After reading the last anonymous question and answer, I am a little curious about the cooking level of the characters in the game. Perhaps you would bother to make a list?

Although you say that Chain can cook by himself, can he cook at a delicious level? Or is it just a "vital sign sustaining diet," one that's all about nutrition, not taste?

I made a cooking chart of all characters. They are ranked by level of taste & visual presentation. The topic of cooking is discussed among some. Kurato got to show off his skills in the main game. In the DLC, Lioji, Chain & Roya get to cook something.

Chain used to live with his family who weren't great at cooking. He experimented with flavors, so knows what tastes good. He does prioritize nutrition above all, but occasionally adding spices won't hurt. On the other hand, he cares little about presentation. In the end, it all ends up in the stomach.

I know you're working on the DLC now but are there any little chain facts we can have that aren't in the game?

Even though the DLC is packed with details and lore about Chain, I couldn't fit in everything I thought of. Here are a few facts about him not discussed or shown in game:

He cuts/shaves his own hair. Currently, it is very long, but he is lazy to fix it. Since he doesn't care about appearances, he walks around with bed hair 24/7

He has a sun-shaped tattoo on his right thigh. It used to be an injury from work. It's hard to draw CGs showing up to the thigh area so here's a picture for reference:

Chain has flexible joints. Like he can touch his wrist with his thumb on the same arm, do the split and touch palms behind his back with the fingers pointing up.

Alcohol has no effect on him. The only moment where he acts close to tipsy/drunk is when he is really sleepy.

Whether it's freezing cold or burning hot, he wears the same attire all year. His wardrobe is mostly t-shirts and jeans.

His favorite colors are earthy.

Chain's natural haircolor is green and he never dyed it before. Lots of people have been asking me about this haha. I rather not connect all my characters with reality.

He used to go to therapy. During that time, he kept a journal.

Most of the time he cooks his own meals. He believes that eating well helps with sustaining his lifestyle.

His job pays so much that he can retire by age 30. Although, he doesn't want to stop working until he is unable to physically. Doing 'nothing' for a long time makes him restless.

Hello! I think it is my first time posting but I really wanted to convey this feelings to you. I downloaded Dark Nights a few days ago and I swear I've been obsessed with the game since then. I can not stop playing it even though I already finished all the routes and got the achievements. I honestly hold this game so dear to my heart and I'm talking so much about it to my friends. When I read the news about a DLC and saw the art I was speechless. I think I stared at that page a whole day! I love so much how everything looks and can't wait for the full experience! It's the only thing I look forward the most this year. I also hope you're doing well and not pushing yourself too much, I can only guess how much work you're putting in, but please watch over your health as well!!

Secondly, I do have some questions. Will we get in the future some art of the characters in the form of like setting it as a laptop background or even phone background? And when the beta version is out, how can we sign for it? Or how would the whole process happen?

Then again, I thank you for your efforts and this amazing game and can't WAIT to play the DLC and see what it has the offer. Seeing the new routes include my absolute favs, I'm so excited for it!

Hi andee! Thank you for giving Dark Nights a try. It makes me happy that you enjoyed all of the game. Dark Nights is my first project, so there's a lot I can improve. I take feedback from the community at heart, so I hope the DLC will be a better experience. This year, I try to pace my workload. You're right about health is the highest priority. I plan to release some wallpapers for desktop & phone later. Perhaps some CGs that might be suitable. I haven't drawn all of the cast in their own theme yet. I'll get through it at some point.

A while ago, I released public applications for editor, proofreader and beta testing positions. Unfortunately, it's no longer possible to sign up for it. However, you'll get to enjoy the game fully polished upon its release. Anyway, I appreciate your kind words and I hope to hear from you again!

Hi ! I'm new here and I have some questions if you don't mind since I'm a bit confused. I haven't played Dark Night yet but I saw on your blog a few of your redraw that you made of your characters and I was wondering: are those redraw planned to be put on the main game too are they just for the upcoming DLC ? (Just to know if it's better for me to wait until everything is updated to play to have a better experience or if I can just play now) Also, do I need to play the main game to play the DLC or is this just a different story set in the same universe with different routes ?

Long answer short: the new sprites are only for the DLC. You don't have to play the main game to enjoy the DLC! The plot is around the characters with lore expansion. Some details may be fun for returning replayers. The LIs in the main game are side characters in the DLC. If you are interested in them, I recommend playing the main game :)

I can't sleep and I'm thinking.. If you were in the Dark Nights, who would you be friends with first? Would you have influenced the plot or would you have allowed everything to go according to an earlier script?

I made a diagram of my connections with DN characters that are in school. Other characters are hard to approach so I'll likely not be friends with them. This is my perspective if I was a character in the lore. Lioji would be my first friend. He is the class president with an outgoing personality. Kurato could be next. I would always respond to those who seek my company. Miyoko tags along with Ikuya if she decides to hang out with me. Not sure if I'd interact much with Miyoko outside school. She seems like someone who likes alone time. Junoru is someone I'd talk with occasionally. We don't have much in common even though we get along. Lastly, Roya & Chain are people I'd avoid. They look like trouble magnets and I rather stick with a peaceful life.

I'm someone who likes to spend time alone, but occasional company is welcome. My role has no impact on DN's plot as I barely take the initiative. However, if I get involved- I'll do everything I can to change my fate and help people. I might be one of the first to die because I'm unlucky and trust people easily. If I manage to survive, it'll be thanks to the characters around me. Kurato or Kaichi will be my savoir :'D

Anyway, I've been thinking about something again. I've been thinking recently, what does the smell of the characters look like? What perfume do they represent?

For example, I personally think Chain probably doesn't have any special smell, he should only smells like body wash or something, he is like the kind of perfume that emits wood smell. Roya I think he's like a walking bottle of cologne lol, Junoru looks like the kind of perfume that gives off night roses, while Zeikun apparently thinks he should have a scent of nature, but he will be that sandalwood type perfume. As for Kurato, sadly, I think he would represent a cheap perfume from a hundred dollar store or a boutique.

Happy February! I had a discussion about that question a while ago. It could interesting if the characters had their own perfume line.

Chain goes for a neutral scent. Anything else could get in the way of his job. Besides, he isn't fond of any strong scent. Even his body wash smells faint. If anything, it's minty.

Cologne fits Roya perfectly. I can imagine him wearing that on daily basis. Man is trying to look and smell good. Something flowery or fresh suits Junoru. He enjoys drinking teas and tending flowers so their scent could linger around him. I agree that Zeikun could smell like sandalwood. Earty or woody scents suit him. As for Sachiro, something soft like vanilla-based scents.

Haha, dollar-store perfume is what Kurato can afford. He isn't picky in that regard.

I LOVE UR ART STYLE SM AND I LOVE UR GAME!! everything is so beautifully presented and i can't wait for the upcoming dlc X__X i love blace and jace out of all the men in DN!! i hope they're both romanceable sometime in the future. Also, their birthday is coming... I hope we get blessed new Ace twin art 'cause ik all the fans of the twins are STARVED

Thank you for the kind words! I do my best to deliver a good experience with the DLC. The twins only had a small role in the main game, but they'll appear more in Roya's storyline. Whether they're romanceable only the future knows ;)

After a verrrrry long hesitation, I still want to post this here: Love you and your work sooooo much!!! 1.All of the characters are adorable, love you guys～ But most importantly, I found myself fell in love with Ikuya><. Every time I see her, she's like *smiling at me* and I'm just like(say to my friend and shake her): Hey, you know what, I am almost going to get into a relationship with her. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT I can meet such a beautiful creature in my lifetime?! Especially when I saw her new art XD. Sorry for my strange words and please tell her not to be bothered with them TT. 2.When I am viewing the previous Q&A, I suddenly wonder would Chain kill himself if he becomes something supernatural. Will he do it himself or ask someone else?Which tool will he use? Let's say if he will do it himself. Personally, I guess he will use his gun because he seems to carry it everywhere and maybe like it best too. And I think person like him won't cut veins and just wait for blood to run out. Perhaps he would do it in a faster way. Btw can we see his work uniform like the one in main game? I miss the scarf QAQ. And I like his gas mask in the sprite rework that looks like it's glowing. 3.I saw you said Lioji is originated from Chinese. So will his name sound like Liu ji in Chinese? Ikuya was one of the first characters when I got into digital art. She is very dear to me. Some have told me that she is a comforting support. I'm glad to know that she has fans!

This question will be explored in Chain's route. I try to refrain from spoilers ; ) Here's an image of his work uniform. It's a bit similar to his old design. I removed the scarf because it's not practical. What if a strong wind slaps it in his face?

3. Liu Ji could possibly be Lioji's Chinese name. At the time of creation, I was playing around with letters and pronunciations. I hadn't done research on existing names, but now I google it, "Liu Ji" is the name of a Chinese Emperor. This is an interesting discovery.

4. Thank you for showing love to Rasumi! Her character is still shrouded in mystery, but the veil will be lifted with the DLC.

And then, I'm a Harry Potter fan, and I was in the shower one day thinking, what if the characters are at Hogwarts?I'd like to discuss this with you.👉👈

Personally, I think the heroine will be in Gryffindor and will probably enjoy a night tour of the castle. Chain felt like he was going to be put in Slytherin or Ravenclaw,he looked like one of those muggle students who excelled at Defence Against the Dark Arts. Roya feels that he will be placed in Slytherin, while his brother Junoru will enter Ravenclaw. Zeikun and Sachiro feel like they'll be in Hufflepuff, Kurato will probably be in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, and about Kaichi,I and my friend think he'll be in Slytherin.

What do you think will happen?

Would you consider drawing a doodle of the characters wearing Hogwarts uniforms in the future? In addition, I wonder what the complete tattoo on Chain's forehead looks like. Perhaps you would consider painting his hair lifted?

Recently, I started re-watching all Harry Potter movies. It's been ages since I saw them, but they're fun. It's a coincidence that you ask about the houses now I'm diving into the Harry Potter world again. The heroine will indeed be in Gryffindor. She is daring and determined. You got Chain & Roya right too. He may be closer to Slytherin because of his ambition and willingness to do dark deeds for the greater good. Junoru belongs to Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. He is loyal & kind, but also has a knack for learning. This is why his route is more on the scientific side. Zeikun & Sachiro are in Hufflepuff. Both are hard-working, yet humble. Kurato belongs to Gryffindor. Like the heroine, he challenges authority. Acts first, thinks later. Kaichi could be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin. He is resourceful by gathering information all day. He has a sense of pride when it comes to his job.

Perhaps, I'll make some doodles as extra content for the DLC! About Chain's forehead tattoo, it's rather simple. There is no part hidden behind his bangs. I try not to spoil too much, but it used to be a scar from his job.

I set the cg of Chain as the desktop background of my computer, and I recently stared at Chain whenever I returned to my desktop when writing my graduation thesis.

I noticed that Chain has an ornament similar to a choker, why did you design a design similar to a choker for Chain? Is this part functional or is it just for visual effects? I love the part where he shows the larynx, it's very attractive to me. And did he buy the little clip-on decorations in his hair? That's very cute.

And when did Chain start wearing a gas mask? Is it really because he was tired of the smell of death? And did he wear a gas mask when he slept? Why is it that when the heroine went to his house to look for him and asked him for help，his first reaction is to put on a gas mask instead of getting dressed?

I saw Chain's redraw apparently without his choker, will he lose his choker in the dlc?

Back in 2014, I designed a lot of characters wearing a choker. Besides Chain, Zeikun and Lioji wore one. For Zeikun it was part of his lore. Lioji wore it as a fashion accessory. As for Chain, it was to cover a scar. When I redrew his character, I changed this. He already has a neck tattoo with a backstory. Another reason that I removed his choker is that you can see the neck details better. I also think this part looks attractive so I draw it with care. The black clips are there to keep his bangs tidy. His hair is unkept and this is a lazy solution. He thinks about going to the barber, but keeps forgetting it.

Chain started wearing a gasmask after he shifted into this hunter job. He takes it off at home and doesn't sleep with it. When the heroine visited his place, he was about to get undressed and sleep. He doesn't care about being dressed properly in front of people— as long as not naked haha. Anyway, I posted a doodle of Chain recently. I hope that you like it! Thank you for your continous support.
