not submission. I really hate the "My OC, my rules" thing. Cause like, no? Just because they are your oc doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with them. If you want to make your oc suffer and not like them get help, you deserve to lose rights over them. Especially if you only do that stuff to purposely trigger people. Once you do that, your oc no longer belongs to you. they belong to the public who will take better care of them instead
Making a comment to get this to post.

did you hear about that batshit Susan Meachen fake suicide?
.......the what.
No fucking way. I remember when that happened. Good god, there were gofundmes and everything. People worked on her "final" book for free, so it could be published, not to mention the pitty-buy sales drives so her kids would have "something to live off of." Like people grieved. What an awful thing to do. I hope she gets the proper help she needs to realize why what she did was terrible.
And yet it seems like people are buying her stuff expecting it to be unhinged and wild, and yet if I recall, her work was just kind of... fine. Things I never bothered to leave reviews on because I didn't want to be mean.
Good Grief.

Quote tweet: i really hope that y’all know that your favorite authors are reading these threads and seeing something they did once and thinking that maybe they should just never write again
Quoted tweet: can we talk about arbitrary things in fics that make you not want to read them or that will make you instantly dnf (petty things ONLY please i do not want intense fic discourse i want laughs)]
Yeah, so this? This is unsustainable.
Note that the quoted tweet isn't about leaving comments on fics. It's not telling people to call out specific fics. It's not even about fic stuff that is "bad". It's literally just a quote tweet game about fic stuff that one personally dislikes.
And the person quote tweeting it is shaming people for expressing dislike in their own spaces. What the person quote tweeting is calling for is completely unsustainable. It's not possible to never express a negative opinion anywhere on the internet lest a writer see it, get their fee fees hurt, and quit writing forever!
If you are a writer, and you stumble across someone expressing a dislike of something you do in your own writing and that's not something you can handle? It's your responsibility to hit that back button and/or block/mute them. People are allowed, in their own spaces, to dislike things. It's your responsibility to curate your own space so you don't see more of that than you can handle.

Alright. I already made a post earlier about how, as a fic author, you can't expect readers to never express negativity or dislike about the things you write anywhere ever. This is a post about what you can do as an author in this situation, if you so choose.
Just so it's clear, I'm NOT talking about readers leaving negative or critical reviews on a fic. This is about readers talking, in general terms, about fic tropes they personally dislike in a public venue where an author who writes those tropes MIGHT stumble across it.
First, if you're sensitive, don't go through the quote-tweets on a quote-tweet game about people expressing dislike of fic tropes. I know social media platforms can make it hard to curate your spaces perfectly, but you've gotta take some responsibility for hitting that back button.
Second, keep in mind the difference between a personal preference and an objective criticism. And then keep in mind that someone can frame something as an objective criticism and be wrong about it. Actually, just in general, remind yourself that people are gonna have disagreements about things, and that's okay.
Third, if you want to be less sensitive, send a fic off to an experienced beta-reader. (Not your bestie.) I'm recommending that here specifically because it'll give you the chance to experience someone being critical about what you wrote (where you hear about it, even) but in a controlled setting. It's just ONE person, you can engage with their comments one your own terms, and it can help toughen you to the reality that, yes, there will be people who dislike what you write.
Fourth, beta-read someone else's fic. As authors, we put a lot of ourselves in our writing, and it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that criticism of our work is criticism of us. But it's not, and being on the other end of things can help you get into the mindset of, "Oh, people are looking at my work as a thing separate and isolated from my person."
Fifth, write a passion fic for a rare pair or obscure fandom where you'll get little to no engagement. Because, look, we all like praise, but if you can ground yourself in a place where you're writing first and foremost for yourself, you'll be less shaken by coming across someone expressing dislike for a trope you write.

Can we called all of those shitty takes of "women in general into m/m is badwrong" incel energy because that what it is. They both have misogyny takes over petty bullshit and dehumanize women in general. This one being against women and AFAB liking m/m ones is just the woke and activism edition incel energy. How terminally online can you get, where you form at the mouth of the thought of someone with a vag looking at male fictional characters being together and shipping them or, how dare they, get off to anime boys fucking each other?!
And people on internet especially in fandom spaces serious deadass think those things are what queer men face as oppression, not that queer men (and other queers) face being the target of harassment, attacks, and murder. But apparently those things aren't as important, they are just protecting those poor gay men from icky evil women that have m/m ships, they aren't using that as a shied to be misogynist guys!!

i know ive said this before but everything automattic has been doing for the past year-ish.... it's fucking surreal seeing this website run by competent management
and honestly i think ppl need to stop outrage posting about "how DARE tumblr demand money from us" or "tumblr devs are stupid if they don't realize we're all using ad blockers" is like. they do know that. that isn't the point
the point is that these are ways of monetizing the website that don't involve selling your data. i PROMISE it is better this way than for them to go down the facebook route and treat us like products they can sell to third parties
if you disagree with various tumblr policies that's fine! you don't have to pay for tumblr blaze, or tip fellow users, or pay for ad-free. but do notice that all three of those monetization options treat us like clients, and in one case, allow us to give money to other tumblr users! something many of us already do!

i think staff should let us boost other people's posts with that tumblr blaze thing. like if i see a mutuals post i really like i should be able to ensure that 2,500 other people get to see it too & also i could boost the viewership of Horrible Memes, allowing me to do the tumblr equivalent of dropping a cursed image in the groupchat without comment
this would absolutely make the site much worse overall but i think it would be worth it
