Slipping it in under the wire here.
Thoughts on the job market. I have been turned down from at least 3 internships and entry level positions at various large institutions on the east coast in the past few weeks. From the beginning of college, I had it drilled into my brain that the only way I would be employed post college would be to have already been hired somewhere. After 4 years of unpaid internships, minimum wage jobs, and part time nannying I am finding that, somehow, I am still under qualified for the most basic administrative positions in the eyes of these institutions. I could argue, selfishly I admit, that I have had more work experience then the majority of my graduating BFA class and yet, with each application I further doubt my capability to perform even basic jobs. At this point, my only goal is to maintain a level of homeostasis, being able to buy groceries and pay rent, and the rest would be a luxury. This is not the place I hoped to be, when I could have been learning and soaking up culture, I chose to work because I was assured that making work a priority while being a full time student would secure me an alright position somewhere post graduation. This is clearly not the case.

I found these gifs I made a while back for a site that’s not running anymore, so I thought I’d post them here. It’s a description of psychiatric symptoms and states of mind using a pink box and some other stuff.

Incredible work from an incredible man Hennessey Youngman is truly iconic. The ART THOUGHTZ vlog series captured a moment in the rise of the Youtube vlog genre in like 2011-2012. He talks to the viewer directly and breaks down concepts like Institutional Critique and Relational Aesthetics that are pervasive in higher arts education with humor and bite. Its just such good work. Just extremely smart, good work that both reveals and obscures Youngman as a person. He is both fact and fiction in these videos and I love it.

How do I begin to explain the importance of teachers? Or How do I show my appreciation in an honest way?
Well, if you are me, you haggle with the check out guy at Blick for tubes of Torrit grey, a grey that is concocted each year by Gamblin Paints from all the dregs of previous colors from the year. The tone varies from year to year and because of that inconsistency it is given out for free with purchase. Its the ultimate secret menu item of the world of oil paint, much like the illusive free tub of color with purchase from RGH in New Hampshire (he’s a wizard with oil). If you love your professor like I love this specific person, with the quiet, fervent admiration of a disciple (maybe that analogy is a little intense) then you flirt with a man who could pass a polish sausage through the gage in his ear so that he gives you two tubes of this illusive color instead of the obligatory 1 with purchase “upon request.”
This may seem like a meager gesture in the long run but in that moment I felt like I was contributing to the life of someone I respect in a very real way, providing him with the tools necessary to creating the work that has been important to me. I live for these small moments of clarity, small chances to do good for the sake of good

This tumblr is a record of ideas, reviews, and internal dialogues around the idea of contemporaneity, art, and visual culture. I understand that it will be a narrow scope but ultimately, this is for my own purposes. I want to learn how to write with clarity and conviction and hopefully that sense of focus will bleed itself into my daily life.
I will be updating this collection every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday with a new written piece for the next 30 days. At the end of that time the blog will be reassessed and necessary changes will be made. I may post in between those days but I pressure myself like that. This tumblr will be categorized into a series of tags.
You- me addressing you
Review- things I have seen and have opinions on
Dialogue- The scheduled posts
Other tags will be developed with time.
Thank you
