dance analysis rent
1-      What mood are you aiming to create? Describe the skills you use to create this mood. During this scene we are trying to create the mood of anger at people demanding rent we are also trying to create the mood of concern as we are scared we will be thrown out of our homes and have to go back to normal life we use facial expression and eye contact as well as dynamics to create these moods.
2-      Were you successful in creating the atmosphere for this scene? We were successful in creating the mood in this scene as the audience were very engaged and seemed very involved in the piece. I believe we were successful as we all believed in the moment.
3-      What do you need to do to improve your contribution to this mood? To improve my contribution to the atmosphere I will be using facial expression and dynamics in the way I perform.
4-      What message does the song send to the audience? How do you enhance the message within the dance? What skills do you use to share this message with the audience? What could you do to improve your contribution to this message? This song shows the audience about how bohemians live and about how life was for them in that time. This show how they do not want to pay rent and how they live off nothing it shows the strain community puts on them to conform and how they rebel this is shown by the dynamics and how they are free when they are dancing and being themselves but have to stop during sections as it shows there oppression. We use dynamic to show there freeedom and oppression, we use facial expressions to show the feelings we have towards the community. To improve my contribution to the message I will be very strong in my movements and be exaggerated when dancing to show my love for the bohemian life.
5-      Where does the dance take place? Describe how you show this in the dance. Describe how this effects your movement. This piece is performed everywhere mainly based around the flats and apartment blocks where bohemians square but it could be where ever the bohemians are as they all are in the same position.this is shown in the dance by the freedom to move however also having stairs used for the piece suggests an apparat meant or building. This means that although u perform alone you are also surrounded by people needing each o. Us to have full spacial awareness and therefor not getting in each others way.
6-      Describe how your character feels within the scene. How do you show this in your movement? For example how does this effect your facial expressions and dynamics of the movement. My character is very concerned that she will be thrown from her home this is shown threw her facial expression and how she acts with others this will mean she is very focussed an concerned visually. My character is also very happy about her bohemian life and is strong hearted and enjoys every second of her life an this is shown mainly threw her physicality and how she is happy to dance freely without caring about judgement. My character is also very angry at society for requiring her to pay rent and do what she is told she is bohemian and therefore wishes to be wild and free this is shown more towards the end with her physicality and attitude begin her singing.
7-      Describe three points in your dance which are good and explain why they are effective. My first good point would be the first section where we really get to be our characters and dance around and do as we want as we are bohemian this is effective as it shows the fun and our characters an gives the audience a good example of the true bohemian life. The second good point in the piece that stands out is where we sing “when they act tough, you call there bluff” as this really exaggerates our anger at society and how rebellious we are and how we will push any limit set. The Thor point I would say was strong would be the very en as we are united in our rebellion to not pay rent and we all are showing the true bohemian attitude to develop the sense of a true strong community.
8-      Target three areas of the dance, which need improving. For example timing , facial expressions and dynamics. The first point of improvement is being able to stand still as the smallest movements can make the freeze look unprofessional or unrehearsed and can effect the atmosphere and cause a distraction. The second area of improvement is just to enhance the start and let loose as our character and not be afraid to look silly, this means we need more confidence and strength behind our characters and to be our characters at all time on stage. The Third point of improvement would be doped of getting to the set position and strength an dynamics use during those transitions.

dance analysis contact
1-      What mood are you aiming to create? Describe the skills you use to create this mood.
i am trying to create an erotic mood, in pairs we are sexual with each other we share eye contact showing our relationship. we also are very physically sexual. we show erotic emotions by using facial expression and contentment. i show the emotions threw my eyes and eye contact best as i never loose focus from the emotions and actions i am performing.
2-      Were you successful in creating the atmosphere for this scene?
i am successful in creating this mood and atmosphere as i have received feedback from peers saying you can feel the passion shown between me and my partners.
3-      What do you need to do to improve your contribution to this mood?
i need to maintain my facial expressions while continuing to sing contact.
4-      What message does the song send to the audience? How do you enhance the message within the dance? What skills do you use to share this message with the audience? What could you do to improve your contribution to this message?
this song shows the audience the transferring of aids between roger and mimi and between everyone else in the city and enhances this message by making it a huge event. Showing the magnitude of aids and the transferring of aids. Within the dance there is lots of physical sexual contact, symbolising the transferrin o aids it is also shown by the fluidity of the movements as it shows the contamination and how easily it spreads. To improve my contribution I will be using facial expression and fluidity and strength within the piece. To enhance the message to the audience we use dynamics and stages of tention, this shows how aids effects people as they get more fluid symbolising weakness. We also use facial expression to show the emotion felt in that moment the pleasure threw the face but the knowing they are going to die in the eyes and the eye contact they have with everyone.
5-      Where does the dance take place? Describe how you show this in the dance. Describe how this effects your movement.
this takes place everywhere especially the bedroom at the flat where Mimi and roger are, as it is based from them. it also occurs in alleys and the street and strip clubs and bars, in bathrooms. this is shown by everything starting in different areas showing its not one place and as everyone enters the centre it is showing the end to angels life and then angel apears and sings so he is everywhere aswell as he is dead.
6-      Describe how your character feels within the scene. How do you show this in your movement? For example how does this effect your facial expressions and dynamics of the movement.
the majority of my emotion in this scene is lust and pleasure and passion for what she is doing and between her and her partner. This is shown threw facial expression and her eyes as she Is constantly using eye contact with her partner and the audience, she smiles and her mouth I open a lot showing her pleasure. She moves with passion and fluidity and control showing how this is what she has waited for and the fluidity of her movement shows her enjoyment and pleasure in what she is doing
7-      Describe three points in your dance which are good and explain why they are effective.
the first point on the dance showing strength was the squat chest pump and roll to the side as it looks very effective and and shows passion and fluidity enhancing the feel durin the scene. Our second strength is performing in sequence as we all begin in a seperate stage it look very good on stage as although we all do the same moves in a seperate sequence, this gives the audience a lot to view and draws attention to different places and allows everyone to be scene by the audience. The third section of the dance that was highly effective was where we all began to move in formation and this showed the unity of the city and how aids spreads so easily and how many are infected in proportion.
8-      Target three areas of the dance, which need improving. For example timing , facial expressions and dynamics. Timing on the section where we all move together needs improving as some begin on the wrong foot and then cannot perform correctly without timing going wrong. The second improvement needs to be everyone being able to sing and dance at the same. As the choreography looks good however when singing is put with it the choreography looks in rehearsed. The third improvement needs to be dynamics as some moves are very fluid and some are sharp so there needs to be that defining dynamic to make it look the most effective.

dance analysis on the street
1-      What mood are you aiming to create? Describe the skills you use to create this mood.
i aim to create shock when i burst out at mark and angel for defending me from the police, pity for myself from the audience and other characters as i am in fear for my life and i require help as i am helpless and in danger, fear as i am going to be beaten by the police because i am not fast enough to run away or strong enough to fight back and anger. i have used facial expression and physicality and gestures to influence the audience to feel the mood i am setting.
2-      Were you successful in creating the atmosphere for this scene?
i am successful when creating these moods as my facial expressions are pleading with the audience to, pity and fear for me also my reactions encourage pity and to feel the need to help protect me.
3-      What do you need to do to improve your contribution to this mood?
to improve my contribution to the mood set for this scene making more facial exaggeration and enhancing the mood by actually feeling the emotions and fear within my character more obviously.
4-      What message does the song send to the audience? How do you enhance the message within the dance? What skills do you use to share this message with the audience? What could you do to improve your contribution to this message?
this shows the hate the homeless have for bohemians as they have families who will help them but they choose to live this way where as the homeless are unable to save themselves and are left stranded with no support. this also shows how the homeless are treated because they are trying to survive. the movement in it shows how the police will beat homeless as they are above the law the movements to try to defend herself shows the homeless getting singled out and how they are looked down on and not helped just hurt further. i use facial expressions and gestures to enhance this for the audience to show the effects and what is caused by the society in america at this time. i could improve my conribution to this by reacting more to the police and showing more fear threw facial expression.
5-      Where does the dance take place? Describe how you show this in the dance. Describe how this effects your movement.
the scene takes place on the street in the ‘small tent lot’ outside the flat at the road side  the tables are used as a bench and cars pass by and we have to dodge them because they hate us and the sound effects and reactions to the sound effects show our location. this means we have to be very cautious as to how far forward we go to still avoid the road.
6-      Describe how your character feels within the scene. How do you show this in your movement? For example how does this effect your facial expressions and dynamics of the movement.
my character is the homeless woman who is scared when the police attack her and scared of normal population so she turns angry towards mark and angel as they defend her which she  believes will get her beaten worse next time they move her on as the police will remember them defending her. she has her fists clenched and jaw locked showing her anger and she is very small tucked up when scared as she wants to be as small as possible to defend herself so she doesn't get hurt as bad. this effects my facial expression as i show my emotions threw my face, it also shows that i am confused as to why they are helping me as the only people who have ever helped me before have abused or injured me after so i am scared of them but also furious because they can escape there lives but i can not. i am very tense and quick at trying to dodge hits but not fast enough.
7-      Describe three points in your dance which are good and explain why they are effective.
when i am on the table and getting beaten it is very good part to show emotion and to set the mood, the music also influences this mood. this looks highly effective to an audience as they begin to feel for the homeless woman.
the second point would be when the police are leaving and i am coming to terms with the idea a bohemian has saved me and my friend from being injured but how much i hate them for it developing the anger within the scene and changing the mood for the audience.
the third point would be right at the exit where my character is pleading for more help and for change where she is thinking he could help her by giving some money instead and then is defeated when he has nothing causing the audience to feel pity again.
8-      Target three areas of the dance, which need improving. For example timing , facial expressions and dynamics. List and describe the moments you need to work on and film yourself improving these areas.
timing on movement needs to be improved so it looks more effective.
facial expressions need to be more obvious so they make more of an impact on the audience.
the whole scene needs to more forward and realistic.

textual analysis pt 1 rent
8. How wealthy are the characters?
there are many homeless people and people who squat in housing apartments illegally or like mark they just haven’t paid for a while and continue to live in there flats, the majority of these squatters choose to be so like mark as he has his mother to support him if needed. where as the homeless people have nobody to support them therefore if moved on, have no where to go so end up sleeping on the streets or finding another place to squat. However there are exceptions such as Joanne and her family of mrs. Jefferson and mr. Jefferson who are lawyers and high paid ones, these are the hierarchy to all as they live the lifestyle which is seen as bad to the bohemians as they pay tax and for everything they need. Also the agent who wants to hire mark is also quite wealthy. Benny and his investors are the most wealthy out of the production, they are the top hierarchy as well as the jeffersons and they buy building and create modernising ideas which are detested by the bohemians and homeless as they are seen as advancing too far into the future and modernisation such as internet was limmited and benny wants to make it easily accesible which is seen as silly or unneeded so the bohemians would often riot against the new creations to benefit the hierarchy as they believed in doing everything for themselves and creating things only to benefit them selves or the small population.
9. Is there a hierarchy?
there are several layers of hierarchy. the top of the chain is the most wealthy, law abiding, educated citizens such as benny, the jefferson family or the investers that are being rioted against by the bohemiens. they control the power and money and employ who ever they need to do there work.the cops the people that they do employ are the next stage of the hierarchy. they belive in the wealth and power being all that matters so they will willingly do the work they are set. this includes there sons and daughters such as mark and mourean who are two of the main charactors however mourean and mark are of less power than the police or goverment appointed staff as they follow the bohemien lifestyle the next stage down on the hierarchy are the bohemiens squaters as they have support to back them up usualy and are usualy able to get out of trouble as they have connections. the lowest on the hierarchy chain are the homeless people as they have no rights no support and no means of living other than begging. this means they also begin to dispise bohemiens aspecialy mark as they have noone to help them and feel used by futher up on the hierarchy they generaly hate society as noone is willing to help them.
10. How does their wealth or lack of it affect them?
those at the top of the hierarchy like mr and mrs jefferson are able to live as they please as they have wealth power and status therefor are respected this means they are very confident and are able to do anything they please without boundery or fear. the nest stage down on the hierarchy such as the police are also able to live as they wish however they have alot of restrictions but are usualy unsupervised so restrictions can be broken. mourean and marks stage of the hierarchy are able to do as they wish without bounderies however live in fear as they can be abused by the law and have not many legal standings so rely on family futher up the hierarchy to support them. the homless with no money or support are left to fend for themselves and are hated and abused by the wealthier and more powerfull they become bitter and twisted and fearfull having to hide from everyone above there stature.
11. What are the social environments of the characters like?
the social enviroment of the wealthy and powerful people is very much like the modern day working class, hard working with good homes able to get any work they need me make enough money to support them selves and extra and be able to help others however they choose not to as people bellow them are not as worthy of money and power so they maintain the highest stature and power and wealth and employ those of slight less fortune to do their work such as the police to move on the homeless as they are disgusting to the highest people so they need to be removed, this allows the police to be the next stage of hierarchy as they control society under orders to keep everyone in there place. And remove any issues for the wealthier than themselves. The living conditions are good for the most powerful and decrease as the money and standard of life is declining. At the opposite side of the hierarchy the homeless people people live in poor conditions hated by everybody and no help offered to them as they are filth compared to those higher.
12. Are their differences in the social backgrounds and current environments?
mark and mini grew up at the top of the hierarchy and chose to become bohemians and to squat. The homeless people also will have grown up in a higher rank of the hierarchy so will have been used to being able to get what they needed but now have nothing as sue mustangs changed against the favour however they can do nothing against it so they will have to continue living in ther social environment being threaten the way they are. Almost all of the Characters will have grown up in wealth and able to afford what they needed and have chose there current lifestyle so are able usually to get themselves out of the trouble they are in. The only people who are stuck in the lifestyle and social environment is the homeless people as they cannot get help as no one is willing to help them continue there life or get back up to a reasonable standard of living.
13. How will this affect how the characters will interact with one another?
those in the wealthier part of the hierarchy will want to stay in contact with the children such as the majority of the bohemians to help them however they employ people to abuse and hurt rioters and homeless as they want cleaner streets, they them selves would be very disapproving and would detest what there children are doing as they no the effect it would cause and damage that could be done. Joanne’s parents would be very disapproving of her actions as they payed for her education and got her the job of a lawyer and she is very successful but is in love with Maureen who is bohemian and they are seen as lower class and not as powerful and undermined by the hierarchy, as they feel the lifestyle is destructive and unacceptable so they do not like the fact she is fraternising with Maureen as they want her to succeed with her job as a lawyer and not undermine herself and her potential. The homeless people hate the hierarchy as they have power over them however hate bohemians even more as they have an escape and yet choose to live squatting or with nothing so they are taking how homeless live and making it a joke. Therefore may be very violent with the bohemians.
15. What effect does this have on the way the characters behave?
the homeless are constantly getting used and abused and are the targets of the top of the hierarchy as they are not wanted on the street but ate not offered any help to get off the street, so are forced to continue to live the way they live being abused, hit or moved on constantly and have there freedom taken away from the and never being able to get what they require as they are given no rights, the bohemians rioted against there parents and the top of the hierarchy as they believe this to be very unfair and wrong both morally and literally. These riots are going on threw out the production when it is set. Maureen is especially included in the riots as she works to influence the people to riot or protested holds protests herself. Joanne will be included as she will take on cases for both sides of the riot and will often win her battles for the defendant. Benny and his investors are at the heart of the riots as they are closing down the flats where there are squatters and homeless people live so the bohemians riot against them also.
16. What clues are there to the past lives of the characters? Joanne clearly comes from wealth and a good background but was always pushed by her family to become a lawyer and a high paid one, she is very good at her job of a lawyer but she does not enjoy it as much as she enjoys spending time with Maureen. Maureen and mark are from working class backgrounds and have always relied on there parents before now and are trying to become independent.
17. How will their past affect their futures?
mark is able to do as he pleases as it Maureen as they have the safety that there parents will bail them out Of whatever they got themselves in to. This means that Maureen and mark can do as they wish and never have serious concerns, Joanne’s parent will support her if she needs support but with be very reluctant as she has done this to her self. Homeless people are unable to support themselves and there future is set as no one will help them so they will squat and live on the streets for the remainder of there lives. They are unable to get medical help so will live in agony until death. They will continue to live in fear and pain.
19. Do any of the characters carry scars or memories from past events? meme carries many scars from her drug abusing and being beaten, she remembers the Spanish baby’s crying of her homeland. All the druggies have needle scars. Angel has memories of being in his home country before he got To America.
20. How does this affect them now?
meme is untrusting and is addicted to drugs she doesn’t know what is right and wrong all the time so she does make mistakes and she believes she is only worth her body but is in love with roger. Roger is scarred by the memories of his ex killing herself because she gave him AIDS.
21. Are their conflicts of tension between what the characters want?
there is tension between roger and mark because mark wants fame and fortune and roger just wants to do something he will be remembered for before he dies.

Contingency plan
We have been bag packing and raised money by giving out flyers and and people who have taken flyers are likely to have bought tickets for the show. We also raised awareness. We are unable to get arts founding as it is a college funded and this is unsupported by this funding agency. However instead we have raised money by bag packing and collecting in collection buckets to raise money for our show and our chosen charity. For collecting for the lgbt community they have been advertising our show for free. We have done concerts to allow us to raise money and raise out ticket sales for the production this allowed us to also to raise awareness. We are going to do a car washing service meaning we will have to buy or borrow buckets and sponges and water and car soap to allow u to be able to wash cars we will give an estimate of 50 people at £3 minus what it costs for the equipment and we will put the profit towards the cost for the show. We will have to find a location possibly at the front of college and print posters to advertise the car wash by an inkind supporter we will also have to do it on a sunny day. We are going to do a flash mob and have collection buckets out to collect for the show. This will be advertising and we can have people leafleting to advertise and show and raise awareness of how to get tickets. We have inkind supporters who have borrowed or bought us costume and props and also have given us free advertising increasing ticket sales.

song analysis - on the street
1-      Make a copy of the lyrics to the song and enlarge
Three homeless people: Christmas Bells Are Ringing Christmas Bells Are Ringing Christmas Bells Are Ringing - Out Of Town Santa Fe
Squeegieman: Honest Living, Man! Feliz Navidad! Homeless person: Evening, Officers Mark: Smile For Ted Koppel, Officer Martin! Collins: And a Merry Christmas to your families Cops: Right!! Blanket person: Who The fuck Do You Think You Think You Are? I Don’t Need Any Goddamn Help From Some Bleeding Heart Cameraman My Life’s Not For You To Make A Name For Yourself On! Angel: Easy Sugar, Easy He Was Just Trying To– Blanket person: Just Trying To Use Me To Kill His Guilt It’s Not That Kind Of Movie, Honey Let’s Go - This Lot Is Full Of Motherfucking Artists Hey Artist You Gotta Dollar? I Thought Not
2- What is the song about? Describe the scene. What happened before this scene to lead to the moment?
this song is about mark trying to aid a homeless person and make himself a hero but also about how the homeless disapprove of the bohemians as they can escape to wealthy families. marks character has begun to shoot his film and just come from the support group he accidentally walked into so he is experiencing there lives and becomes slightly more sympathetic toward the homeless and less fortunate and therefore begins to feel the need to protect the homeless more he also sees the opportunity to improve his film by showing the injustice done to homeless and more of the bohemian life. also he sees the opportunity to make himself feel a lot better about himself and reduce his guilt he feels for being wealthier than them. my character has become irritable and has been physically abused by the police several times so fears them a lot, however has been helped in the past by a wealthy man who was a bohemian when she tried to sleep in the ally, who then said she owed him for his help and sexually abused her and therefore she has become a more hardened person to anything physically hurting her as she has learned to trust no-one except her friend who takes shift watching for the police so they each can sleep safely. i imagine this woman to also have been sexually abused in the past so she is very hardened and toughened to life. they rely on each other to stay safe by using a call, however this is too late this time as the police took a back ally she could not see. my character of the homeless woman is therefore extremely volatile when anyone tries to protect her as she doesn't trust and therefore fights anybody who attempts to help. she is already in a bad mood which is shown at the beginning of the song by ‘Christmas bells are ringing….. out of town Santa Fe’ as she is angry because they get nothing and disrespected and abused and are not ever able to protect themselves enough to have a good Christmas.  therefore when mark tries to help her she is terrified more than she shows but she portrays physical anger to not show her fear as if she does then she would probably be abused again, so instead defends her self to the best of her ability and calls for her friend so they can move as she doesn't want to be filmed being weak and doesn't want to be the subject of someone else’s wealth, when she is deprived of everything herself. she hates bohemians because of there abuse towards her even tho it was an isolated incident so hates mark and angel and anyone who passes with any form of wealth. she hates them also because they have an escape as they have parents who they can return to or some wealth to help them get by whereas she has to root in bins or threw bags that are left as litter to find her next meal. she has to sleep on the streets and is deprived of that as she is moved every time she gets a few minutes of rest, she doesn't have a shelter. she has no belongings other than what she can carry and even then she has to be aware so no one mugs her.
3- What is the purpose of this song?
this song is there to show how little help mark gets from his friends and how alone he feels, and how that compares to actual homeless people who are alone, with no support or help.
4- Where does the song take place? How does this affect your singing, movement? i.e in a car
this song takes place on a back alley car park, a ‘lot’. where the homeless would gather to find shelter or warmth or just a small area to stay and rest without being moved along. my character of the homeless woman has been moved on all night by police and has not been able to get any sleep.
5- Who are you singing to?
I am singing to mark as he has tried to defend and protect me and I am a strong individual who hates people who choose to squat as they can return home in times of need however as a homeless woman I am unable to be helped by anyone. i hate mark because he is a bohemian and my past was tortured by a bohemian so i have become very outraged by their proximity and also i do not like mark as he is using me to fill his pockets with money where he has a home he can return to if he wishes whereas i only have what i own and can carry in these bags i clutch so hard. i also think that mark or angel may abuse, torture or rob me of my valued possessions that remain.
6- Who or what are you singing about?
i am singing about how he has no right to protect me, and how mark also shouldn't be a cameraman he should be either with his family living a good life or should be on the street, displaying how much i hate bohemians and how my life is not to be put on screen and should just be for me and how i hate mark for using me and my story to benefit himself and get a name from. i am also singing about how him defending me is wrong and he is just using me to develop his name and kill his guilt. meaning him making himself a hero by saving me shouldn't be done as he is only thinking of himself and not me who actually lives this life permanently.
7- How do you feel during the song? Plot how the emotions change on your lyrics.
Three homeless people: Christmas Bells Are Ringing (exhausted, bored, angry, sarcastic)
Christmas Bells Are Ringing Christmas Bells Are Ringing Out Of Town (furious)
Santa Fe
Squeegieman: Honest Living, Man! Feliz Navidad! (Scared, threatened)
Homeless person: Evening, Officers (pained, fear, tired) Mark: Smile For Ted Koppel, Officer Martin! (Angry, scared)
homeless man: And a Merry Christmas to your families
Cops: Right!! (Relieved, and angry)
Blanket person: Who The fuck Do You Think You Think You Are?(furious, angry, tired, annoyed, thankfull)
I Don’t Need Any Goddamn Help From Some Bleeding Heart Cameraman (disapproving)
My Life’s Not For You To Make A Name For Yourself On! (Angry)
Angel: Easy Sugar, Easy He Was Just Trying To- (annoyed, angry, weak)
Blanket person: Just Trying To Use Me To Kill His Guilt (anger, hatred, tired)
It’s Not That Kind Of Movie, Honey
Let’s Go - This Lot Is Full Of Motherfucking Artists
Hey Artist (hopefully)
You Gotta Dollar?
I Thought Not (disappointed and angry)
8- What are the inner/outer feelings of the character in the song?
the inner feelings of my character here is mainly fear and hatred as she has had bad experiences and therefore defends herself only or her friend who is in the same position. my character fears for her life as she is homeless with aids and cannot get help like everyone else as she is homeless and gets no money for treatment and she cannot make the most of her life as she cant do anything as she has no money no where to live and all she feels is that she is going to die so just wanting to sleep eat and that is all her goals as she has no better ideas as she cannot afford to die in peace. however all she does is portray anger on the outside and some moments of fear and desperation as she cannot defend herself from police or anyone all she can do is run and hide and try and sleep.
9- What facial expressions will you use to show what your characters are thinking or feeling in the song?
i will physically show pain threw my face when i am getting hit and woken by the police as they try to move me on, i will show anger threw having a tense jaw and keepin my words sharp and spitting my words at him i will also use my eyebrows being furrowed to show my pain and anger and upset at trying to be strong physically when my eyes will show my inner emotions.
10- What gestures will you use to show what your character is thinking or feeling in the song?
i will have clenched fists and with cower into the fetal position to show my fear and pain physically. i will also be slightly forward to show my anger however i am still weak so will be slow but with hunch slightly to make me lower than mark to show stature, i will hold onto my belongings so i know no one can steal them. i will be on edge but will just show pure anger towards mark and angel as in honesty i fear them.

tune up b in depth
during rent i am a rocker i have looked into my character and found she is very masculine and is very strong and robs people to make a living for herself her and her friend rely on one another to tag team there victim as they wouldn't be strong enough on there own. they split the profit between them and enjoy what they have to do as they believe they are above the law. everyone else is not worth there time they are thugs, addicted to cocaine they rob people to be able to buy what they need to survive which in this case is there food when they need to eat and there drugs so they can go on living in this depressing era. they sell whatever they steal to the vendors who are in the outdoor market. that way they get the money they need and the vendor gets something to sell to make more money.

on the street in depth.
my character of the homeless woman has been moved on all night by police and has not been able to get any sleep. my character has become irritable and has been physically abused by the pol,ice several times so fears them alot, however has been helped in the past by a wealthy man who was a bohemian when she tried to sleep in the ally, who then said she owed him for his help and sexually abused her and therefore she has become a more hardened person to anything physically hurting her as she has learned to trust no-one except her friend who takes shift watching for the police so they each can sleep safely. i imagine this woman to also have been sexually abused in the past so she is very hardened and toughened to life. they rely on each other to stay safe by using a call, however this is too late this time as the police took a back ally she could not see. my character of the homeless woman is therefore extremely volitile when anyone tries to protect her as she doesnt trust and therefore fights anybody who attempts to help. she is already in a bad mood which is shown at the beggining of the song by christmas bells are ringing..... out of town santa fe as she is angry because they get nothing and disrespected and abused and are not ever able to protect themselves enough to have a good christmas.  therefore when mark tries to help her she is terrified more than she shows but she portrays physical anger to not show her fear as if she does then she would probably be abused again, so instead defends her self to the best of her ability and calls for her friend so they can move as she doesnt want to be filmed being weak and doesnt want to be the subject of someone elses wealth, when she is deprived of everything herself. she hates bohemians because of there abuse towards her even tho it was an isolated insident so hates mark and angel and anyone who passes with any form of wealth. she hates them also because they have an escape as they have parents who they can return to or some wealth to help them get by whereas she has to root in bins or threw bags that are left as litter to find her next meal. she has to sleep on the streets and is deprived of that as she is moved every time she gets a few minutes of rest, she doesnt have a shelter. she has no belongings other than what she can carry and even then she has to be aware so no one mugs her.

What did you do to warm up your voice today? Describe your rehearsal, performance and the progress you have made here.
we began with a full physical warm up and then a vocal warm up to make us relaxed and prepared to sing, we did the relaxing excercise of pushing all stress out I our shoulders and arms. We have to relax because else our larynx muscles and your vocal chords are too tense and this would mean we could strain our voices and strain the muscles we use in singing, this also ensure we have a strong and clear voice when singing. We begin with rolling our shoulder and then our elbow then our full arms. This loosens up our shoulders and arms. We use this to allow us to be able to anchor to hold our higher notes and allow them to be stronger. We next shrugg to release any remaining tention. We then move onto stretching our back and neck as this allows us to hold the correct posture for singing. This keeps the body in line. We then warm up our jaw and face and tongue because the jaw need to be relaxe for us to be able to sing correctly. The mouth and tongue need to be warmed up so we can have proper diction and clarity while singing. Now we are physically warmed up we moved on to breathing. We began the excercise stood up as I believe we have developed the skill enough to start stood. Again we inhale for four, held for four, then exhaled in increasing amounts ending on 20. We then went onto the vocal warm up and we began by humming up the octaves to gently stretch the larynx and warm up our vocal chords. We then added the ahh sound to begin to use our vocal chords more and continue to stretch our larynx. We do this excercise up and down the scale. This also is to ensure we are breathing from our diaghram. While humming we ensure to slide up the notes as this also stretches the vocal chords and larynx and enables us to be fully prepared to sing and add actuall vocals with the ahh sound. We then moved onto the five note scale using NGO, ma, na and ooh. This allows us to continue to warm up the tongue and we can also put consenents in to help diction. We continued the NG excercise this week as it allows us to dee lip our chest voice and allows us to reach higher notes in our chest voice. We were put into pair so we could give peer feedback showing Georgii that we were able to understand what we were doing wrong and also so we can demonstrate we knew what others were doing wrong so we could assist them with feedback. We also learnt some more phrases called shine on me, we learned this then developed Gloria, and I like the flowers. The new one was good as it had different dynamics within it, which meant that it was pushing us as we had more things to think about. We then sang bye bye blackbird as this is in our Cabernet show and we rehearsed who was singing each section and adding dynamics such as sections where we are loud and where it can build so we kept the audience engaged. We then sang threw gay or europian and ensured we all had the correct sheet music so we could begin to write our dynamics on to help us remember when we rehearse it at home. Such as pianisimo>metzo forte meaning quite to quite loud. We then worked on these dynamics and our movement which will make our piece and performance look professional and well rehearsed.
What was your feedback today?
the only feedback I gained today was peer feedback on our NG excercise. As I was told that I have a good twang and it is the correct sound, also that my breathing was correct meaning from my diaghram. I was told that I needed to keep my jaw open wider and that I needed to ensure my jaw was still constantly. I was also told to push the sound to my frontal pallet as this will stop the sound sounding nasally. This will aid my projection an also my ability to reach higher notes in my chest voice.
What exercises and songs do you plan to rehearse at home to help you improve your vocal technique?
Please be specific and record your exercises as evidence of improving technique I am going to work on my diction by doing tongue twister an trying to sing tong twisters this will allow me better diction during the songs I sing and make my voice clearer. I also am going to practice the NG sound excercise to try and improve my range in my chest voice and strengthen my chest voice. I will continue practicing scales as this will help my range in my higher range more also. I will be singing the scales using different sounds such as ooh, ah and consonants such as na, la, ca, ma, and me to help me get as high an as low as possible. I will also be rehearsing my intervals to help me know note jumps in songs better and enable me to hit them correctly with little thaught.
To do list – (this may involve bringing in CD’s, Burning CD’s, Printing lyrics etc.)
- continue practicing NG

- work on intervals

- rehearse gay or European and seasons of love and bye bye blackbird getting the harmonies correct.

singing blog 5
1. What did you do to warm up your voice today? Describe the tasks set for the session.
we began the lesson as usual by doing a physical warm up. We do this to relax and enable our selves to sing to the best of our ability. We begin by rolling our shoulders forward and backward and progressing down the arms to the elbows then the wrists and then the full arms to loosen up and relax. The arms are important for anchoring to hit higher notes. We then progressed to shrugging our shoulders and heavily exhaling. This allows the release of any remaining tension and also allows to relax the throat. We then stretch out our backs so we can maintain the correct posture for singing. We then did our breathing excercise. We do this exercise each week to develop our breath capacity as this is a major factor of singing. This will also improve our breathing from our diaghram. We do this exercise lay down on the floor to begin to ensure we are breathing from our diaghram and unable to move our shoulders eliminating breathing from our chest to be possible, we then do the same lay down so we get used to being able to singing from our diaghram without having to lay down.
The next excercise we did was to begin vocally warming up. We began gently warming our voices by humming, and began to stretch our voices by humming to singing get in thirds. We then began to sing gently and gradually got louder doing scales. We do these to ensure we are are breathing correctly and so not to strain our voices. We then did the NG sound excercise. This is very important as it helps to improve and strengthen your chest voice. We each individually sang the no exercise so we could gain individual feedback to help us improve and correct any issues. The last thing that we did was gay or European, we leave this to last so we are using all the correct techniques and are fully prepared to be able to sing to the best of our ability.

2. Describe your rehearsal, performance and the progress you have made here.
We made a lot of progress this week. I personally think that as a whole our breathing is getting a lot better, and therefore we are becoming more technically correct when singing. we have improved on the ng technique and peoples confidence has improved as we all now are able to sing infront of eachother which is a major improvement if we reflect on the first week. We also showed lots of development within our Legally Blonde song.i believe we have begun to add layers to our performance improving the dynamics and engaging the audience more. we each have developed our characterisation.
3. What was your feedback today from your tutor and peers? Most of my feedback was from when we did the NG exercise on our own. We sung through the scale on thirds singing ‘NG’. I was told that I had good breathing from my diaphragm; however, I needed to make sure that I slide the notes more instead of jumping from one note to another. I had good projection within the exercise, however, I need to start making more of a conscious effort to open my jaw more and use my frontal pallet.
4. What exercises and songs do you plan to rehearse at home to help you to improve your vocal technique?

i am going to rehearse my 5 note scales and sing them using sounds such as ‘oo’ and ‘aa’ and ‘na’. this will help me to reach higher notes and also to improve my vocal ability. i will also rehearse note intervals and get somebody to test me and test my memory of the ways we have learned to remember them. i will also be rehearsing my breath control and and trying to increase my breath capacity to improve my singing.
5. Create yourself a ‘to do’ list. - put my music in a folder and annotate it

- work on singing intervals

- complete second skills audit
6. Set yourself three S.M.A.R.T. targets for next week’s lesson.

Vocal Range

S- i am going to work on my vocal range to increase my range and increase my chances of being considered for professional roles.
M- i will be able to increase my range with alot of practice. i will also be able to develop my chest voice and make myself more comfortable in my higher range.

A- i believe this is very possible to achieve with the techniques i have learned in lesson although it will take a fair amount of time and be a continually improving skill.

R- this target is relevent because as a singer it is required to be able to sing whatever is required. it also will benefit me to get new jobs in the future.
T- i wish to see some improvement before my last vocal range test.
Breathing

S- i am going to work on improving my breath control

M- this will allow me to be able to hold notes longer and be able to control, how much air i am using and learn when to breath and how much air i need to breath in. this will help me to be able to sing notes for a longer length and will allow me better abilities and allow me to know when i will need to breath
A-  this will be achievable and will take time to accomplish, however it will require a lot of rehearsing and practice
R- this is relevant as it will allow me to be able to hold notes longer and be able to control, how much air i am using and learn when to breath and how much air i need to breath in. this will help me to be able to sing notes for a longer length and will allow me better abilities and allow me to know when i will need to breath
T- this will take a while and will be an ongoing skill so i will hope to see a improvement by next week
keeping my jaw still
S- i am going to work on keeping my jaw still when i am singing notes.

M- if i achieve this, this will benefit the strength and clarity of the notes. it will also improve the tension in my jaw.

A- this is achievable as it is a bad habit and can be fixed with time practice and effort.

R- this is relevant because i will require this in the future to be able to clearly hold notes and be able to work better on songs i am given without faltering on notes.

T- i hope to be able to achieve this for next week.
