I entered two paintings into the Ori discord's October art contest (the theme was "enemies"); I had a great time with them and honestly they helped me continue to solidify my watercolor process (each one featured a slightly different way of painting)
The first is inkwash, watercolor, and colored pencil (roughly 9x12")
The second is watercolor, colored pencil, and digital color edits (roughly 6x20")
The second painting--the boss rush one--ended up being one part 'enemies' and one part tribute to the games as a whole and the sense of determination throughout. I'm not exaggerating when I say the Ori games got me through some weird times in life. They're a comforting sense of constancy.

I've been putting the science connections/easter eggs in the creator comments on webtoon canvas--but for those reading on the website, I figured I'd start mentioning them here as well!
I'll probably reblog with all the science notes every few updates, to give people time to try and guess what things are based on.
Notes under the cut!
--The Argonaut mechs are based on RNA interference! Loosely, Argonaute protein complexes specifically. I designed them after argonauts/paper nautiluses to keep with the theme.
--There's not much basis for the titles of 'vanguard codon' and 'scouting codon'; more just a desire to give unique ranks to the viral soldiers.
--We get our first glimpse of one of many entrances to the Nucleus!

I've toggled the "prevent third-party sharing" option for this blog, but I'm still distrustful of Tumblr's intentions, especially given the distinct rhetoric regarding AI models they're "partnered with".
Every day I'm tempted to just go cold-turkey and delete any social media presence that could possibly feed this growing beast--but, at the same time, I'd rather let you all see my work than hoard it to myself out of fear.
I'm not going to stop making art. Even if the world goes to hell in a handbasket and AI-generated slop becomes the norm for larger studios and corporations that have already proven they don't care about artists, I'll still be over here in my little corner, painting funny little dinosaurs.
I'll link my portfolio website in the replies, on which you can sign up in case social media becomes a complete no-go and I switch fully to email newsletters.
In the meanwhile I'll see if I can get Glaze working on my computer (it doesn't right now--lord knows why)
