summarization - being co-workers (kinda) and more than friends with kuroo comes with its pros and cons
includes - mutual pining, pining at work, distractions at work, did i mention pining, msby 4 and all the shenanigans that come with them, etc.
a/n - i've been thinking about this the whole day and i need to get it out. kinda long whoops. hopefully you'll like it tho <3
It's around 5 pm when you're finally able to sit down on one of the benches by the court, your papers and notes disregarded in your bag. Propping your chin on your hand, you watch in amusement as Atsumu sets to Sakusa and the latter hits a perfect line-shot.
The blonde is undeniably talented, anyone can see it from a mile away, but in all your months of knowing him the awe you feel never seems to falter. Not to mention the outside hitter. The curly-haired objectively handsome outside hitter.
Most times, you question the higher forces when it comes to dealing with these four, but when you have time to sit and observe them it becomes very clear why they get the amount of attention they do. All of them have these amazing qualities that seem to just lure people in. And apparently a lot of people seem to share that sentiment.
Kuroo Tetsuro included.

It's around 6.30 pm when Kuroo finally steps out of the JVA's main building, the light breeze causing his bangs to sway to the right.
He immediately fishes his phone out of his coat pocket, ignoring all the other messages and immediately going to his contact list.
The whole day today he was drowning in work and didn't even have a chance to text you and tell you his proposal was approved. Sponsorships flooded in, arrangements had to be made, timings discussed, and so on and so forth.
While he awaits for the steady beeps to pass and your voice to replace them, he can't help the small smile on his face.
'Hey! Finally decided to leave?'
At the sound of your voice his smile inevitably widens and he has to bite his lip to suppress it even the tiniest bit.
'Yeah, someone has to do the extra work around here.'
'Not if you're not getting paid for it you don't.'
'You have a point. It's worth it though.'
'Is it?'
Kuroo can practically see the face you're making and the image has him completely forgetting about the cold outside.
He's so focused on the warmth spreading through him, as well as all the memories from a few hours prior, it takes him a moment to register you calling out his name.
'Kuroo? You there?'
He forces himself to take a deep breath.
'They approved it.'

'Oh my god! Tetsu! That's fucking amazing! Congratulations!'
His deep chuckle reverberates through your phone and the swarm of butterflies in your stomach increases tenfold.
'Thank you. We should celebrate, don't you think? Dinner's on me. Invite the guys and meet me at Miya's at 7.30.'
'Okay. See you soon.'
You hang up with pride radiating of off you, so much so that even Sakusa is intrigued by your sudden spirit uplifting.
'What was that about?'
Four familiar faces surround you as your arms fly up in the air, your grin rivaling Hinata's signature smile.
'Kuroo's pitch was approved!'
A series of positively shocking statements follow, but all you can focus on is the happiness cursing through your whole body.

The familiar layout of Onigiri Miya greets the five of you when you step through the front door, immediately spotting Kuroo occupying one of the bigger tables. He's laughing at something Suna is showing him on his phone and for a moment your world just stops.
His hair falls every which way, due to the amount of times he ran his hand through it probably, his tie is loosened and the first two buttons of his dress shirt are unbuttoned, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
And he's laughing. That horrible, loud, manic hyena laugh that has you nearly tripping over your own feet.
Everything about him is naturally beautiful, in ways you couldn't even begin to describe.
Not to mention his eyes. You could get lost in those forever. There's just something about the golden specs in them and the intensity in his gaze whenever it meets yours.
Like now.
When he looks up he finds you immediately, and if possible his grin widens. It's like his body has a mind of its own because before he knows it he's standing in front of you.
'Hi.'
'Hi.'
Atsumu rolls his eyes somewhere behind you, the action earning him a slap on the back of his head by his brother, but you can't be bothered by anything besides Kuroo.
'I'm so proud of you, Tetsu!'
Your arms envelop him in a flash and he prays you don't feel the speed of his heartbeat.
Like a puzzle, when his own arms wrap around your form it feels like a perfect fit that neither of you wants to break. Unfortunately, you eventually do, but make no effort to move further.
God those eyes.
'Get a room already!'
Atsumu's shout breaks you both out of your trance, flushed cheeks and sheepish smiles.
'Before we start, I have an announcement.'
All attention falls onto the tall man who doesn't seem at all fazed by it, another thing you admired about him.
'You all...'
He makes a long pause for dramatic effect, which earns him a slap on the arm from you.
'...Are looking at the new Special Chief of PR Department at JVA.'
'Wait, seriously?!'
'Mhm.'
The table errupts in cheers and claps and you, once again, feel that fulfilling surge of pride when you look at him.
'You're fucking amazing.'
You shake your head with fondness. Fondness that Kuroo senses when he looks at you.
Under the dim lights of Osamu's restaurant, you admire the sharpness of his jawline, the curve of his nose, the way his stupidly messy hair covers half of his right eye...And too caught up in him, you fail to notice his eyes unable to pull away from your lips.
He was already standing close, you two never seemed to care for personal space, but he takes a step closer for good measure. It seems to have the desired effect when your eyes snap up to meet his, the corner of his lips tugging upwards ever so slightly.
'Do you mind if I-'
His voice is barely above a whisper but you cut him off with a nod and zero second thoughts.
'Please do.'
The moment your lips meet it's officially game over.
It's just you two in the world, no customers, no pro-athletes throwing comments in the background, just him.

I know I also matched you with him for your appearance match-up, and I promise I’m not just recycling that again or saying this because you mentioned he’s your fav lol :) I treated both of these match-ups separately and tried to be unbiased, and while a few other characters did come to mind, in the end I just found that you seemed like you’d fit very well personality-wise with Kuroo as well :> I think he’d find you super cool and fun to be around, and you guys have very similar vibes to me so I think you’d work well as a couple!
Headcanons About Your Relationship:
- To start off, Kuroo wouldn’t mind your tendency to be more blunt or the times when you unintentionally get a bit loud at all! He also has a tendency to be speaking way louder than he realizes lol so I feel like the two of you are kind of a match made in heaven in that aspect lol. And as for your bluntness, he actually really admires how you don’t shy away from speaking your mind. He knows you’re not a mean person and aren't rude for no reason, so he really respects that you’re willing to put your foot down in situations where you’re upset or being treated wrongly, and he fully supports you in those instances
- I think he’d also really love going on night drives with you. He doesn’t mind which one of you is driving, he just finds it really peaceful and relaxing to drive around with you and listen to a blend of both of your favorite music. Sometimes you’ll stop and get little treats as you drive, but sometimes the two of you just drive through the city with no real goals or intentions, and he finds it so peaceful to be able to turn off his instincts to always be thinking and taking charge and leading the team and just get to relax with you for once
- And these drives are the perfect times for late-night chats between the two of you. Sometimes he’ll rant about something from practice or ask you for advice on something related to the team (and he actually takes your advice into consideration and appreciates it very much), but other times the two of you get set off by some random thought or topic and end up rambling on for hours and hours, barely even noticing the passage of time as you drive through the night and enjoy your time together
- He knows all about your weakness for iced coffee, so when he knows you have somewhere to be in the mornings (whether that’s work or school or anything else) he often likes to pick you up and drive you there himself, with an iced coffee waiting for you in the cupholder made just to your liking <3 He does tease you for the amount of sugar you like in it just like your friends, but it’s loving and lighthearted and never meant to hurt your feelings. He just can’t help teasing you sometimes, it’s how he shows his love
- He’s also super cuddly, and very good with his words especially when he knows you’re not feeling your best and need some reassurances, so he’s very good at meeting your love languages and needs in that way. He’s so not shy about PDA it’s not even funny lol, he would make out with you in front of his whole team if you allowed it/they wouldn’t all shoo him out because of it. And he does frequently give you small pecks while you two are out together, he’s always holding your hand or has an arm around your waist, and he’s constantly pulling you in close for a warm cuddle session whenever you get home from being out all day. He loves any form of physical affection, especially when he shares it with you <3
- As for his words, though he may be a bit of a tease ordinarily, Kuroo also always makes sure to give you genuine compliments as well with no teasing involved and tells you how much he loves you frequently. And when you’re having a rough day or feeling down, he’s so quick to scoop you up in his arms and reassure you as he tells you how wonderful you are and talks you through whatever the issue may be
- Kuroo’s also the kind of person who likes to look good and put together whenever he goes out, he likes giving off a good impression and he actually really appreciates the motto “look good, feel good” and tries to follow it the same way you do. He really enjoys coordinating outfits with you, too, he loves making people stare at the two of you as you walk by and he feels a rush of pride when people compliment how good the two of you look together
- And while Kuroo likes to think he’s not all that interested in TV shows and dramas in particular, and likes to tease you for getting sucked in so easily to the sometimes over-the-top plots, whenever you turn one on while you’re at his place it doesn’t take long for him to join you on the couch and be complaining at the characters’ decisions or getting emotional when a sweet scene happens <3 He gets sucked in so easily lol but he likes to pretend he doesn’t, though he always wants to chat and rant with you about your shows after the fact
- And he’s not like, a huge music guy or anything but he, like most people, also enjoys listening to music in his free time. And he knows how much you enjoy music and how often you’re listening to it throughout your day, so whenever he has to be apart from you for a while, he likes to make you a new playlist of some of his favorite songs to listen to while he’s gone :> He hopes it gives you something to listen to as you go through your day and maybe makes you feel connected to him in some way when he can't be there, and/or gives you an excuse to message him, even if it’s just to tell him how much you like a particular song of his hehe
- And idk I feel like Kuroo would DEFINITELY be a car guy, he loves watching Formula 1 with you when you both have the time and can easily talk cars/motorcycles with you for hours. Fantasizing about dream cars to each other is a common conversation topic between you two lol, and he loves seeing how into it you get and is really happy that he can share this passion with you :> (As well as volleyball of course)
- Bonus: I know I mentioned your hair in your appearance match-up so I didn’t wanna use it as a cop-out for one of the headcanons, but he seriously LOVES your hair. He loves how thick and curly it is, and even when it’s messy and it’s frustrating you, he just smiles and tells you how great he thinks it looks because he’s actually obsessed with it. If you’ll let him, he’s also more than happy to assist with any aspect of your hair care routine :>
Second Choice:
I also really considered Atsumu for your match-up before I ended up fully settling on Kuroo. Idk, I feel like he could get into a lot of the same stuff you’re into similarly to Kuroo, and he also has a lot of similar traits to you and I think you two could get along well together. I just felt like overall, you and Kuroo would be more compatible which is why I chose him, but Atsumu was definitely a pretty close 2nd.

a/n - please accept my sincerest apologies bc this is incredibly self indulgent 😭😭. i wrote this on a bad hair day and i just kept thinking about kiyoomi and his pretty hair. also both he and reader have dogs. kinda short, not my best work. again apologies
A cold wind blows through the streets, sending a part of Sakusa's coat flying behind him. The man inevitably shivers as he buries his nose deeper into the knitted scarf and balls his gloved hands into fists.
Above his head, the sky is a very soft shade of gray, with the clouds so thickly condensed into a barrier for the sunlight. Across the dog playground a loud bark can be heard, the sound feeling all too familiar to the man.
He smiles softly beneath his mask when he sees the energetic doberman, happily approaching his friend. And soon enough, the owner joins Sakusa's side as well.
'Hi!' You greet him with a smile when you take your place on the man's right, with your back leaning against the metal fence.
'About time.' Sakusa's remark earns him an eye roll and he can't help gloating a little on the inside.
'Listen I almost had a mental breakdown over my hair you should be lucky I even got here.'
With a huff you cross your arms over your chest, blowing away a stray hair that disrupted your view. To your surprise however, Sakusa turns to face you, eyes roaming over the strands formed into a very messy updo.
'I told you before, your hair looks fine. You're stressing over nothing. Again.'
'It's not nothing!' You protested. 'I just wish I could make it look prettier. Like get the curls to be defined or something so it's not just a blob.' Your reasoning was followed by another eyeroll, this time accompanied by a small pout.
Sakusa looked in the direction of the two black dogs again and stood quiet for a couple of seconds before he called his pet over. The black shepard rushed over happily, with your doberman trailing behind him.
Once they were seated before the two of you, the man crouched down and secured the leash before turning towards you.
'Let's go.'
'Where?' You questioned while mirroring Sakusa's previous actions and following him through the gate of the playground.
'Just follow me.’ Was the only thing he let be revealed before switching the topic of the conversation. 'How was your day?'

Sakusa navigates the busy streets expertly while he keeps up the conversation with you, before his steps come to a halt in front of a store. It's a pet friendly one, of course it is, because even though you're not aware of it, he plans on spending at least forty-five minutes inside.
Brows slightly raised in curiosity, you trail behind him, only to nearly head face first into his broad back when he stops.
'Gah! Warn a woman next time?'
He promptly ignores you and instead reaches out to touch the front strands that fell out of your bun.
'Hm.'
Feeling slightly exposed by his soft touch and the proximity, you do your best at avoiding direct eye contact, which he fortunately doesn't seem notice.
'I think these would work best for your hair type.'
His arm stretches out and places two bottles in the basket he picked up on the way in, before continuing.
'You use the shampoo twice, only on the roots, and the conditioner once, just the ends.'
You can only manage a small nod, feeling kind of clueless with him leading you through the store like this.
'I should've made a list...oh well...these will do.'
He shoves another load of products in the basket and at this point you've given up on trying to be of use, giving him free reign instead.

Once the two of you are in line, you instinctively reach for your wallet, assesing the items in the man's hands.
'What do you think you're doing?'
His voice is as smooth and gentle as ever, and his dark eyes fix on yours so intensely that you want to slap yourself for all the inappropriate thoughts that run through your mind.
'You're not seriously thinking of paying for all of this!'
'I brought you here, it's only fair.'
'Kiyo-'

kuroo was fast asleep on the bed, taking one of his rare afternoon naps after work. you had gotten home a little later than usual and coming back to this sight was nothing short of heavenly.
kuroo laid on the bed, shirtless, with the blanket covering his lower back and onwards. his back muscles were on full display, subtly flexing with every small movement he made as he snoozed.
he slept how he normally slept when he was alone, head buried inbetween his and your pillows. his arms securely wrapped around them, his biceps bulging at the slight pressure he used to push them against his head.
how was it fair that even asleep, kuroo was the most attractive man you had ever laid eyes on?
as if he sensed your presence, kuroos eyes slowly opened, peeking out from beneath the pillows. although you couldn’t see his smile, you saw the light of it reach his eyes, a soft glow emitting from him all the way to you as if he was trying to lure you in.
“oh hi there, sweetheart,” he rasped out, his voice still thick from sleep. “care to join me?”
and just like that, you found yourself in his warm embrace. those strong arms wrapped securely around you as he traded the pillows for the crook of your neck — happily sighing before sleep took over him once again.

saw this on pinterest earlier today and all i can imagine is a filler episode during the nationals arc
fukurodani is in their rooms and strategizing about their upcoming match tomorrow against inarizaki and akaashi is the one who made the most observations about the team with time so he keeps going on and on about what they need to be wary of, how skilled the twins are, atsumu's serves, suna's technique etc.
