Mono, just wanna start off that your theories are very cool and I enjoy reading what you write! You write very well. ^w^
The LOS trilogy seems to have many points of "Plot Devices that enforce the Gameplay Mechanics" lol, and to me, that includes his Rat Plague. His Plague comes from fixed points of Shadow that forces you to get through the stealth sections as a Plague. If Dracul gets down to one rat he's in control of, he can go right back to the Shadow portal and get 8 more.
There are two separate Rat 3D models in LoS2: Regular Rats that crawl around in various map areas--and Dracul's Rat Plague. Dracul's rats are much larger, glowing red eyes, all sharp teeth, and patches of "plagued" mange sprinkled amongst his dark fur.
Tumblr media
His rat model is significantly different than the regular ones, nor does he ever interact with the regular rat 3D models. My guess is that it's possible the rats Dracul possesses are born from the shadow--and Dracul's power--which is why possessing them doesn't kill them as it does when Dracul similarly possesses a Bioquimek Scientist or Golgoth Guard. Dracul's power/blood is so toxic and corrupt that it will kill anything it touches that isn't of his own making. I like hearing your theories, and I agree with many of them. I feel like most of the reason Dracul is forced to do the gameplay mechanics is because of him agreeing to the pact with Trevorcard that cuts off his power from him and convinces Satan that he's "dead". The result of Dracul's Crissaegrim-induced nap was that the Castle acquired those powers, as seen in the gameplay. Heck, in the Revelations DLC, you have to play as Trevorcard and also fight the Castle to get Dracul's Void and Chaos relics into their rightful places so Dracul can recover them. The Castle used many things against its master--Stone golem having the Void projectile crystal. Medusa having the Chaos Bomb crystal. Carmilla having Mist form.
The Castle is shown to be toxic and possessive, doing its best to stop Dracul from leaving it and being with his family, from summoning enemies to fight Dracul and summoning Carmilla to try to seduce him. The Castle's true form in my own theory is the bloody, mutated demonic Inner Dracula--a result of the symbiotic bonding with a newly turned Gabriel--and how Dracul gets his Demonic Wings back. Fighting and then defeating Inner Dracula is Gabriel the protective and caring father shining through, conquering his own darkness to save young Trevor.
Tumblr media
After the events of the game, it's also possible that Dracul could get back to his full power like he was in the battle circa 1547 and/or trailer, such as greater/easier control of Dragon transformation (consuming blood is easier than fighting stronger enemies or minibosses to get Scales), and such as regenerating Void and Chaos power pools. It's probably a beneficial thing if Dracul is more powerful, as his personal power pool increasing could decrease the Castle's power/hold/influence over him. The more power Dracul controls means the less power the Castle controls to try to stop Dracul from leaving it/being evil.
I also agree that Dracula and the Castle are so symbiotically bonded that the Castle cannot cease to exist so long as Dracul is still alive. It will always be there in the metaphysical, in Dracul's mind, but Dracul will always be stronger than it and his own darkness... with the help of his family.
Yes, the Castle doesn't stop sending enemies to fight him in the game, even after Inner Dracula's defeat, but like you said, it's gameplay. An action-oriented game without enemies to fight is kind of like taking the meat out of a sandwich. That's why New Game modes exist.
I totally agree that many of Dracul's forms are very clearly Demonic Versions of Mythical Things, his Dragon included. His Dragon form is unique compared to any other Dragon-like entity like the Dracolich, as you said. Me and my friends like to say that Dracul's more demonic-influenced forms like his dragon have "skrunkly snoots" lol. I personally find the demonic influences to Dracula's forms charming and unique.
Anyhow, done rambling for now! I mostly just thought the rat theory and differences between those 3D models might help ease your mind.
Ok, kinda back on my theory. Quick warning for Animal Death and Blood.
So in LoS2, Gabriel has three (technically four if you want to count the decrepit form) new forms. Mist, Rats, and, what his title is under, a Dragon.
Now, there are some inconsistencies as far as how Gabriel transforms. The mist is with his blood, but that's not the form with these inconsistencies. The Rat form is. Now, I have read sources that claim that Gabriel turns into the plague of rats. However, I believe more in the side that states that he takes over the rats and forces his consciousness into them. Especially when you watch it in game. You see him take over the rat in the cutscene and anytime a rat is killed, you see him hop to a different rat. You also see it when you unlock the ability and watch the sketched out animation as well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, the rat form is not what I wanted to focus on. The thing I want to focus on is that, Gabriel does not have the actual ability to shapeshift, outside of the mist form, that he uses to take over certain creatures. We also know that Gabriel's blood is incredibly toxic and that next to nothing can survive it, outside of his Actual flesh and blood son. While we don't see this with the Rats, we see it with the Golgoth Guards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let me also hit you with, there is No living Dragon in LoS! No where in the trilogy do you find a living dragon. You find bones in the Great Deku tree
Tumblr media
And you face the Draco Lich, which is the creation from the Necromancers.
Tumblr media
But those aren't Living Dragons. So where does this form come from?
Answer: Walter Bernhard.
Proof? The puzzle scene where you meet the Toymaker. Walter tricks the Toymaker into working for him and keeps him there by summoning a demon to enchant the Toymaker and take his freewill away. Now, what does this have to do with Gabriel's dragon form? Take a look at how the demon is shown via the puppets of the play
Tumblr media
See that dragon-like creature to the right? That is the demon in question. Now, where have we heard of a demon that takes over entities and takes their freewill? The Castle. In the castle sections of the game, we fight Gabriel's minions who have been taken over by the castle. Hell, we see Gabriel almost get enchanted by the castle using the image of Carmilla! There's a whole bad ending cutscenes if you do choose Carmilla!
We also know that the Castle is dependent on Gabriel for its own survival. If it has no lord, it cannot survive in the human realm. But we also know that, although the game states otherwise about its sentience, the Castle is blood bonded to Gabriel, clearly not above exploiting Gabriel at his most vulnerable moments.
Let's list down what we know.
The Castle's true form is a dragon-like creature, though it manifests as a puddle of blood, which makes me wonder if the true form of this creature takes a lot of energy to manifest in the human realm
It can control other beings, stripping them from their freewill.
It feeds from the Lord as well as the inhabitants of the castle.
Now, if we take the whole 'it takes too much energy to properly manifest in the human realm', who do we know that does have limitless energy? Who is incapable of controlling and using the dragon form at will? What do we need in order to summon the dragon form?
Gabriel has limitless energy.
Gabriel does not seem to be able to summon and use the dragon form at will. (If you look at the trailer, it shows Gabriel needing to drink before being capable of using the form)
The Dragon Talisman, which we get from either the Chupacabra store or pieces of it from various drops from enemies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This also is the reason Gabriel can force his consciousness into those he possesses. This power comes from the Castle. So if Gabriel killed the sentience of the castle, that must mean he lost this ability by severing himself from the Castle's clutches.
But we don't see that in the post game. Now, this could just be because it would've been a pain programming the dragon form, only to lose it by the end of the game, especially since you get freedom to go wherever you want post-credits. However, I like to see this as Gabriel's inability to fully let go of the Castle. In fact, it doesn't stop taking over and throwing your minions at you when you're in the castle portions. Again, this is probably just programming.
Just wanted to get my theory out there.

I have many thoughts and theories, as Dracul is my favorite vampire in general (aside from classic Castlevania Dracula). Gabriel imho doesn't operate like a normal vampire as it is, and due to the prophecy regarding the Lords of Shadow and the Prince of Darkness, Dracul has some significant differences from the rest of his kin (Lowborn or Highborn). My thoughts on this are... a mixture of what I understand as canon and some knowledge of how his 3D model works. Gauntlets: All of Dracul's gauntlets (Blood, Chaos, and Void)... are VFX. Those meshes exist on his model, but they do not have physical base 2D textures at all; game shaders and particle systems make up their form. So basically, they are more magic than a physical representation. This aligns with the canon description of his Blood/Shadow weapons, and that he draws his own blood for both his whip and his daggers. Heart: Dracul has an idle breathing animation in the game, so it's safe to assume that either through autonomic function or magic systems, his heart still beats. It's also possible that if it is through his own magic, he can control his own heartrate as well as bloodflow. Blood Control: Dracul's control over blood in general is also shown when he brings down the Siege Titan in the large battle (tutorial level) circa 1547... you know, by projectile vomiting blood all over the magic crystal that served as the Titan's "brain". I feel like his control over blood is something that more came with his vampirism than any holy magic, but that's purely headcanon. I definitely agree that his symbiotic bond with the demonic (formerly Bernhard) Castle influenced his use of blood magic, considering all of its forms either are blood or made of blood lol. Physical Activity: I honestly feel like Dracul's power is so vast (canonically superior to Satan's on account of absorbing The Forgotten One's power in the LOS DLC), that his languishing on the throne has nothing to do with physical exhaustion and more to do with mental exhaustion and him being weary of his long existence and being at a stalemate with both Satan and Zobek, as he stated to Alucard right after he defeated the Golden Paladin, Roland DeRonceval in/circa 1547. Anyhow, these are definitely just my thoughts, and you're welcome to take those or not as you like. ^w^
I'm at a stump.
So, Gabriel uses blood magic in LoS:MoF and LoS2, but if he's a vampire and has no beating heart because he's undead, how does he use his blood for his magic? Does he use the blood he absorbs? If so, how does it get so toxic?
I know he wears a gauntlet (probably made by The Toymaker) to use his blood whip and knives. But how? How did he use them before the gauntlet? Does Gabriel's heart still beat? But for the amount of blood he uses, it would need to beat quickly to catch up for the amount he uses. Does it have something to do with his holy magic?
Perhaps this is another thing the Castle has done for him. Maybe his blood isn't actually his blood, but the Entity's. I mean, it does manifest as a sentient puddle of blood.
I mean, it would explain the exhaustion he radiates, and why he rarely left the throne. His heart rate is probably faster than a human when he does move around, and his body can't keep up with it. In a modern au, Gabriel would probably have POTS.
