Whenever Picard and Data hang out Picard's energy is always like a father who loves his son but is terrified he's going to start talking about Pokémon again.

Yeah picard is boring but he's boring in one of the funniest ways possible. Yeah he doesn't do shit ever but then every like 5 episodes something happens to him like an otherdimensional being tries to seduce him by trapping him in a fantasy holosuite land and he adamantly denies that he's incapable of having fun ever while continuing to have no fun. or an alien woman will try to have sex with him and he will say with no pretense or irony whatsoever "my dick is boring leave me alone". someone tries to get him to go to a party or even talk to him but hes like no actually I need to read this 140 year old thesis on the lowering popularity of the word "perchance" in the english vocabulary. he only ever drinks the same drink. Simple Question Starters (feel free to edit as needed)
Who was that?
Where are you going this late?
Is there anything you can’t do?
Why don’t you just go?
How could you do that?
What’s that smell?
Did you really think you’d get away with it?
Who pissed you off this time?
Another drink?
Up for a rematch?
Do I look like I’m made of _____?
Where’d you run off to?
Did you love him/her?
Do you love me?
Think we can make it?
Are you frightened?
Think you can win?
Don’t you think we’re a little old for these games?
What’s wrong?
Like what you see?

Q and Picard's relationship has to be one of the gayest things to have happened on Star Trek. I mean the whole interaction with the Borg happened because Q wanted Picard to tell him "I need you"? The issues you have to deal with when a godlike entity has a crush on you.

That was truly crushing news. Jean Luc was silent for a long moment, as he squeezed Data's knee supportively. Somehow, that he had fought the battle and bore the bad news alone made it all the more tragic. "Such a ruling is deeply unfair, Data, and I'd like you to know that I will file an official protest of their decision." It wouldn't do anything, but still, he needed his officer to know that he was supported here, if nowhere else.
"Is there anything else that I can do for you?" He would protest the decision, he would make his disapproval known, and he would stall for just as long as he possibly could, but in the end, none of that would even come close to righting the wrong being done here, and he knew it.
He was quiet for a long moment, lips pressed together. "I agree," he said slowly. "I think, Data, that you would be an excellent parent, and that disrupting her routine once again is only going to delay her recovery." That seemed logical, at least. Children needed set routines, as far as he knew, and it followed that younger children would need them even more. "But her welfare representative has decided it would be best to make the change into her permanant home sooner rather than later." Probably some attempt to get it over with. "And I simply don't have the authority to overrule that. I can delay things for several more hours," he offered. "Or, if you'd like..." He hated to even suggest this, when it's doomed to be unsuccessful, "I could put forward your request to keep her. I doubt the department would find in your favor, Data, but it would give you a few more days."
"Perhaps it would help if you met with the prospective parents. Got to know them."

He appreciated the sentiment, certainly, but he disagreed. This wasn't an obligation born of guilt or responsibility--but of a friend helping a friend. The social contract that allowed sentient beings to peaceably cohabitate demanded certain things within various types of relationships, and Jean Luc was happy to provide this. That Data was so willing to return the favor only reinforced his belief in the correctness of his assessment. "I appreciate that, Data. A great deal. Thank you."
He took several small sips of his tea, annoyed that his young tongue didn't repond to tastes in quite the ways he expected it to now. Then he looked up, surprised by the request. It was nothing if not reasonable, but it was something he was surprised Data would ask for, and he wished he knew why that was.
"You may," he answered. "I would be pleased if you did." He's not entirely certain that's true, because he's going to miss the repect and authority that comes with 'Captain,' which nobody else is going to be willing to grant him now either. But he recognizes that Data hasn't actually lost any respect for him. So he confirms his words with a small smile.
"I want to assure you, Data, that I plan to keep in touch, no matter what else I may do. You have become one of my dearest friends."
"I see your point." And he did. Of course he did. "But I have been given a great deal of liberty to choose. I've chosen to return to France for now because it suits my purposes to be on Earth while I decide if I will resume pursuing my doctorate or leave it in the past, but I believe I will have enough time to properly inform whomever is making the decision of the particulars of my situation and thus earn that freedom again, should it become necessary." He paused again--chewed on his lip and then seemed to realize he was doing so and stopped.
"I'll admit to having a secondary motive. I don't need a parent as anything more than a formality, which ought to grant my request to be placed with you--as unusual as a judge may find it--a higher probability of success than the last time Star Fleet had a hand in determing your parental rights. But, if we are successful, it would set a precedent, which would strengthen your case if you should choose to become a parent again at any point in the future. If I can grant you that advantage, I almost feel that I owe you that, as your friend."

Jean Luc does not grace Q's childish behavior with a response in kind. No, he does not reach for it, or even look at it, as Q holds it in the air. Instead, he crosses his arms and sighs.
"There is a difference," he insists, "between an identically replicated molecular structure and meat taken from an animal who lived and breathed and died for your lunch." And he wasn't attempting to take a moral position, particularly, but Q would never believe that, so Jean Luc didn't argue that point.
"If you're so wounded by an honest expression of surprise, then perhaps you ought to leave. Nurse your wounds in private."
*to a burger* " She was a good cow. " (I'M.)
“That’s… Real meat?” He wouldn’t have imagined, for some reason, that Q would be into that sort of thing. When one could make anything one wanted with merely a wish, did that something need a source?

Picard blinked, then frowned, then met Data's eyes quite seriously. It was helpful, actually, to have Data volunteer, but he didn't like that he saw himself as so disposable. More reasonable to risk my own existence than the life of one of the other members of the crew? In any other officer, that would be cause for a psychological reevaluation. Should it be so for Data as well. "I appreciate your willingness to sacrifice yourself for the safety of the crew, Data, but I'm afraid I simply don't see it that way. Your existence is no less important than that of any other crew member." Privately, he could admit that Data might even be more important to him. "I need you here."

"Sir, I would like to volunteer for this mission. As the likelihood for survival is minimal, it seems more reasonable to risk my own existence than the life of one of the other members of the crew."

Jean Luc huffed his own amusement and turned away from the window to face Q directly. "Hardly. In fact, I can't imagine anyone less in need of prayer. No, I was only thinking." He shook his head, glancing back out through the wide glass before stepping away from it. "It is an unfortunate constant of humanity that we include and uplift and care for all we can... until suddenly, the difference is too great. In the blink of an eye, the line between pitiable and evil is crossed, and for all that we wish to be seen as better..." He hated it. He would live with the guilt of his own failure for the rest of his life, and as much as it painted him, likely would be unable to find a moment of understanding for those who had stood in his way. "The ones who need our help the most, the great devil-figures of our history. The Klingons, the Romulans, the Borg. And truly, no meaningful differences. Merely a line in the sand." He looked terribly, overwhelmingly sad for a moment, before the feeling was buried again.

"Are you referring to me, mon capitaine?"
Q turns an expression of nearly indulgent amusement on the admiral.

"Because, you see, my dear, I would rather you sing my praises than lament my solitude. It is, after all, bearable so long as I can come and rigorously stretch the bounds of your patience."

That was another issue entirely. Picard's eyes went wide with brief shock before he regained his composure, then he shook his head. "No, Data. No. Thank you." He might be pleased for Data, but that did not mean he wanted to be involved with someone else's pet.
"Oh no, by no means, Data! I'll admit that I'm surprised by it, but I think it's an interesting new pathway for exploring your humanity. It does explain why you might be hesitant to hand over her care." It put the whole situation in a new light really. He leaned to one side to get a better view of the kitten. She certainly seemed content enough, though that would undoubtedly change if they encountered turbulence. "Just keep her steady, helmsman," he said to the officer at the next station, who's more than likely to be the first in the path of those claws if something happens to throw her off Data's lap.
