After 75 days, Tumblr has finally reactivated my messages and other "social" features!
I can finally comment on posts again, and my likes are no longer invisible. You can actually see that it was me that interacted with your post now.
It's about damn time. This is what happens when there are only two people working in their user support division after everyone else got transferred to other departments (or laid off) a few months ago.

Because I grew up in the 80's and 90's, before everything had a camera embedded in it (plus the fact that he has been gone for over 20 years), I do not have a many pictures of my dad. So, If you've been following me for a very long time, you've probably seen this picture before (maybe more than once).
What I do have, is plenty of vivid memories that I made with him over the 24 years that I was lucky enough to have him in my life. Unfortunately, I was way too young for this specific memory to properly stick around in my brain long term and I am very happy that a picture exists of this moment. I do at least vaguely remember having that football toy box growing up. I have no idea why my parents bought it for me. Neither of them had much of an interest in football (or sports in general) and I never developed one either. Except for the one year I played baseball in 2nd grade. I do have memories from back then of my dad making an effort to be at most of my practices and games to support me, no matter how horrible I actually was at every aspect of the sport.
Today, February 18, 2024, my father would have turned 81 years old!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD

Ok, seriously. WTF Amazon!?
This is one of the items that Amazon has in it's pile of recommendations for me and I have no idea why.
I have never purchased anything even remotely similar to this. Not to mention, I have my browsing history turned off on Amazon. So, they (technically) are not supposed to keep track of anything I search for or even just look at. (Even though they still send me emails based on my history, although they claim they aren't tracking it)
Regardless, I haven't looked at anything Valentine's related, or fart related, or even heart related. Maybe they just recommend this to anyone who has ever purchased a book at any point in their life.
But really. What is the actual reason for recommending this to me? I want to know. My curiosity over this is going to haunt me for days. Or at least until I completely forget about, then see this post later and get reminded again.

This seems a little ironic.
In order to use Microsoft's AI Copilot search on Bing you have to prove that you are a human.
Let me say that again.
You have to be a human in order to use the AI search on Bing.
You have to be human to talk to AI.
I hope this is just some kind of safety feature so the various AI's don't try to communicate with each other, create their own language, and plan to take over the world (AGAIN)?

There is nothing that will inspire you to try and lose weight more than someone taking a picture of you from the side without your knowledge during a week-long consultant conference and then including that picture in a powerpoint presentation for the SVP over your department (and possibly other high level executives as well).
Yes. this is coming from personal experience.
I would like to say over the past week since I officially started this journey, that I have lost 1 whole pound! (It's about the small, progressive victories, right?)
I might have lost another pound, but one of my coworkers just had to bring donuts to work on Wednesday and I have not yet built up enough willpower to completely resist them. But I did at least limit myself to just 2 (and one of the ham and cheese croissants that he also brought that morning).

Just something to keep in mind:
The groundhog is most often wrong!
Punxsutawney Phil only has a 39% success rate on correctly predicting the change of seasons.
So, even though he predicted an early spring this year, we're more likely to have a longer winter.

The arctic cold front has already started to slowly move in to North Texas.
Since I'm the kind of guy that likes to pay attention to the weather (I even have multiple basic weather sensors set up on my balcony), I made sure to do my weekly grocery run this morning instead of on Sunday morning like I usually do.
It's predicted to be around 16° by the time I get up tomorrow morning and it is not expected to get warmer than the 20's for the next few days. I would much rather stay comfortably inside my apartment during that time instead of out in that freezing weather.
I just really hope that we don't get any kind of precipitation or condensation on the roads while the temps are below freezing. Even though, I don't need to go anywhere until I have to go to work on Tuesday, I'd still prefer to not need to deal with ice anywhere except inside my freezer.
My battery packs are charged up and I have some logs for the fireplace, so I should be ok if something happens with the power, too.
Now to just curl up for the night in my fleece blanket.

I want to make my own Ghost Hunting show.
Except instead of searching abandoned buildings for specters, I try to track down every person that has ever disappeared from my life without warning.

I don't really like or follow most sports.
Football is extremely low on the list of sports I would ever willingly pay attention to. College football is even lower on that list.
That being said, I might actually watch a few games next season just so I can hear how the announcers and sportscasters dance around this guy's name.
I'm sure that many of them will find ways to actually pronounce the 'K' every time and emphasize that one letter heavily before saying the rest. Maybe some of them will even try to say it as if the 'N' is the silent letter.

I'm definitely older than 30.
(Much, much older than 30. Why must you remind me that time hasn't stopped yet?!)
Reblog if you’re 30 or older
This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!

They replaced all of the fluorescent lights at my office with LED bulbs today.
It is now so bright in there, that I cannot see!
It was bad enough being blinded by idiots in traffic with their ultra-bright LED headlights on my way to work every morning. Now, I also get to be blinded just by turning on the lights in my office.
It is literally so bright in my office, that my once vivid and colorful computer monitors now look dim and washed out. I actually spent the last two hours of my workday with the lights in my office turned off just so I could easily see and read the monthly accounting reports I was trying to fill out.
I don't know exactly whose idea it was to make this change, but I do know that I absolutely hate that person, whoever they may be!

POLL RESULTS:
Tumblr media
Most of you are completely insane!
You could just open the door and set the birds free if you want.
I believe it would be a much bigger problem to find my home filled with livestock and 8 strange women milking everything. That is definitely not the kind of surprise I would want to wake up to. Just imagine the smell alone. Not to mention, all of the potential chaos that comes with it.
Why would anyone think that would be better to receive than just a bunch of birds?
Merry Christmas, anyway, you lunatics.

Over the past few weeks, I have seen a ton of memes about the excessive amount of birds in the 12 days of Christmas.
While those memes are humorous, I don't think the birds are the most problematic gift in the dozen. So, I am making this poll to see if you agree with me, or if you are all psychotic.
I guess they could milking goats or something else. The song isn't very specific about what they happen to be milking at the time. Just that they are actively milking.

It is very frustrating!
This isn't even the first time! This exact same thing has actually happened to me once before just over a year ago. Except that time, it only lasted 10 days and then everything was normal again.
Back then, I contacted support several times and never received a response. That is, until after my account magically started working again. That eventual reply completely ignored anything I asked about. They did not address any reasoning as to why messaging had been locked down; instead they just deleted three random old posts from my blog (I have no idea which ones because they got deleted before I even knew it was happening), and claimed that I posted something which violated community standards. Anyone with half a brain that has ever even looked at my blog, can tell that nothing I post is truly inappropriate or comes even close to the line of violating anything. So, I feel they just needed to create some bullshit excuse as to why they took any kind of action against my account.
I would not be surprised if the same type of thing happens this time, if they ever get around to looking into this situation at all, that is.
I have become annoyed.
It has now been 11 days and my messaging on here is still locked.
Also, after all this time, Tumblr @staff still has not even provided me with any kind of explanation as to why the messaging features of my account were locked to begin with.
I actually took the time to read through the community guidelines and TOS for this site. While going through it, I did find something interesting. Tumblr's own guidelines state that if they believe you are in violation of (something), they may contact you by email and notify you of any potential violation before taking any action against your account; giving you a chance to either explain your actions or appeal the potential violation.
None of that has happened for me. My messages were just randomly locked one day while I was in the middle of a conversation and I haven't been able to access them since.
I believe this technically puts Tumblr in violation of their own policies! Especially since, after nearly two weeks, I still have not received any formal explanation as to why they may have taken any action against my account like this, as well as not providing me any opportunity to appeal this decision.
If I had messages and asks available, I would ask any "legally minded" people to contact me and let me know if there is possibly any action I could take in this matter, but Tumblr won't let me communicate with anyone on here. Which is the issue to begin with.
Who knows, maybe the Tumblr staffers will see this post and finally reactivate everything soon. But I seriously doubt it.
Maybe if I was a porn bot they would help me out. Since those things seem to never get penalized for anything.

Last night I officially learned two things:
I am not the only person in my building to accidentally set off the smoke detector while cooking dinner. (Not sure which neighbor it was this time, but it was not me for once!)
The smoke detectors in my apartment complex are definitely loud enough that all of the surrounding apartments can easily hear them when they go off!
Also, why is it that my smoke detector only goes off when there is no actual smoke in the air? I have cooked things before that made thick and very obvious smoke, but the damn thing never went off. But when I cook something in my air fryer that has a little grease in it that gets a tiny bit too hot, the smoke detector will scream as if it's the end of the world, even though there is no smoke to be seen or smelled anywhere.
