I have more and more gray hairs popping up lately, so I know that pulling them out isn't a sustainable solution. Luckily, we live in an age where it's perfectly acceptable for women to grow their gray hair out—my own mental blocks are the only thing compelling me to get rid of them! Plus, there's SO MUCH hair on my head, it's almost impossible for other people to see the gray. I guess I'll leave them alone...for now. ;_; 

Taking a break from a weekly comic with some art that’s just for fun! I’ve been wanting to draw Willie Jack from the Reservation Dogs for a while now. I love this show, and I love Paulina Alexis as this character. 

Trying out a bit of 2D animation today, happy pumpkin spice season or whatever! It’s actually 101 degrees Fahrenheit today, if anyone is wondering. I am positively melting.

This comic is only a slight exaggeration—there are so many exceptions to the rules! I have literally been shoo'd away from legal street parking by security guards who were saving spots for film crews. 😐 You can get towed for anything in this town.

Life Update!

A little comic I made for a summer-themed anthology last year about that magical time between grades, when there's no expectation, only joy.

Yo, my immune system is kicking ASS right now! Yes, I'm on day 6 of a Covid infection. But I'm feeling okay today and have been super bored, so I thought I'd do some drawing. This tuckered me out, time for a nap. Also, if you've never seen or read Watchmen...this is a reference to that. 😆 

My friend Darren and I met this friendly horse guy on a recent hike, and I was just baffled by this comment. It reminded me that different generations have very different references for beauty or athleticism. Like, I don't think I've even WATCHED a Miss America pageant, so I was like...what the hell is this guy talking about. 😅 And no...he did not know who America Chavez was lol

This comic is a little embarrassing for me—I'm an independent person! But I got used to working two feet away from my spouse for the entire pandemic. 😅 And as it turns out, that's not emotionally healthy? Who knew!! My therapist, that's who. 😆 I feel a lot better having my own space looking out into nature. These small perspective shifts really make a difference in close quarters! 

I have a very strange relationship with food! I have this idea in my head that if I buy even one unhealthy food item, I won't have the will power to stop eating it and it will destroy me. YOLO is the only way to ignore my hyper-vigilance, and I'm much happier for it, to be honest. (Also....that instant boba is so good! Available at Costco!!!!)

It continues to astound me that the U.S government expects people to suddenly become experts in tax law and accounting every year. Luckily, we file early and that allows us to catch mistakes like this, so we will probably NOT go to tax jail. But an old accountant friend of mine once said the IRS loves to target artists for audits, because they tend to miss important tax info (or not file at all). So who really knows?! Happy Tax Season lol 

My family was intentional about instilling good values in me from a young age! They were very upfront about their own lives and experiences, in hopes that I could learn from them. Happy International Women's Day and Women's History Month! I love looking back at all the women who were unapologetic about who they were and became a cultural force for change in their respective communities. Frida's auto-biographical critiques of Mexican society and the feminine experience were especially bold by early 20th-century standards. I'm only just starting to dig into my Indigenous American and Spanish roots, but I've always felt a special connection to her work.

This is why I don't draw eyebrows on my characters. They're untamable!! I can't feel any emotion without my right eyebrow trying to fly off of my face. Here's a mini horror comic based on a weird figurine that popped up in my neighborhood. I walk past that lawn every day, and I haven't seen it before or since. It's probably supposed to be a friendly creature—it seems to be helping an old lady or something?—but the eyes were creepy. It's like we had caught it mid-journey, like we weren't supposed to see it. 🙃 Just my over-active imagination!
