my pages for the mcr Unkillable zine :-) about my chronic pain and seeing "the foundations of decay" live
transcription below
I've spent the past few years in constant pain. My pain makes it easy for me to separate myself from everything, and to convince myself I'm less of a person.
When I finally saw my favorite band, it was the first time in my life that I actually felt like I was a part of the world. I realized that if the music that had pulled me through the worst parts of my life could touch the strangers surrounding me in the exact same way, I could never truly be alone.
"YOU MUST FIX YOUR HEART / AND YOU MUST BUILD AN ALTAR WHERE IT SWELLS."
"Foundations" was the most special song to witness live because it's the ultimate reminder that whether or not my illness goes away, and no matter how difficult it is to live sometimes, I have no choice but to grieve, endure, and survive. I've made a promise to myself that I'll spend the rest of my life making it a place I can devote myself to, alongside the people I care about deeply.
yess you should! that would be so fun :D also i’ve only had to use glucagon once in my whole life & like i wrote in the drawing i also tend to forget it, but i’ve always had it drilled into me by doctors that i should be taking it everywhere LOL.
other than when you’re literally unconscious i think it can be good for times where you Also can’t keep food or drink down, like if you end up with food poisoning, migraine, HEAT EXHAUSTION…… any kind of nausea/vomiting situation Plus hypoglycemia i would want to have it available. and if you’re at a show already being active for several hours, that just exacerbates everything else. soo this has been a Diabetes PSA: consider taking glucagon with you to concerts my friends 👍
here’s my page for thee fantastic UNKILLABLE zine by @thrashbeatles and @birdloaf! it’s an illustrated list of medical supplies i took with me to see mcr… any other diabetic folks have similar concert-going staples?!
i’m really happy to get to be a part of this project, especially alongside my friends 🖤🖤🖤. everyone’s work is beautiful and you should check it out if you haven’t already
