Are you a woman who loves reading comics? Then come join us for our monthly women's comic book club!
For Sunday, February 1st, we will be reading The Fuse: The Russia Shift, by antonyjohnston and justingreenwood. When Dietrich, a young German detective, arrives in the massive space station city of Midway he is thrown into action with his more experienced Russian partner, Klem. The pair get to know each other quickly as they work to solve a murder that touches the history of Midway itself.
We know the 1st is Superbowl Sunday, but not to worry. For The Fuse we have a very special opportunity to discuss the book again on Sunday, March 1st, this time with both creators in the store!
Tumblr media
Antony and Justin are coming to the store on Sunday March 1st for a signing that is open to the general public. After the signing they will be joining the Fantastic Ladies Comics Club as our very first, in person creator guests during our regular 7:30 meeting. Book club members will have the opportunity to ask questions about The Fuse and discuss the work with the creators on hand.

Are you a woman who loves reading comics? Then come join us for our monthly women’s comic book club! Read a pre-arranged trade paperback or hardcover a month, then join us for a group discussion. Share your favorite monthly titles with the group and get recommendations. Catch up on all the goings on in geek culture. Have fun and talk comics! For Sunday July 2nd we will be reading the first volume of the Hawkeye, by Matt Fraction and David Aja. Hawkeye is an Avenger, but when he’s not saving the world he is mild-mannered Clint Barton. Watch as Clint gets beaten up by local gangsters, finds an apartment, runs out of coffee, and tries not to ruin all of his relationships. At least he’s good at boats. Also featuring Kate Bishop, Hawkeye not Hawkguy! We meet every 1st Sunday of the month from 7:30PM - 8:30PM at Fantastic Comics, 2026 Shattuck Ave, one block from Downtown Berkeley BART. Once again book club member Ouliana knocks it out of the park!
If you're in the area please do yourself a favor and stop by Fantastic Comics to see her Captain Marvel in person. This piece is so gorgeous!

Captain Marvel - some assembly required
People seemed to like the Hawkguy stained glass, so here is another piece with the wonderful Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel! Inspired by the powerful art of Jamie McKelvie that truly captured the strength and determination of one of my favorite heroes.
It will also be hanging at Fantastic Comics :D
(The mesh behind it on the photos is a bug net I cannot remove from my windows… Living in grad housing has its advantages and inconveniences - sigh.)
The piece is 20 inches x 30 inches; 300$ worth of glass, 8$ worth of solder and 5$ worth of band-aids

Incredible book club member Ouliana is also incredibly talented! Just in time for our Hawkguy meeting, she's finished this beautiful stained glass piece! She says we've kindly agreed to hang it in our window, but we think our window is lucky to be graced by her art!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally finished Hawkeye the Hawkguy - stained glass edition! Inspired by the wonderful art of David Aja, and the amazing story of Matt Fraction. This particular frame is, to me, the quintessential Clint Barton - bandages everywhere and drinking straight out of the coffee pot, being all kinds of misunderstood and not taken seriously despite his best efforts.
The wonderful employees of Fantastic Comics of Berkeley have kindly agreed to display the finished piece in their store. If you happen to walk by, take a look-see and maybe find something you like! :D

Club leaders Heather and Juliette are big time SexCrims fans. You'll be able to see the brimpception pics first hand if you're coming to the club's live video chat with Matt and Chip!

Once upon a time Matt and Chip made a beautiful cover for the 4th printing of issue #1 of Sex Criminals. This beautiful cover captured the imagination of brimpers everywhere, including myself and my lovely coworker Heather (girlblunders). The situation has since escalated nicely.
Welcome to Brimpception!
