River's Radio 10/11/2022: Evanescence Appreciation Day
how do you know it's October? a deep and incessant urge to listen to Evanescence
Bring Me To Life, by Evanescence.
youtube
look, okay? my music taste has seasons? and like? it starts to transition through folk and into rock over the course of like, the fall? I'm just getting back into my rock phase? As you do? For winter?
Anyways, the story behind this song is epically cool. She wrote it for her husband, but before they were even dating. He asked her a question, the first time they met, and it hit her, hard, right between the ribs, and she wrote a song about how it woke her up from the numb life she was living. Like, this is now the most romantic song to me, just with the context of it being the result of a question her husband asked her before they were married? This is what I want out of a relationship? Just? Call my name and save me from the dark? Idk. It's beautiful. And an entire vibe.
Sweet Sacrifice, by Evanescence.
youtube
This is such a good song. Her voice hits the notes perfectly. It's just so beautiful. I can't even with this song, and the message is so good. Like, it's just a more violent "Under The Surface" from Encanto. I don't know. Maybe it's the oldest child/daughter/sister in me, but some part of me wraps around this idea of saying "You know you love to hate me, don't you honey? I'm your sacrifice!" to someone. I don't know who, but this is a song you want to yell at someone. It's just cathartic.
Hello, by Evanescence.
youtube
Dark, slow, and soft. Like falling unconscious. That's my only thoughts on this. It's sad, endlessly sad, and I'm like 98% sure it's about grief and possibly insanity. So. That's so much fun. We love that.

River's Radio 10/8/2022: are we all just like... made of knots?
anime opening LETS GOOOO
unravel, by TK from 凛として時雨
youtube
never seen Tokyo Ghoul.
But this song makes me feel an emotion I've never felt perfectly replicated in any other song. It reminds me of like, Evanescence and My Chemical Romance? But like they mixed something else in, like some important ingredient I can't put my finger on. It's endlessly beautiful, a rock song I can never listen to too many times. Every time I listen to it, there's still serotonin to be gathered. It's a beautiful song, and like, I don't speak Japanese, but the lyrics that I've found translated are just. Something else.
This is a beautiful song. 10/10.

River's Radio 10/7/2022: seasick sorta green
how's it going? good glad to hear you're alive that means a lot to me
Record Player(With AJR), by Daisy the Great
youtube
i didn't know this was a real song i thought it was just a tiktok trend. which, of course, in retrospect makes no sense, but the sound to this song is just such a fun vibe. sounds like you're riding a bus through a city and a tree fell down across the road and you're stuck and you turn on your music and this is what you're listening to while they clear the road.

i know of a artist i think you will like, didn’t think to show tell now for some reason
these are my favorites and he uses a lot of biblical analogies in his songs, the first one especially
because my sister showed me Drawn to the Blood and i noticed all the analogies in the lyrics i asked her to google if he’s christian and he actually is but he’s not under a christian label because he doesn’t want he music to just be for christian’s,
also his music is not just about god, he has a lot about his addict mother and other things
oh that's so interesting! I've never heard of him before, but I'll definitely check him out!!! :D

River's Radio 9/6/2022: songs i almost sent my friend today
everyone pray for them please
Doomed, by Bring Me The Horizon.*
sometimes you feel like everything you do isn't enough, like you're never going to be able to escape. like you're stuck. like you're doomed. you're not. I promise you. you're not. no matter how much this song makes you want to stare up into a blurry gray sky and let it fall on you.
My Stress, by NF.
*crushes you in a hug* take a break if you relate to this song. find a way to make your life easier. maybe take a leisure day, or a weekend off. I don't know. You don't deserve to feel like this. You know you don't. Stop trying to convince yourself that you have to live like this.
My Demons, by Starset.
I once wrote a book based on this song. It was very bad. But this holds a special place in my heart as one of the best songs on this topic I've heard. Ever. It's just. So relatable? The difference between the desperation to rely on someone else, terrified of what's taking over you, and yet you can't fight it? I love that vibe. The "I can't beat this on my own. I can't fix this myself. I need help." It's also a kind of implication that whatever is fixing this issue is not a permanent fix, because it's distant, and yet "we are one and the same". It's quite possible that it's a song aimed at yourself, how when you look inside there's a part of you endlessly battling the dangerous, the hard, the bad, the demons you have to face, and there's the part of you that just needs to be rescued. Especially with that one line "Will I become my worst enemy?" If you give up on helping yourself, it's going to be harder than ever to deal with your won issues. None of it is going to be okay unless you realize that you need help and you can start moving on your own. If the friend in question is reading this, this is not specifically aimed at you. This is just me analyzing this song. Which I love to death. My Demons is way too interesting of a song to ignore, I think.

River's Radio 9/5/2022: Labor Day
my life ain't back to normal yet, classes start tomorrow. But heyo. Guess what. Gonna. Heckmin. Make. Three song. Post. Because. I'm tired.
If Only, from Disney's Descendants.
youtube
Too romantic for its own good. This is from Descendants. It should not be this good. But it is. So y'know what, I give up. This song is fun, it's perfect, and I really enjoy it. Especially out of context. It hits so much differently. And it's just good. Go feel like a little kid and listen to some Disney Channel Movie music.
Pushing Me Away, by Linkin Park.
youtube
*headbangs aggressively* this was my teenage angst phase and I appreciate it to this day. Also. This is just a fun, angst-filled song. It's very. Teenage and no one understands me like this song. Vibe. And sometimes I think that's okay. Sometimes it's okay to remember how at age 15 you thought that you were the only person in the world who thought music like this was cool. And sometimes it's okay to smile remembering who you used to be, too.
Mother Of God, by Patty Griffin.
youtube
My mom used to listen to this song. A lot. And now, to me, it just sounds like home. Maybe it's just a song that sounds like home, like leaning your head against the glass of the window, watching gray clouds go back and forth. I always wanted to be that person who stares at the picture, and sits with her cup of coffee, and talks with the Mother of God. I've always wanted to have a place to do that and the strength to get up in the morning. I've never had it, yet. Never had a worn wood table. Never had a picture to stare at. Never had a kitchen. I want to. Someday. I wonder if that's the day the house will start feeling like home. At any rate, I'm not there, yet. And, anyways. I'm more of a tea person, really.

River's Radio 9/4/2022: life aint back to normal it's still one song
anyways Moulin Rouge for reasons
Elephant Medley, by Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, Jamie Allen.
youtube
my life was ruined when i figured out that highschoolers perform this. because this musical is like, not for kids. At all? It's an amazing story, and it's a masterfully done movie, and it feels like taking a lot of hallucinogens and then letting your fanfic-fueled brain write a story and then going back to it a week later like "wtf did i even write". But it's really great, anyways. Not for kids, but hey. A lot of good things aren't, since they have too intense of messages, or topics. Like this one!
But this song is great. I'd rate this song PG because it mentions drinking? But other than that it's a completely chill song. If you like random musical numbers and references from like every song you've ever heard, you'll enjoy this song! Give it a try!!! It goes around in my mind on repeat like my head is a broken record!
I reccomend the Baz Lurhman movie to anyone over the age of 17(old enough to watch R rated music without parental consent)!
