It would have been easy to fake an explanation. She could have said something like, ‘You’re a friend. I love you’ or ‘I tell the birds this.’ But she’s been balancing on an old, beaten up fence of doubt and want for too long. It’s tedious.
What the hell, she thought. Cat’s out of the bag.
“I’ve been feelin’ this way for a while. Tried to make it stop ‘cause it seemed that you didn’t want to be anythin’ more than friends. Which isn’t... isn’t bad, at all, because you’re one of the closest friends I’ve got. But, um... I love you.”
“ i love you. “ ( from Maybelle )
[Prompt]
He had heard her wrong. Had to have. Or she wasn’t talking to him. Must be talking to Lucky, or Sweet Pea, or Cherry Bomb. Or any one of her chickens. But not Boyd. That didn’t make sense.
Boyd managed to voice his confusion with an articulate: “Hu- what?”

“I never laid a hand on anybody that didn’t deserve it.”
A sideways look is thrown Asher’s way. It’s the look of a quiet plea but after a minute of thinking, she said, “Please don’t start fightin’ in the house. I don’t like it.”

“I know who you are. What do you need?”
Oh, that’s weird.
“I wasn’t needin’ a thing but I’m warnin’ everyone that comes by. Sweet Pea’s on the loose, and he isn’t in a good mood.” A moment of awkward silence. “We ain’t met, right?”

Boyd lost interest in you a long time ago, he's just been humoring you all this time because he doesn't want to be rude
“That’s… Well, that’s all fine, isn’t it? He can do that... if there was ever a ‘thing’ to begin with.
“I’m a big girl. I’m won’t be cryin’ about it, if that’s what you’re wantin’.”

Starters - The Mummy
One Nuka-Cherry wasn’t enough. She needs another, but with a little more whiskey. Is it smart? Oh Lord, no, but she doesn’t care. It takes the edge off and makes her feel a little better about… everything.
“Yes, yes, yes. Another Nuka-Cherry.”

“I live here.” It’s a matter-of-fact statement, but there’s a hint of confusion in it. “Is there a problem?”

“Don’t you be puttin’ words in my mouth, Gage.” The briefest of glances are given, but then she’s back to sweeping the porch. “I’m just tryin’ to work. That’s it.”

❝ Stupid superstitious bastard. ❞
Starters - The Mummy
Oh, Lord, hearing those words made her cringe. Benjamin had his quirks - didn’t they all? - and for all of the irritable days he might have, he doesn’t deserve this kind of slander. “You… Um, do you know that you’re talkin’ about the man in charge?”

❝ Jealous? You kiddin’ me? Did you see that guy’s face? ❞
Starters - The Mummy
Maybelle doesn’t know what he’s gotten into, but she hates it. This isn’t the Gage she knows. This is… downright unpleasant.
“Gage! What’s your problem?” Whatever his answer may be, her response is the same. She stood up. “You better sort yourself out, ‘cause I’m not goin’ to sit and hear this.”

❝ Can two people really be meant to be? ❞
Starters - Grey’s Anatomy
It’s an innocent question. It shouldn’t upset her, but it does. Maybelle chalks it up to the stress -- Dale and moving, the… confusion she’s been experiencing -- and a lack of sleep. She doesn’t want to snap.
But she can’t help but say, “You don’t think they’ll destroy each other?”
