Hi :)
Are new players allowed to make skins? I read your skin tutorial as I got into the FR side of tumblr. When I can, I'd like to make an account.
Are there any limitations as to when I can make a skin? Will people get mad if I try to make a skin and am new?
Sorry if this question is silly. Thanks for your time, your art is super awesome :)
there is nothing stopping new fr players from making skins! nobody will get mad at you if you do. new players usually don't immediately start making skins, for the following reasons:
a) lack of familiarity with the skin templates / skin market - usually people take some time to learn what they like about their dragons and what other people like on their dragons.
b) blueprint expenses - it's not cheap at all to print a skin, even for veteran players. new players generally don't have the gems needed. if you do preorders, people might be warier of sending preorder money to a new player. many of them might take the preorder gems and disappear without delivering.
however, I've seen and bought plenty of skins from new fr joinees who also looked up guides before they joined like you. I'm sure you'll do fine!

some banner work I did for rockbreaker鈥檚 ceremony 2022 push over on flight rising :) the concept is an expedition into an forgotten underground city, teeming with undead and built for dragons larger than anything living in the world today! I鈥檒l post the lore I wrote for this expedition next week, when all the daily snippets have been revealed.

hi august what pens / programs do you use for your skins? im trying to figure out if my sketches arent to my liking bc my skill level or bc my choice in pen lol
oh also this is very ignorant but do you know how to like. upscale the blueprints. do you just copy em and transform/drag them out bigger?? do you upscale yours to work on and then downscale them to submission size?
I use clip studio paint (CSP) and my skin brush is the default 100% opacity hard round pen that comes with any drawing program! not sure why mine has the eraser icon (I think at some point I lost my default round tool and had to duplicate the hard round eraser for it??)
I am not sure how much brushes impact other people's skin outcomes. I have always found myself relying on strong shapes and colours, so the brush doesn't matter very much to me. I think this is true for art in general. a brush can change how you draw, and changing how you draw can lead to something you'll ultimately end up happier with... but brushes will not solve all problems. a different pen choice will almost definitely not fix disliking your sketches, unless you're currently using something objectively terrible for sketches.

I resize by downloading the psds from the site templates and changing image resolution like this. you will be able to do this in any art program, but for software really bad at resizing like procreate you can use photopea online instead.

thanks anon! I'm doing good, just taking a step back from skins and flight rising in general to focus more on uni and personal art. I do have a skin from last year I'll be submitting for mistral jamboree though :)
