If Diane came back for real she would get along with Morty so well that Rick would be the one jealous and angry about being left behind. Diane and Morty babyyy
you're sooooo right anon like that's her baby's baby, that's her little baby boy, that's HER little guy she'd be like his biggest fan and always in his corner that's HER GRANDSON OK <3
like GOOD ENDING:

Sometimes I wonder if the only reason Rick cares so much about Diane is because he couldn't replace her if he tried. After all, he already replaced Beth and doesn't care about changing universes and leaving her behind, so he kinda takes her for granite
yeah I wonder if Diane hadn't been wiped out across the multiverse if he'd just shack up with an abandoned one tbh (maybe??) but he definitely takes Beth for granite and I'm sick of it anon lol

The craziest part of the episode to me is the ice cream table exchange about Beth tbh like Morty truthfully believes that Rick would say
“This may as well be our real daughter because she’s just as real as you.”
and
“Put it this way. You’re all basically NPCs. Only Morty and I are real, so your side quests don’t matter. The main quest is us.” (referring to he and Diane exclusively)
And when Diane, rightfully, combats him for his thinking with
“You’re disgusting. You’re talking about our baby girl like she’s theoretical?”
Beth throws in “Welcome to the family.”
Which might be one of the most heartbreaking lines in the whole thing to me because Morty has observed Rick enough to believe that this line of thinking is entirely in character for not only Rick but for the rest of the family too. Like Morty truly believes that Rick doesn’t care about them in anyway and that when faced with this, even Beth would just respond with the belief that this is the norm, at least from Rick anyway. So much so, that he uses an outside character in Diane to call out how insane it is.
Morty believes that Rick only cares about Diane and literally everyone else doesn’t matter and that’s just so sad to me, especially when we have seen otherwise but he can’t be faulted for thinking that when Rick carries that facade with him almost always, and especially to Morty directly.

I wish we knew more about the timeline of Diane. Like, we can assume Beth's Rick left around the time C-137 lost his family but a long time had to have passed before she was erased because I doubt Beth became an orphan at a young age.
I know not all universes exist in the same year so maybe Beth's Diane died from old age before all versions got erased. Or maybe she got erased and Beth just assumed she passed away? I wish we knew more about Beth's relationship with her mom in general.
I 100% agree anon, I’d love to know more about Beth’s childhood so much. I assume Diane is erased around the time Beth gets pregnant and starts her life with Jerry (so like 16/17) and it’s also super interesting that Prime walks out on his family for good around when she’s like Morty’s age (I need to know more about him as a dad as well tbh)
But yeah, Beth’s childhood is definitely the most interesting unexplored detail of the show and Diane is definitely more interesting narratively to me as Beth’s mom opposed to as Rick’s wife

@mochabonesblog oh definitely !! The episode is so great !!
The whole episode shows how much Morty does KNOW Rick but at the same time DOESN’T KNOW him that much at all (which is totally not his fault and is Rick’s fault for not being open enough with his emotions) since the ending solidifies that, along with many different instances in other episodes of Rick caring but Morty still believes that he buys into his whole nihilistic belief schtick so much that no one matters (except for Diane)
I do believe that Diane has this personality but I don’t believe she’d act like how she was portrayed since all of this is Morty projecting his fears that Rick doesn’t care about him (or anyone else for the matter) and he’s using Diane to heighten this fear (because if he only met Rick because he’s was hunting Prime to avenge Diane then what is keeping him here? Prime is dead, if Morty believes that Rick ONLY cares about Diane and now she has been avenged, he can leave any minute now and that terrifies him)
But Rick doesn’t just care about Diane. He does care about her deeply, but he cares about so many other people too and Morty can’t see that (which once again isn’t his fault since Rick puts up that facade constantly)
i know everyone is freaking out ab diane but i just find it kinda funny how morty’s perception of diane is as an extension of rick and not as his literal grandmother. like idk, maybe diane is similar to what morty’s interpretation of her was but i’ll be damned if she would treat her grandson like that

@mochabonesblog I like this being her personality (kinda, like I loved when she first appeared but as the ep went on I was like :/)
I saw that inside the episode video and I think both can still be true, like Diane could be a cool, sharp-witted, badass and not be this big bad kinda nihilistic and cold woman that has this type of toxic relationship with Rick.
The fact that she acts like that as the episode progresses is what solidifies that for me (notice she barely interacts with Morty in this fear version, if at all) it’s just the idea that she ONLY cares about hanging out and being a little hedonistic with her husband (and vice-versa) is just so wrong to me,,, like she would clearly care about him the same way that Rick does (the problem is that in Morty’s mind, Rick doesn’t care about him or anyone else that isn’t Diane and he projects that on her as well, even though neither is true)

Thank you!!! Like that's why I chalk it up to being Morty's fear version of what she would be like, so of course it would be like the worst case scenario (I also took note of how Rick acted in his fear too, and although it was pretty accurate to Rick I thought it was almost too cavalier when he and Diane talked about their respective dead daughter(s) --- but like it would make sense in the context of Morty's fear, his fear is that Rick literally doesn't care about the family and ONLY cares about Diane, so it makes sense that they would act like that) but I'm sure that actual Diane would not act like that
