> tell her you vanquished a boar
“I defeated a boar today,” you tell her.
“Really?” she says. “Was it a big one?”
“It was of a normal size,” you say, “but it was a formidable foe.”
“Wow,” she says. Then: “I saw some boars earlier today. They were really tiny.”
“Did you defeat them?”
“No point. They weren't the kind with mushrooms on them.”
She wipes her face. Her hands come away sticky.
“Also,” she mumbles, “even the small ones look really scary.”
“Scary?” you ask.
She looks at you. There is something pleading in her eyes.
“Tell me... Am I a bad adventurer?”
(first | previous | #untitled shenhe game)
You blink sympathetically. It is unclear whether the woman in green notices.
She sniffles again. An infection?
You check her forehead temperature. She is not feverish.
> ask whether she is sniffling because of allergies or because of crying
“You sound congested,” you say. “Do you perhaps have allergies? Are you crying?”
“I... I'm not crying right now,” she says.
A clever evasion. But you will not be fooled.
“Were you crying earlier?” you ask.
The woman buries her face in her arms and nods. “Yes,” she mumbles. “I was. I've been having a really awful day and I got sad. Is that so bad? Even adventurers in books get sad sometimes.”
Ah. It seems she feels ashamed for crying.
“It is not bad,” you reassure her. Thinking back to the lessons Master taught you in your youth, you continue: “There is no shame in having strong emotions. It is only our response to such emotions that ought be judged.”
The woman nods slowly. “I guess...”
“Did your strong emotions cause the maiming of innocents?” you ask.
“What!? No...”
“Did they cause you to disrupt a master artisan deep in thought?”
“Uh...” She blinks. “I don't think so...?”
“Then do not feel bad for crying,” you say.
She parts her lips as if to say something, but no sound escapes them. Instead, tears well up in her eyes.
A minute later, she begins to sob freely.
After a while, the woman looks up at you.
“I'm sorry,” she says. “I'm just complaining and complaining and... What about you? Are you okay? How are you?”

#love that maiming innocents and disrupting cloud retainer are offenses of the same severity XD
One takes umbrage at your hyperbole! One's disciple knows full well that maiming innocents is at least fifty percent worse.

I'm pretty resolved to draw all the major lesbian ships from Genshin because I like drawing women lol. This time it's Jean and Lisa because that's the time of the year baby! Mondstadt is for spring ~

One trap that All the Time Daydreamers, Sometimes Writers, fall into is this idea that writing is transcribing the daydream.
It's not. The daydream is a fuzzy thing. There are gaps that you don't need to fill in a daydream, because you already get the emotional point. A lot of it is emotion. And because it makes you feel like a complete story would, your brain is tricked into thinking that's what you have.
Then you sit down to actually write the thing and you realize you're trying to write a Space Opera without actually inventing any planets or space ships. You don't even know if the characters start out on the same planet. If they're on a planet at all. You didn't bother to check.
Now you will vaguely reference this in first-second person in any writing guide you make up for the rest of time.
When you write, you're building something. It's not a pale imitation of what you have in your head- what you have in your head can't exist on the outside. This is a whole new beast. It's going to ultimately look different and this is a good thing.
Also the internal critic is dumb.
I'm not even trying to be nice to your writing specifically here. The internal critic is looking for a completed story and you don't have one yet. So anything it has to say flat out does not apply.

Genshin Impact 2.5 (March 2022): Shenhe walks all the way to Mondstadt to see the Traveller and learn about smoothies. Eula is sad when drunk. They become friends. Meanwhile Beidou and Ningguang sloppily make out in the corner of Angel's Share. They are giving so much old couple energy and new couple energy at the same time.

I am imagining that it probably started as a teasing offer from Kaeya to Jean, mostly to get a rise out of her. But then, after the Fecund Hampers incident resulted in hundreds of crying Mondstadtian kids, she returned to her office and, grim determination in her eyes, unlocked the safe and pulled out the papers labelled OPERATION MANSLUT to sign
operation "traveler, let other ppl have fun at an event too" 👀 - @zhongscara
its a silly kaeya\lumine date. you know how traveler wins all competitions at all events, finds all treasures\secrets etc, so locals dont get to do the fun parts. so in another mond festival kaeya is tasked by the knights to manipulate mansplain and if needed manslut the traveler to make sure she doesnt sweep all challenges

10% because the Qixing are covering up the destabilising news, and 90% because the Traveller's Ley Line farming somehow creates Mora out of nothing and Pantalone and Ningguang are racing to figure out how to exploit this.
The most annoying outstanding plot thread in genshin is that there’s apparently no more mora being minted. Like, that represents a genuine economic catastrophe! Why isn’t everyone in teyvat talking about this??

> explain that you are making noodles
When someone offers information about themselves, it is polite to do the same.
“I also want to go home,” you tell her. “I am making noodle soup.”
The woman in green nods, taking this in.
“Noodle soup...” she says. “That sounds really nice.”
“I hope it will be nice,” you say. “I have been practicing this dish. It is based on a memory from long ago.”
“That's... that's neat, I guess.”
> ask her why she is having an awful time
“You said you have been having an awful time. Why is that?”
“Because of this stupid mushroom commission, that's why!” The woman throws her arms up in the air.
“Can you simply not do the commission?” you ask. Likely the idea has already occurred to her, but it cannot hurt to check.
She laughs ruefully. “I wish. But no, that awful woman Lan, she hates me and she's forcing me to do a commission. She says I have to do one this month or else, which is stupid, I'm already qualified, I'm an expert in adventuring!, I've read every book on the subject at Wanwen Bookhouse, even the ones that only came out last month. But Lan was awful and said I had to, so I looked and there was a commission to pick some mushrooms, because of the shortage right now, and I figured, I can do it!. I know how to tell apart all the different kinds of mushrooms in southern Liyue! But guess what?” (She carries on without giving you time to guess what.) “That doesn't help! Because I've been looking all day and I haven't found a single mushroom! Not even one!
“And in the middle of it all some Hilichurls ambushed me and I ran, and I got away but I tripped and I scraped my knee. It's not even a proper cut, I didn't even have a chance to make a tourniquet or anything, I just put some hydro gel on it. But it stings and I hate it. And I have been looking all day and the mushrooms are supposed to grow in dark areas like under trees but I've been checking so many trees and there's nothing. Nothing!”
She sniffles and pauses for breath.
(The next update, ask whether she is sniffling because of allergies or because of crying, will appear in a 🧵 new thread. Check the masterpost or the #untitled shenhe game tag for updates.)

Your name is Shenhe and you are at the top of a cliff, locked in mortal combat with a boar.
If you fall from the cliff, you will lose precious hours that you need to make noodle soup for your friend Yun Jin.
If the boar falls from the cliff, the meat will be improperly tenderised.
> strike decisively
As the boar charges towards you, you coil your legs and lunge.
There is no margin for error. You must end this in a single strike, if possible.
(ℹ️ This battle is a series of 5–7 skill checks. Past results under the cut.
The next poll will appear when there are approx. 12 hours left on this one.)
There will be five to seven tests. Five successes will ensure that you defeat the boar without either of you falling off the cliff. (Be warned. If a sixth or seventh test is necessary, these will be extra-difficult.)
Status as of posting:
Wisdom 🌘 — success
54.8% "corps and door" ✔️. Next highest at 11.3% "gore and VIOLENCE" ❌, 11.3% "door and dour" ❌. [i]
A knock on my door // I'm met with a boar // Its backup is poor // not even a corps
Perception 🔎 — success (barely)
34% 7 stripes ✔️. Next highest at 32% "no boar facts, Shenhe. only VIOLENCE." ❌
[i] Merriam Webster IPA pronounciations.

i keep seeing posts about how furina was Actually Competent As A Ruler, which i think are misguided, even if they are coming from well-intentioned place. like, ppl love furina, and so they have an impulse to advocate her good qualities, which is v understandable, but where it derails i think is in assumption that agency = power, so ppl feel the need to prove that she was Actually Good At Power.
This also shows bc these posts *always* bring up neuvi, to either compare furina to him and say that he Did Her Dirty By Stealing Her Power, or to be like, actually they were Dual Rulers, and even if he was running the government, she was Girlbossing Too, like she was handling diplomatic relations or smth else, we just never got to see The Girlbossing.
both Stealing Power and Girlbossing Off Screen takes, I think, are not only textually incorrect, but also miss one of the central points of Fontaine, which is that its government was a hot mess and NO ONE there was Good At Power. Neuvi was absolutely not Girlbossing himself. Whats the point of like trying to prove furina was in charge of More Things, when all of the things were in shambles. The only efficiently run institution in fontaine is autonomous prison.
like, Furina is Marie Antoinette coded for a reason. She is a critique of monarchy, literally a divinely appointed monarch, that shows that putting in power a random person just bc of their birth circumstances, while they are not qualified at all, and then forcing them to be a figurehead under intense scrutiny of society that expects them to somehow be More Divinely Special than normal ppl, will be horrible no-good for both that person AND society. We had to watch her cry every day for 500 years cut scene for a reason. losing archonhood *frees* her to be what she actually wants.
Neuvi on the other hand, is a thesis of how impartiality for a ruler turns into indifference and inaction. Yes, he was incorruptibly fair in his judgements, but he was judging using the flawed laws inside of a flawed system, and this lead to tragic cases like Navia's dad' death and general bureaucratic and inept government. Like we had to listen to Navia yell at neuvi about it for like 5 minutes straight, come on. He realized that the system was flawed (his stories mention his disdain for courts being run like opera performances), that laws were often nonsensical, but he didn't try to change it, because as a dragon, it was basically not his circus, not his monkeys. only when he started to care about humans and forced by a crisis, he challenged the system, and his final ruling as he ascended to the power of god of life again, is markedly NOT impartial, but made with favor for humans. The thesis is that the judge should rule from a position of caring FOR the judged.
these two are explicitly not Cool Divine Bosses Ruling Together or Neuvi Stealing Furina's Importance As An Archon, but two sides of one miserable coin about how badly run fontaine actually was.
