Here’s your reminder that it’s the week leading up to a holiday and to be kind to the retail workers who are trying their best to make sure you have everything you need.

Sometimes it sucks walking into work and seeing people who have less seniority than me clocked in before me… but because each “role” is scheduled by seniority and I’m confined at the service desk that they refuse to let me leave, I get these shit shifts.

Forever thinking about the coworker I had years ago that would steal money from their till and then directly deposit into their bank account using the ATM INSIDE of our store like there weren’t hundreds of cameras watching their every move.

Me: *literally has the register taken apart and is deep cleaning it*
Customers: Are you open

One thing about me is that I’m going to stand up for my coworkers when it’s necessary to do so.

*coworker using a Zebra to sort returns into proper bins*
Old man: what? you’re not working today?
Coworker: oh no, not on the register at the moment
Old man: yeah because you’re too fucking busy being on your phone
Me, now angry at this customer: THAT IS NOT A PHONE AND SHE IS SCANNING FOR ITEM LOCATIONS AND DOING HER JO
Get the fuck out of here with your immediate nasty attitude. I was so tempted to send this man away and have him redeem his bottle return slips elsewhere since it can be done at literally any register and doesn’t have to specifically be the service desk. I don’t understand what it is with the elderly thinking that the way to customer service is to bully the ones who are going to provide them with said service. It’s not.

Thank you to all of the customers today who defended me and all of the customers who offered to let a disgruntled one to cut them in line so I could help her first.
Also disgruntled old woman: I am so sick and tired of you pulling this same BS every week and thinking you are more entitled to service before the line of people in front of you. 🙃 Cutting a line of people and yelling over them that you want me to call a manager isn’t going to make me call one any faster because you can at least be patient enough for me to help the person I’m currently helping.
“She needs to do her job” you tell the line as I tell you to wait a moment. “She is because she’s helping that person” they tell you. 😂 I thank those people. I am also surprised they wanted to let you go first because you did not deserve it.

Reminder that you do not owe your life to your job. You do not have to feel guilty for taking time off. You do not owe anyone an explanation as to why you wanted a day off, nor do you owe anyone an explanation as to why you refused to come in on your day off when asked.

You know… if you choose to answer the phone and have a conversation with that person instead of me… the one assisting you… I don’t know if you to be upset that your item wasn’t returned in the form of payment you wanted.
Also: returns are processed in their original form of payment. You paid with a card? The money is going back to your card. There is no argument to be had.

Manager logic: the self checkout line is backed up! Everyone register trained in the store get on and everyone else come bag for them NOW! 😠
The registers: totally fine, not backed up, no need for more to be opened at the time
Take time to assess what is actually going on, especially if you’re not even the customer service area manager. People at self checkout want to be there. Our self checkout forces people (and their families) into a single file line that doesn’t accurately represent how “busy” it is. If our cashier manned lanes aren’t backed up and your reasoning is “the self checkout ones are, open more registers”… how does that even make sense?

I don’t know why I feel like so many people have to try to prove that they didn’t read a sale sign wrong these days.
“I’m a vendor that works here. I’m not stupid. I know how to read signs.”
“I went to college. I know how to read a sale sign. I want my money back!”
Oddly enough in both instances, they did not read the sale sign correctly. 😬 Are you trying to insinuate that you’re somehow smarter than me because I work in the service industry? Newsflash: a lot of us are also people who have higher education degrees, but we’re not going to throw that out there.

I work as a brand ambassador for an local distillery. I work their events where I sometimes bartend, other events I sell their products. A week before Christmas I had this lady give me $100 bill so I was trying to find change since she was my first customer. Technically I only take card but she didn't wanna hear that. So I gave her change back which was like $70. She told me to put my hand out bc she wanted to tip me. NO LIE... she hands me a penny and says " that's all you deserve" 🫣
I've never had someone do that.
You’ve kind of made me want to go off and fight someone right now. 😬

Genuinely curious
Is there anywhere where you can return your gift cards to?
I don’t know why people always seem upset when they come in trying to refund/exchange a gift card. It’s just… not a thing in my eyes. I feel like they’re final sale most places. Who’s going to let you return a gift card that they can’t resell to someone else.

“You mean it’s not an even exchange?”
Well, you got an entirely different item that costs more…so no.

Yelled at a customer who was yelling at another customer who had to address a package they were mailing off to someone who just lost their child the other day.
It’s the holidays. It’s busy. I don’t give a f*ck who you think you are and if you think you deserve help before the person I’m currently helping. You’re not going to stand there and make someone feel bad for taking two minutes to address an envelope and your response of “that’s not my problem, I have places to be” when they told you someone died… you’re disgusting.
I’m not sorry for yelling back at you.
I’m not sorry for upsetting you.
Be a better human.
