akaashi being captain by default bc he’s the only starting member who’s a third year. the word default is ugly, but he can see the rationale behind the decision. but it’s gotta do numbers on him emotionally. was he only given the title as vice in his second year because he could handle bokuto? not to mention—what of how bokuto handled him? how much did his skill level factor into the decision to make him captain? what sort of work what a captain elected by default and not choice have to do, and for a (renowned) team comprised of so many first years, too? playing no longer beside bokuto but under his shadow can’t have helped his nerves at all, no matter how many reassurances he received.
