THAT SETTLED that. at least she was no longer risking her academic career and in a few short months, she was good to graduate and forget about this entire… incident. she had tried to convince herself over the next little while that she was completely and utterly over noah. no; professor hoffman. and if she struggled to hook up with other guys since they left her feeling unsatisfied, no one else would have to know.
she kept her head down in that class, marking other students’ papers and answering emails and whatever questions they might have had on their essays. she always sat all the way back and she would keep her interactions with professor hoffman at a minimum. it was better this way, and it did distract her from the naughty thoughts that occasionally intruded in her mind; the memories of the night they shared.
she was working on her essay in the library for another class, when her phone buzzed. normally, reina wouldn’t even bother looking at her phone; too engrossed in the writings of descartes. but when she glanced over and saw who it was that texted her, her curiosity piqued. she pushed her glasses up her nose and looked at the sent messages.
oh shit.
she sat there, staring at the text thread for a few long minutes; debating with herself. should she? on one hand, she didn’t want to spend any more time with him than necessary or else she would spiral down the path filled with forbidden thoughts and fantasies. on the other hand… networking was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
with a sigh, she sent her reply.
reina [9:03pm]: sure, yeah i’ll come with.
reina [9:04pm]: and that’s all you require? organizing your notes?
reina [9:04pm]: please send me the details so i can make the appropriate arrangements for my schedule.
the fifteen or so minutes he waits is pure agony. noah does not want her to misinterpret his request, or perhaps even take it poorly after their initial decision. it’s only as he finally is able to focus back onto grading when he is jolted by the buzz of his phone.
he breathes a sigh of relief, texting back immediately.
noah [9:07pm]: thank you. you don’t know how much this will help. also helping with set-up for presentations and making sure we go to the events we’re scheduled for.
noah [9:08pm]: 2022_convention.pdf sent
of course, he hadn’t told her everything though. he swallows, looking down at his phone, wondering if he should tell her now, or break the news to her later, when they arrived at the hotel.
noah [9:11pm]: the other thing is that it’s one room. i promise there will be two beds and i will step out of the room if you need me to, okay?
noah [9:12pm]: i understand if you want to back out now, though.

“an important job, huh?” denver’s clenches his jaw, wondering if that’s the sort of man kira wanted — self-important, unthoughtful, borderline rude. all words that honestly, could describe himself, but when it came to kira, he’d always treated her better than anyone else. “and what if i said i could do that for you — prioritize your feelings?”

farran scoffed at what she believed was a poor attempt to defend himself, in a matter of second the woman had unlocked her phone as she slid it across the counter to him. “explain this then.” the image wasn’t the best and if it wasn’t for knowing what he wore, it was hard to recognize the male’s identity. “god if you’re going to attempt to cheat on me at least be fucking subtle.” now farran rarely swore, but this current situation felt fitting enough to her.
he stares at farran for a moment before peering at her phone. the photo was blurry, but julian could just make out the incriminating evidence of the back of a blonde head hanging off of a larger figure that looked remarkably like him. it was difficult to tell what they were doing, but it certainly could read as non-platonic. “are you fucking kidding me —” he scoffs, pushing the phone back to her, arms crossed on his chest in defense, “— even if that was me, what the hell are you trying to say? that i can’t hug someone at a goddamn party?”
