Some spring break study vibes. Trader Joe’s lunches, Starbucks and local coffee shops, reading, Partial Differential Equations homework…
I am sort of (definitely) behind on my math homework because I asked for an extension on my assignments during midterms since I was also moving out of my house at the same time. I finished 3 of 4 problems on the first assignment today, with a second assignment to worry about tomorrow. I’m stuck on the last problem of HW 1 so I’ll end up asking for help on that, I’m sure. Hopefully the second assignment is manageable. We’ll see tomorrow.
also tackling some much-needed attention to my social media. I usually post whatever I feel like, but every once in a while it’s important to take a look at my accounts and see how they make me feel and how I want to present myself to the world

Mini life photo dump. Classes are busy, problem sets are never ending, math proofs are exhausting. But I just finished the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy, made my way into 2 Corinthians in my Bible, got a new Starbucks cup with my rewards points, and checked off a bunch of cleaning chores off my to-do list. Feeling like a real adult this season.

Things I have done while settling into grad school… set up a morning routine, get a standing desk with a walking pad underneath to encourage me to walk more, bring a book with me to read on the commute to and from school, add my school friends on Goodreads, reduce the pressure I put on myself to read knowing that I just won’t have the same amount of time as I used to

Some things I’ve been up to… reading a lot, annotating a little bit (but not a lot, honestly). Rediscovering my favorite classics and realizing that I own a lot of classics, actually, way more than I thought I did. Rediscovering the game Cookie Clicker??? I’ve had a lot of free time.
All of which will end soon. I’m going to be doing some traveling for a few days, then moving across the country for grad school, at which point my free time will become nonexistent, I’m sure. But while it lasts, I am enjoying the lack of productivity and responsibilities.

More hunger games annotations, and I began reading The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. I think she may become a favorite author of mine, as I loved the Age of Innocence and am really loving the first two chapters of this one as well.

Happy last day of classes to me :) I’m currently sitting in my final class of undergrad, but the prof is running a kahoot and I got kicked off the wifi so I’m chilling on my phone instead
Here are my chapter 4 annotations of The Hunger Games

Nearing the close of the semester and getting excited about the newly released trailer for A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! I’ve been annotating The Hunger Games in anticipation of its release and wow, I forgot how densely packed this book was. There’s so much to analyze, I feel like I’m running out of room.
What I need is for someone to publish books with room for notes and annotations the way people sell Bible journals. I need an edition of The Hunger Games with extra wide margins so that I have room for all my thoughts.

I would love to be reading annotating right now but classes end Wednesday and I have a 10 page paper due Tuesday, as well as a last quiz and coding assignment to submit. So it’s back to a study aesthetic for the time being. I’m forcing myself to leave my room to study so that I don’t get distracted by my books, so at least my views are pretty.

I’ve been reading less now that the school semester has gotten back to its usual intensity, which is a bit sad. I miss reading as often, but I also get a lot of fulfillment from my schoolwork. Hoping to find a balance soon.
Today my goal is to finish my readings for class tomorrow and submit a 2-paragraph analysis for them. It’s my last assignment for the week, and then I just need to study for my first midterm on Monday. I also have two articles to write for a website.

I got a lot done yesterday, and did my grocery shopping this morning, so I’m feeling good about this week. I have some readings and videos to complete before the week begins, and an interview to prep for on Tuesday, but I’m otherwise optimistic about the work for this week. And I had some time to read and annotate, which is always nice.

First full week of the semester done, spending the weekend doing the basics: studying, grocery shopping, sleeping, cleaning
There’s a new building that opened on campus that I’ve been frequenting as a study spot because it has a lot of open space, seating, and a coffee shop on the first floor. I’ve been bringing my own coffee to save money, but it’s still fun to have the option to order if I want.
Today’s goals: get some stats coding homework finished, do my analytical math bio homework, and do a bit of annotated reading for fun

Stressed out a bit this week. After traveling, I felt really behind in my classes, so I’ve been playing catch up. It’s also the first full week of the semester, so I’m still settling into a new routine and getting used to all my responsibilities.
On top of that, grad schools have started sending out results, which has hiked my anxiety up. I’ve had some interviews that felt positive, as well as an invite to an in-person interview weekend, but no confirmed, formal offers yet. I also received one “soft rejection” that felt a little nasty— the email told me I got in, even though I didn’t. Whoever came up with that idea has an especially cold heart. I’m confident that my future will work out for the best and have been upbeat and excited about everything else, but some things still hurt.

I’m attending a conference this weekend and took these photos in my hotel room while getting some work done because the light was just too pretty to ignore.
Classes technically started Thursday but I’ve fallen behind already because of my conference, unfortunately, but it’s definitely worth playing catch up because I’ve been able to learn a bunch, network, and gain experience presenting (I gave a talk yesterday to a small audience and it was nerve wracking but such good presenting experience).
I’m really excited about my classes this year, though. I’m taking two math courses and a film theory class, which I believe will be a challenge as I’ve never studied film before. It looks like a lot of readings! I plan on getting started with those on the plane home.
