it's genuinely insane to me that i didn't know how material components worked in D&D until the other day reading a critique of them because every DM i've ever played with, myself included, has largely ignored them. it's such a terrible nonsense addition to the game. the article brought up some good points about improving and utilizing them but it's still so antithetical to how D&D is actually played at the vast majority of tables. i also think it would break immersion for me if i had to start creating loot tables for enemies and determining the rarity of certain material components. it would ruin playing a spellcaster

This is exactly the type of input I'm looking for!
Sorry if this didn't make a lot of sense, it's late here and I'm running on fumes. I will be revisiting this crit after I playtest! Very invaluable.
As for whether the campaign setting is based around these – yes, I'm running this as Oops! All Magical Girls! But nonetheless, I'm happy for the concrit.
Armor class! *facepalms* Honestly, I knew I was forgetting something. Unarmored defense is definitely a good idea for this class. My goal with this class, I must confess, was to make it so that you have a chance to be rolling that witch die a LOT; I want magical girls to have an uphill battle. Which is great for my specific campaign setting, but unbalanced.
I might switch evasion to another level, you're right there. I worked on this intermittently over a year so sometimes things slip.
IRT spellcasting, that's one of the earlier things I added to this homebrew, and I anticipate it will need the most revision. As for my reasoning, I wanted something similar but distinct from Warlock. I might change this to something more akin to Paladin, but I definitely am sticking with spells being specific to the subclass.
Witch die definitely needs to be more explicit on here. My goal is, again, to have a witch die be something that is both helpful in an uphill battle, but nerve wracking. The campaign setting is definitely not for beginners and is very brutal.

PMMM MAGICAL GIRL HOMEBREW - BETA V.1.0 !
Will be playtesting soon, this is not balanced at all yet, and I'm really excited to share updates with you all! Feel free to test on your own if you'd like, but bear in mind this is very very early stages of homebrewing.

When I was younger and more abled, I was so fucking on board with the fantasy genre’s subversion of traditional femininity. We weren’t just fainting maidens locked up in towers; we could do anything men could do, be as strong or as physical or as violent. I got into western martial arts and learned to fight with a rapier, fell in love with the longsword.
But since I’ve gotten too disabled to fight anymore, I… find myself coming back to that maiden in a tower. It’s that funny thing, where subverting femininity is powerful for the people who have always been forced into it… but for the people who have always been excluded, the powerful thing can be embracing it.
As I’m disabled, as I say to groups of friends, “I can’t walk that far,” as I’m in too much pain to keep partying, I find myself worrying: I’m boring, too quiet, too stationary, irrelevant. The message sent to the disabled is: You’re out of the narrative, you’re secondary, you’re a burden.
The remarkable thing about the maiden in her tower is not her immobility; it’s common for disabled people to be abandoned, set adrift, waiting at bus stops or watching out the windows, forgotten in institutions or stranded in our houses. The remarkable thing is that she’s like a beacon, turning her tower into a lighthouse; people want to come to her, she’s important, she inspires through her appearance and words and craftwork.  In medieval romances she gives gifts, write letters, sends messengers, and summons lovers; she plays chess, commissions ballads, composes music, commands knights. She is her household’s moral centre in a castle under siege. She is a castle unto herself, and the integrity of her body matters.
That can be so revolutionary to those of us stuck in our towers who fall prey to thinking: Nobody would want to visit; nobody would want to listen; nobody would want to stay.

i'm such a huge fucking fan of having and using magic requiring effort. whether mental, physical, or both. i'm so fond of magic systems that make you sweat, bleed, cry and get your hands dirty when you use them. i love it when powers are earned, not inherent, through years of study and/or exercizing them like a muscle. and i love it when a seemingly effortless display of power is terrifying because of this.

I was making a little graphic for me to privately refer to and then it turned into a poem in the format of a 2 axis graph. it turns out this format is really good for organising abstract thoughts. anyway i am not sure whether this is understandable but ! Thanks if you read it. Maybe i will explain more soon
