WEEK 8 @ SELF MADE STUDIOS
The final week at Self Made Studios!
- This week me and Lily delivered a presentation to all the staff and directors here explaining and showing them a snippet of all the work we have done during our time here.
- Set out a blog plan including lots of ideas and images ready for them to post over the next few months.
- Cut out a pair of Pjs in fabric for a toile.
- Took lots of pictures of the studio and the artists work who are making prints for the new brand.
- Did a top fitting and then photographed and filmed the details.

Week 7 @ Self Made Studios
- Planned layout for the new website.
- Continues logo designs.
- More typography planning and decided on a final font for the brand.
- Cut out a pair of trousers and skirt for a new client in an interesting print.
- Created a presentation on our time here and what we have done over the last 7 weeks to show the directors and the rest of the team what we have done for their new brand and brief them (as they aren’t working on it yet). We are presenting this for the whole team on Wednesday.
- Sourced tissue paper and stickers to wrap some medical equipment that has been made to send out to the customer.
- Decided on button sizes for the new brand.
- Chose a fusible for a linen jacket, then looked online to try and source the correct one.

Week 6 @ Self Made Studios
- This week we spent the full week creating branding and logos for the new brand.
- From initial to final development of ideas.
- Decided on typography.
- Looked into website design ready to begin it next week

WEEK 5 @ SELF MADE STUDIOS
- Created a competitors report looking at price points of competing brands - what they’re currently selling and a matrix to go with it.
- Finished the range plan of illustrator flats .
- Decided on which fabrics and colourways could be a possibility for each garment for the new collection.
- Created tech packs for each garment.
- Created “railway children dress” pattern block.
- Did a fitting of a vintage shirt on me and Lily to decide correct armhole placement and whether it was the correct pattern to transfer into the new collection.
- Assisted Lily in creating 3 customer profiles for the new brand.
- Continued with WGSN research into longue wear and print trends.
- Created a document involving analytics from WGSN’s latest data for S/S A/W 21-22. Focusing on looking at garments in the new range plan and using the data to support the design decisions.
- Looked at WGSN sustainability after Covid-19 report.
- Traced off childrens “railway dress” to create blocks in ages 2-9.
- Adjusted blocks to create new frill sizes to match the new graded “railway dress” block.
- Traced off a simple 2 piece dress pattern.

WEEK 4 @ SELF MADE STUDIOS
- Sampled for their brand, experimenting with quilting and seeing how their organic cotton jersey can be manipulated.
- Brief meeting with Sarah regarding range plan, trying on certain garments.
- Started sketching out range plan and development - exploring different aspects of detail.
- created illustrator flats of the designs.
- started matching fabric samples in the linen, organic denim and organic sweatback cotton.

Week 3 @ Self Made Studios
This week was very focused on social media.
- Began by creating a series of images and a video to demonstrate how to package a piece of medical equipment the team have created to be sent to America.
- Social media strategies. Looking at hashtags and competitors instagrams - also looking at how they use reels.
- Planning for their new instagram and creating content.
- Spent a lot of time walking round the area, taking photos for instagram and stories. This helped with getting to grips with the area and therefore the heart and backstory to go with the brand.
- Pattern cut a sample dress for Freya Lillie.
- Visited The Pineapple Gallery - local art gallery that has just been awarded best gallery in the north 2020. Met lots of locals who gave us lots of information about the rejuvenation of the area and what goes on.
- Briefed Sarah regarding the content.
- Read through (image below) trend book. Looked at new trend websites we had discovered.
- Cut out fusible for Freya Lille dresses and used the heat press to apply them.
- Sorted out swatches and organised them into a swatch book.
- Assisted lily with cutting out a 1920s women pattern.
- Sarah told us all about her ecology PHD in fashion and how its influencing the new Self made brand.
- Created content for the social media through quote posters and created unique hashtags to get the brand out there.
- Began to think about brand names
- Traced off a sleeve.

Week 2 @ Self Made Studios
This week was focused on researching the new brand that they are launching.
- Spent a lot of time on Mintel looking at current spending habits and how COVID-19 is changing this. Also looked at WGSN womenswear, leisure, sleep, print, lingerie reports.
- Started researching into the logistics behind social media. Looking into colour pallets, what to include, hashtags to use to optimise posts.
- Took images from our shared Pinterest board and started to consolidate them into an initial ideas moodboard to get a more clear idea on what the collection will be.
- Researched competitor brands
- Assisted Sarah with a clients fitting amendments, cut the existing pockets to the new size for a new sample. Cut new pockets out of fabric. This fabric was VERY hard to work with so it took a lot of time and care.
- Created a block for a baby’s outfit by tracing off onto card.
- Traced off pockets for Lily Ella after a grade. From size 10 - size 12.
- Prepared the WGSN and Mintel presentations me and Lily created and briefed Sarah ready for her to go into the directors meeting with our findings

Dome Designs
I have started up a small instagram where I am turning people photos into digital drawings.
So far it Is going really well and I've had around 20 sales and have lots of orders for the lead up to Christmas!!
I have attached a few examples of what I have been doing.
The pink lighthouse was in aid of breast cancer awareness month. 25% of profits to be donated to the pink ribbon charity.

Week 1 @ Self made studios
First of all we had a meeting with one of the directors of the company - Sarah, where we showed her research we had been doing for a new brand. This was in the form of Pinterest and mood boards. Also some research on Make it British and Made in Britain, FTUK and British Fashion Council. I had also been looking into how to market through social media - primarily instagram which I should be starting on soon.
I then spent a lot of time assisting Sarah pattern cutting. This included a Kids rara skirt, the top half of a little girls dress with lining and a cuff and placket for a woman shirt.
Starting researching blogs and brand competitors.
Researched the difference between a charity and community interest company
Assisted Sarah grade trousers - sizes 10-24.
Me and Lily started putting together a mood board for their new brand - trying to collect ideas together, silhouette, fabric, colour and styling.

Sustainable kids-wear brand. I did some brand competitor research. This was a 5 page document - I have just attached one page for some company discretion. The brand was very pleased and found it very helpful.
I also designed some rein bags for the same brand. These were brightly coloured VW vans and stormtrooper bags. (Again can't attach documents)
