Scholarship in Nepal

Scholarships are vital for Nepal as there are more than 30 percent of students that are still unprivileged from basic to higher level of education. Thus, Ministry of Education have initiated and executed its policy to provide education through community and government school to primary level. However, after completion of primary level students are still unprivileged for secondary level of education. There are many NGO and INGO that are working for towards the development of educational infrastructure of the nation. However the effort cannot be totally relied for every students. 

To some extends students who have completed their secondary education with good marks can apply for various kinds of scholarships for higher education. There are many categories of scholarships available to Nepali students under International scholarships or fellowship program. Few to name are Netherlands fellowship which is offered by the government of Netherlands, UWE Millennium Scholarship offered for international students in Masters Degree via the University of the West of England. Moreover there are other scholarship provided under Aid Program by NZAID. All of these scholarships have a deadline and are offered annually. Apart these scholarships one of the most popular and sought out one is the Full bright foreign student program offered by the USA government for Masters and PHD programs.

Education in Nepal

Education in Nepal is a long history since the culture of teaching at home. The formation of primary school was back then in the eighties, but education was only possible for higher society people. However after the democracy many educational institution began to start its execution to the reach of general people.

The top level educational body executing and exercising all the rights in Nepal is Ministry of Education. Under the ministry of education is the universities of Nepal. The largest and oldest university is Tribhuvan University popularly known as TU. Other universities that have been providing education since a decade are Kathmandu University, Purbanchal University and Pokhara University. There are however, altogether 9 university including an open university in Nepal, with Ministry of Education the apex of all educational institution.

The educational structure of Nepal is divided along Higher Education, secondary education and primary education. Higher education is provided by the universities, while secondary and primary are conducted by schools. Other than that, there are vocational training centers like CTEVT that are directly controlled by the Ministry of Education. Regarding the primary and secondary education there are two types of school in Nepal. One is community and the other institutional. Community schools gets grants from the government. On the other hand, institutional schools are the private bodies that are executed by their own source of funds. Now schools provide 16+2 years of education.
