New York Times workers are striking tomorrow for the first time in 44 years.
Tomorrow, December 8th 2022, stay off of the NYT website, don't listen to any of their podcasts, don't play Wordle, nothing

I think for a lot of white people, when you call them out on their casual racism (microagressions and non-overt things), they see it as a case of hurt feelings from your point of view as opposed to a discussion of harmful practices that aid the vehicle of racism. So in response, they take it as a personal attack, rather than a learning experience, and go on the defensive by bringing up a time that you made them upset as leverage. Or they defend their actions by doubling down on the behavior at hand and dismissing your criticism as over sensitivity and emphasizing their “harmless” intent. And I think that is one of the reasons why it’s so hard to address casual and interpersonal racism with the general white population (and also other poc tbh).

disability and class are inherently linked. the disabled are pushed into kind of a permanent underclass. poverty creates chronic illness and chronic illness creates poverty. there is no inherent conflct between the workers' struggle and the struggle against ableism. we are the same people, working through the pain or unable to work and thus plunged into destitution. out of sick days. testing blood sugar in breakrooms or unable to afford gluten free food.

Iran abolishes Morality Police... but not really
So recently news has come out that Iran has abolished the Morality Police. But changing the name means nothing. They are still just as abhorrently violent to protestors, especially women and even children under the age of 15. They are trying to lull the world into a sense of false security. Do not look away.
DO NOT LOOK AWAY, IRAN IS NOT DONE WITH THE OPPRESSORS.

the sooner you understand that the entire united states political system was intended from the very beginning to be conducive to entrenched power and ideological inertia, the sooner you’ll realize the only viable solution is to scrap all of it and rebuild it from the ground up

i can't stop thinking about how critical this moment is where either the workers accept this, opening the door for Congress to supercede unions at a time of growing unionization, or they strike illegally, accelerating the current labor movement. If they do nothing, the economy will likely still crash during the next quarter, union power is effectively disarmed, and the labor movement will be marked as subordinate to electeds. If they strike illegally, the economy could crash instantly, people will see illegal labor movements as effective and powerful and possible, and organized labor will show dominance over Congress.
There's no outcome for their actions that doesn't affect workers rights and our survival under another great recession while fascists seize electoral and vigilante power.
[The US railroad] industry, after all, is fantastically profitable. It has cut its workforce to the bone purely to enrich investors, and doesn’t want to spend the money it would take to staff properly so that its remaining workers could take sick days. Greed, and nothing more. The combined power of the railway unions could overcome this obstacle, but only if they have the ability to go on strike. Railroad companies are not stupid. They knew the White House would intervene to prevent a strike, so they felt no urgency to give in to their workers’ demands. Joe Biden, Mr I-Love-Unions, unilaterally disarmed the unions before their fight could begin. Without a credible strike threat, they never had a chance.

If the ruling class rejects our meager demands, we don't shrink ourselves and say we only want this pleadingly. We say fuck you we now demand more. But to do that we need militant and democratic organisation and not legalistic corporate style unions.
