I didn't expect this to resonate with so many of you guys. To be fair, isolation and and being outed as the other is so maddingly present in many people's childhoods. I wish it weren't, but it is.
I've always wanted to make a comic or a drawing that expressed something like this, but I never got around to it up till now because I thought it would be too cringe. I'm glad I did it anyway, I think I needed to let it out into the world so I can move on.
As far as I remember, I always knew I was some form of annoying. I talked too loud, I got too excited over things, I express myself way too loud. But I never thought of intentionally causing hurt. I from a very young age already had the core belief that I must be a good person, do good things, and always try to be kind. I might not have done most things kindly, but I tried. I think this backfired alot because I never fought back, never said anything. My parents were not aware of all incidents in the comic until I was 18+ and told it as a funny story. It wasn't their fault. Their daughter just had a very convoluted thinking at the time.
Now I let myself be a little meaner if it meant getting myself from getting taken advantage of. I wish I could tell my younger self to be a little meaner too.
Thank you so much for reading it! Thank you for sharing a part of yourself, even if it was scary to share! Thank you for telling me to hope, and that it will be okay. It will be okay! We'll grow, we'll learn, we'll still want and that's beautiful.
If there's anything I want to say, it's that I love you. I love the past you that tried. The you that wants to change. The you that has accepted your past. The you that struggles with accepting your past. All of it was you, then and now, and the you then and now was and is trying their best. Look forward. Dream of better. One day, I hope you can look at yourself in the mirror and think "I like this person".
