New Year, New Décor: Top 5 Interior Design Trends for 2021
Looking for ways to reinvent and refresh your home from this 2021? Making the interior design of your environment work for you is crucially important when we are spending most of our time in the house at the moment. We’ve collated our top 5 interior design trends for this year which you can implement both on a budget and on a larger scale to reinvigorate your space.
 1.       Cottagecore
After a year where we have spent unprecedented times in our home, it is no surprise that the cottagecore aesthetic is following us into the new year. But what does this trend entail? The Guardian describes cottagecore as ‘a visual and lifestyle movement designed to fetishize the wholesome purity of the outdoors’; it emphasises the simplicity and peacefulness of pastoral and rural life, making it the perfect escape from the hectic modern world.
In terms of interior design and décor, think muted pastel palettes, flowers, vintage prints and natural textures which can be achieved easily and injected into your home with just a few simple pieces. Floral touches like our Metallum Floral arrangement, blooming with fresh cream and muted green tones (finished with an antique style planter), are the perfect cottagecore additions for any space. Try and locate pieces like our Burleigh Pottery Asiatic Pheasants Tankard and Blush Pink Ginger Jar which both use muted pink pastel tones and traditional shapes to achieve the cottagecore style.
Larger design ideas that adhere to this trend include exposed beams and original floorboards which add character and authenticity to your home. Moreover, once reserved for libraries, panelled walls are becoming increasingly popular and achieve the cottagecore look in a more sophisticated and chic manner.

2.       And it was all Yellow (and Grey!)
In a surprising turn of events, Pantone named not one, but two colours of the year: Illuminating (a bold yellow) and Ultimate Grey (a classic and solid tone). Leatrice Eiseman (Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute) stated that the colours were chosen to ‘express a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit’.
Whilst the popularity of neutral tones continues, grey tones like Pantone’s choice are expected to take the forefront, with this cool and resilient colour injecting modernity and elegance into any space. Why not shop our cement range to add a touch of grey contemporary styling into your home easily?
Blend bold colours like Pantone’s Yellow with these grey neutrals this year. Whether this is through statement walls or décor pieces like our Ochre Yellow Ginger Jar, introduce daring colours to uplift and reinvigorate your space.

3.       Sustainable Styling
Ditch fast interiors in 2021 and opt for eco-friendly and sustainable décor. In the face of alarming climate change, environmental choices are vital even in the world of interior of design. Collingwood Home was created after realising the negative impact importing fresh flowers from Amsterdam for events was having on the environment, in terms of wastage and carbon emissions. Our range of artificial flowers offers you the opportunity to start making more conscious decisions with your interior décor. Use eco-friendly companies like Lick for paint, choose natural materials like cane, jute, leather and ceramics and select organic, natural or recycled fabrics in your home. They’re easy choices and they make the world of difference!
Implement this trend further by incorporating warm tones like golds, olive greens and burnt oranges to bring a calming and natural feel into your home.
4.       Jet-setter interiors
Satisfy your wanderlust with this next 2021 trend: global influence. This fashion and interior décor trend provides you with the escapism we all need right now by introducing a mix of international style and culture into your home. Travel to France with effortless chic, antique pieces like our Luciana Urn, Thailand with red toned walls and woven straw chairs, China with our traditional Ginger Jar (with a Chinese Country Scene) which would have been originally used to transport spices or Germany with minimal and functional pieces like our cement range. Find more ideas from specific countries here.
It is all about layering pieces and textures to create an entirely unique and curated environment in your home. When travel is a lot easier, start searching for unusual, distinctive or traditional pieces from your travel destinations to use when styling coffee tables or shelves for authenticity, a great conversation starter and memory evoking piece.
5.       Lead a life of Luxury
Live in the lap of luxury in 2021 as classic and luxury interiors are reinvigorated. This style introduces a level of opulence and sumptuousness that redefines the home with all the comforts and refinements of boutique hotels. Our love of navy here at Collingwood Home is perfect for this trend which uses classic blues to reference luxury hotel design, art deco style and Viennese Modernism. We have already seen this love for blue reflected in the dark blue kitchens of many homeowners in 2020 but it is expected to continue this year. Smaller pieces like our Classic Navy Ginger Jar or Navy Curved Bowl are purchases which won’t break the bank (both under £40) but can really elevate your interior. What says luxury more than Haute Couture designers? Add a touch of their class into your homes with our luxury books on designers such a Chanel and Dior.
More specifically, Luxury Minimal design is expected to take off in 2021 as more people turn to clearer and simpler spaces in their home which include materials, furniture and décor with a luxury touch. Items such as our Ampulla Terracotta Vase or Amphora Terracotta Vase fit this idea with their striking design yet simple elegance. Find more tips, tricks and inspiration here.

6 Reasons Why Artificial Flowers are Never a Faux Pas
We may be biased but we think artificial flowers are one of the best décor investments you can make when you’re looking to style your interior. It’s no coincidence that people have been crafting faux flowers for the past 1,500 years; they’re the perfect way to make your home appear fuller, fresher and brighter without the hassle and limited shelf life of cut flowers. Not only do they look and feel like the real thing but there are multiple reasons why artificial flowers are the obvious choice. Shed the stigma attached to faux flowers and read our reasons below!
1.       A Flower for all Seasons
Fill your home with your favourite flowers all year round! There is no need to wait for your favourites to come into season anymore because you can have them everyday with artificial flowers. You can even pair together flowers which may grow in March and September to achieve the style you want without having to compromise. Moreover, you can always guarantee your flowers will fit your aesthetic and interior décor. Have a calming purple moment with our faux lavender and heather arrangement, mimic the fresh, clean and minimal tones of your space with our Metallum Floral arrangement or keep it natural with the Grandis Foliage Vase.
Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, having flowers fill your home all year round has been shown to positively impact your overall happiness and reduce stress. Seeing flowers (real or artificial) triggers happy brain chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, whilst their colour also makes you happier through chromotheraphy. Whether you are giving, receiving or treating yourself to flowers, their benefits go beyond mere decoration. Give the gift of long-lasting happiness and beauty today!

2.       Alive and Well
Keep forgetting to water your plants or wanting to enliven a dark corner of your home? You don’t need to worry about killing artificial plants. Place them in dark corners without having to worry about them getting enough sunlight or place them in a sun-filled area and they won’t wither! Perfect for the frequent traveller or the friend that seems to be able to even kill a cactus, these are thoughtful and long-lasting presents guaranteed to make anyone smile.
3.       Keep Allergies at Bay
Don’t risk provoking allergies with artificial flowers, keeping your family, guests and even pets safe with this hypoallergenic choice. Flowers such as Chamomile, Chrysanthemums, Daisies and Sunflowers can cause nasty allergic reactions in people so why risk it by bringing them into your home? Especially if you have a canine friend, avoid Chrysanthemums, Hydrangeas, Buttercups and more which can be highly toxic to dogs. Choose arrangements like our Hyalus Glass Bowl Floral or Italian Antique Style Floral Urn to achieve the same look with these flowers without any risk. Moreover, you won’t need to worry about cleaning up fallen petals or pollen, keeping your house both clean and safe!
Tumblr media
4.       Shop Sustainably
Collingwood Home was created after realising the cost and impact importing fresh flowers from Amsterdam for events was having. In the UK, 80% of cut flowers come via the Netherlands with the remaining 20% largely flying in from Kenya (especially roses), Ethiopia, Ecuador and Colombia. The transport required to get these flowers to our front door emits harmful carbon emissions that damage our environment and contribute to global warming and climate change. For example, it is said that in the US roughly 100 million roses are given on a typical Valentine’s Day which produces 9,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Along with other issues such as pesticide pollution and exploitation in the supply chain, fresh cut flowers may carry heavy consequences that you are not even aware of. Take a leaf out of Sir David Attenborough’s book and make the environmentally conscious decision of choosing artificial flowers or even local fresh flowers, reducing transport costs and your own carbon footprint.
5.       Always Look Your Best
Whilst you may have had less visitors than normal this year, always make sure your home is prepared for those unexpected guests or last-minute family stays with artificial floral arrangements. They guarantee your house is always looking its best without the hassle, effort and maintenance. Why not invest in one of our orchids like the Tibia Glass Urn Orchid or Grigio Orchid for a show stopping piece to really impress your guests, whether this is at home or in a corporate environment.
Tumblr media
6.       Get Your Money’s Worth
Don’t break the bank when you choose artificial flowers. The cost of regularly buying, maintaining, and replacing plants and flowers can quickly rack up over several years without you even realising! Artificial flowers and plants are a cost-effective option with little or no ongoing costs after your initial purchase that will last for years to come. With our prices starting at just £35.00, it really is a no brainer if you’re looking for new additions to your home or the perfect present for Christmas or birthdays.
While we love fresh cut flowers at Collingwood Home, for us, artificial flowers appear the easier, least time consuming, stylish, environmentally friendly and, in the long run, cheaper option. So why not start building your collection today? They are the perfect addition to any interior space, as centrepieces or styling pieces; why not finish off a coffee table book stack with your favourite arrangement? Browse our Artificial Flower Arrangements today for the perfect addition to your own home or for a thoughtful gift to bring long lasting colour and character to your loved one’s home.

The Art of Coffee Table Book Styling: 6 Top Tips
Having spent an unprecedented amount of time in our homes for the past eight months, we have been lusting over home interiors like never before and searching for ways to improve our homes. One failsafe and simple way to elevate your interior décor is to add a collection of carefully curated and beautiful coffee table books- not only are they aesthetically pleasing but they provide another source of entertainment! Revamp any tabletop with carefully styled books giving a sense of style and purpose to any space from your living room to your hallway and even your bathroom.
Designed to give valuable insight into the lives of the subjects or specific topics, great coffee table books can cover photographers, fashion houses, musicians, other notable figures, interior design, travel and so much more; they are intended to be meaningful, inspirational and make a statement. Choose these illustrated books for more digestible additions to your living spaces, rather than the long novels that might be lying unread on your bookcase gathering dust.
To simplify ‘the art of coffee table book styling’, we’ve put together 6 top tips to get you started on creating this interior décor feature! We’ve even added shoppable links so you don’t have to spend hours searching through google for the best books:
Tumblr media
1.       Curate your collection
Start to curate your collection as soon as possible- finding the right coffee table book for their subject, aesthetic and price can take research and time. If you start early and work over time, soon enough you’ll have an enviable collection of great value.  Search for articles to give you inspiration or start online shopping to begin the process!
Whilst some picture books might be an investment piece, Collingwood Home’s collection is all under £50; books such as The Little Dictionary of Fashion Christian Dior start at just £14.95. Begin building your collection without breaking the bank!
2.       Stack the deck
Stack your selection on your chosen coffee table or surface, placing the largest book at the base of the stack. Start big in size with a coffee table book hardcover to make a statement and subsequently use smaller books to create a mini tower. The key trick is to find pieces that vary slightly in size; an extreme variation from a large tabloid size book to a postcard size book will look unbalanced. On the other hand, a neat and uniform stack hides the beautiful covers of your collection.
An odd number of coffee table books in your stack generally works better. Research has shown an odd number of details is more effective at capturing your gaze, making sure your collection is the star of the show!
3.       Show your home’s true colours
Play around with different colour combinations of these illustrated books suitable for displaying to achieve the best fit for your interior décor.
Why not have a monochromatic moment? Pick all black coffee table books like our Alexander McQueen and Pink Floyd biographies for a sleek and contemporary feel. Or why not try a gradient; think pink with our Yves Saint Laurent Catwalk and Tim Walker: Wonderful Things texts. Make a statement with pops of a bold colour like red (see David Bowie IS). We personally love assorting bold colours to bring life to neutral rooms and give enough scope to play around with other interior design ideas and colours.
4.       Subject matters
We prefer coffee table books for living rooms that give us the opportunities to expand our horizons and grow our passions. We find that coffee table books can be transportive to different eras, lifetimes and places around the world, the perfect addition to any home in a time when travel is so heavily restricted.  At Collingwood Home, we stock books created by the Victoria and Albert Museum, offering you unmatched expertise and insights into the world of fashion and music, designed to supplement blockbuster exhibitions held at the museum. Explore the major influence of David Bowie on creative arts, admire the unseen fashions and art of Frida Kahlo, study the travel photography of the extraordinary Horst and revel at the wit and wisdom of The World According to Coco Chanel. Expand your horizons from you sofa!
5.       Read, read, read
Whilst you may not be receiving many visitors at the moment, this type of book for casual viewing is fantastic as a conversation starter and talking piece. Make sure you actually read your purchases so you aren’t caught off guard. They’re beautiful props but they’re meant to be read and enjoyed.
We can’t get enough of coffee table books at the moment; not only are they feeding our interior design obsession but they are also providing a much needed and welcomed source of entertainment as we enter into the winter months. Cosy up with a cup of tea on the sofa one evening and be transported to another world, one of Christian Dior, Gabrielle Chanel or David Bowie.
6.       Don’t be scared to stack other décor pieces on top
Do not be afraid to stack other décor pieces on top of your collection to keep building on your styling and help change up your décor. The best options are things which won’t damage the beautiful covers of your collection. Whilst free standing candles and plant pots may look stunning, they have the potential to tarnish your coffee table books fashion. Why not try candles in glass containers and artificial flower arrangements for the same yet safer effect? Small arrangements like our Cement Trough Planter floral, Hyalus Glass Bowl Floral or Metallum Floral work perfectly to accessorize and personalise your stack. Trinket boxes and ginger jars also work beautifully and can be dressed with your favourite flowers or left as a stand alone piece. The possibilities are really endless!
What are you waiting for? Get styling!
Coffee table books make the perfect failsafe present, bringing literary and aesthetic charm to anyone’s home. Whether you’re searching for new homeowner gifts, Christmas presents, presents for best friends or interior design lovers, coffee table books are both thoughtful and stylish Why not kick start someone’s collection today? Collingwood Home want to make the gift giving process as simple and hassle free as possible which is why we offer gift wrap service so it can be delivered directly to your loved ones’ door!
