 10 whole ass people sounds intimidating af since i'm a loser and don't talk to people enough, but here's a few: @deadtothebones , @thatsveryood , @ayldee , @andruil , @nyxnoxxx

ngl I keep forgetting that Hobby Lobby is a real store that people go to. That people actually think of it as a craft store and not as a crazy Christian mass artifact smuggler. I google "Hobby Lobby" and get a page full of results that make me go "wtf is this craft supplies and operating hours shit, I thought we all knew this place for smuggling looted cuneiform tablets out of Iraq"

Yes thank you both bless 🙏
@thatlittleegyptologist and @somecunttookmyurl do y’all know why the Egyptian alef had to be an unrendered special character instead of a, ’, or god forbid apparently א? It’s an alef. Even if we don’t render the hieroglyphs why do we still not transliterate it in a way that can more easily be read? If we’re going to transliterate in Roman letters and if, to an extent, Semitic languages existed on a continuum with Egyptian, why not use a or, as with Phoenician and Ugaritic, use א?
