It’s here! Welcome to Draw Drarry Badly Challenge 2024! The DDBC, established by @l0vegl0wsinthedark in 2018, is our fandom’s lighthearted declaration that the fun of making fanart is for absolutely everybody!
The rules:
Draw Drarry.
Draw them badly.
I mean really badly.
Pick a cherished Drarry trope to illustrate, or a fic scene! Use your kids’ crayons or the nearest ballpoint pen! Draw anything, with anything!
No apologizing for the badness of the art! The badness is the point!
Post your marvelously terrible art, tag it ‘draw drarry badly challenge’ so we can all find it, and tag anyone you want to do it too!
Officially, this year’s DDBC is from January 20 – 31, but really, the point is that it’s always a good day to make fanart, even if you think you’re “not actually an artist.” Fandom is simply a better place with more people making art, and there is no dour committee awarding art licenses. The joy of art is yours! Make something exuberantly silly today, and keep going!
Absolutely everyone in the fandom is tagged in by this post: writers, readers, reccers, and people already known as skilled artists. Everybody in!

aaah thanks anon! what an interesting question! sorry it took me a while to answer your ask - i got lost down the rabbit hole of amazing drarry artists i follow and i wanted to do this ART REC justice. I've listed just a few favorites who have been active in the past year, but I'm sure there are many more I forgot to add here (everyone feel free to add to my list tysm!)

How can anyone see one of Quail's drawings and comics and not fall head over heels in love with their humor and style? Their art is so sweet and soft and funny. Run to check out their tropes mashup comics (illustration above taken from the one they did for my prompt 'not a date'+'first kiss') if you haven't already!
@littlewinnow
Another 2023 (and 2024!) favorite, Winnow draws the absolute cutest dad!Draco and Scorpius. Both are completely infatuated with Harry, of course, which makes for sweet and hilarious mini-comics. Their art never fails to put a huge, sappy smile on my face <3 (I also recommend their nsfw art blog, too. for... reasons 🥵)

"Are you trying to murder me with this," I whisper as I look for the nearest fainting couch every time Basia posts a new art. I could write entire paragraphs about it. I love everything about their style, their ability to render yearning/fondness/lust, and their sense of anatomy (their Explicit art is mf fire). Basia's art is also very special to me: their Draco and Harry look like Basia reached into my brain and drew them exactly as I imagine them, pointy and messy and expressive and so, so into each other. WHere's that fainting couch when you need it??

I've been following El's art since they posted their first nsfw art on AO3, and I've adored everything they made since then. Just look at their Draco. Look at him. El draws the most exquisite details, with a use of color to die for. I'm always looking forward to what they'll post next!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'm just gonna leave this art here to save everyone from an embarrassingly long, gushing paragraph about why longdaytogo's art is so amazing. They just draw the sexiest, most beautiful Draco and Harry, they don't even need to show much (just look at Draco's gaze!! and Harry's hand!!) for me to go weak in the knees.

I love Phantasmagoria's art (the one I choose here made me gasp when I saw it). Their sense of color, light, movement, and drama is unparalleled. Their art feels like looking at a movie still, if that makes sense? So much storytelling packed in each beautiful image.

I'm a long-standing fan of Blue's art, and seeing their art on my dash (be it HP, Capri, or other fandoms) is always a joy. They have such a gentle touch with lines and colors, their art gives me the same warm, happy, content feeling that I get reading the best of Saras Girl's fics.

Who's a brilliant writer in addition to being an incredible artist? Maesterchill, that's who. Another artist and friend who I've followed for many years, Maesterchill never ceazes to take my breath away with the heights of their talent. Their latest nsfw Drarry art was absolute fire, as are their fics and poems.

Let's take a moment to celebrate a quiet artist who creates incredible cover art for their favorite fics. I discovered Cherie's covers when they made a cover for one of my fics (see excerpt above). They make cover art for a lot of Drarry fanfics using stock photos and a talent for visual design. I love how creativity in this fandom takes so many forms!
@fantalfart
Fantalf's art is so soft and gorgeous. I love seeing it on my dash (just look at the example above!) and when they participate in fests. Their most recent comic was simply stunning, with a masterful use of black-and-white and color panels to support their storytelling.
@drarrydoodles
A unique, gorgeous style, a use of color and shadow that reminds me of oil paintings and makes me want to stare at each of their arts for long, awestruck minutes. They don't post a ton of art but when they do, holy fuck I need to lie down. They also reblog a lot of other artists, which is really cool if you're looking for more artists to follow.

Fest rules
What is this fest about?
Drarry Mini Bang is a collaborative fest in which writers and artists come together to create fanwork. The writers will submit their detailed concept for a fic, and artists will claim one or several (up to you!) to create an art piece.
Who can participate?
You must be at least 18 years old at time of signing up.
We also expect you to treat everyone taking part, including the mods, with respect.
All work must be your own, and we do not allow any kind of fic or art produced with AI.
You may register as both a writer and an artist, but due to the collaborative nature of this event, you cannot make art for your own fic. All the matching will be done through the claiming process, therefore we will not allow pre-made collabs between artists and writers.
What are the requirements for writers?
Writers will need to write an original fic of at least 10k.
The fic needs to be a stand-alone, unpublished fic. You will be asked to submit your fic concept with an estimated word count, a list of tags and possible warnings/triggers and the rating of your fic. If any of these details change after you’ve submitted your concept and before preview day, you need to let the mods know asap. If something changes after the teams have been announced, please talk to your partner and let the mods know if there are any issues.
Please do not share details of your fic before you are matched with an artist. You can share small snippets and talk about your story after the teams have been formed.
Your fic must be complete and has to be beta read before the submission deadline. Should you need an extension, please let us know as soon as you can.
When you fill in your sign up form, you will be given a chance to decide what type of art you would like to receive for your story.
We will cap writers at 25 participants, but we will open sign ups for pinch hitters. We will try our best to find everyone an artist to work with, but due to the collaborative nature of this event, should we not have enough artists, the people whose fics have not been picked might have to be dropped.
What are the requirements for artists?
You can create a variety of original fan work based on the story your writer is working on:
- illustrations, both digital and traditional (they don’t need to be in colour)
- moodboards (at least 6 elements)
- plastic arts (including embroidery and origami)
- playlists (a minimum of 10 songs)
- fic binding
- podfic
We will ask you to create a minimum of one art piece based on the story your writer is working on. If you would like to work with more than one writer (which would make us extremely happy), please let us know in your sign-up form.
There is no cap for artists.
What kind of rating is allowed?
Any rating is allowed for both art and fics, but please tag your work appropriately.
We support SALS (ship and let ship) YKINMKBYKIO (your kink is not my kink, but your kink is okay) and DLDR (don’t like – don’t read), so we will not tolerate any shaming.
For this fest, we will not accept any works that contain Dead Dove content. If your work is rated Mature or Explicit, the characters involved must be at least 18 years old.

Sign ups open for writers and artists: 20th January
Sign ups close: 18th February
Deadline for fic concepts and details to be submitted by writers: 18th February
Fic concepts sent to artists: 24th February
Artists claim: 27th February
Teams announced: 2nd-6th March
First check-in: 6th April
Second check-in: 11th May
Last check-in: 8th June
Submissions due: 2nd July
Posting begins: August
Do I need to keep my creation secret?
You can share your WIPs only after the teams have been announced.
This fest is not anonymous.
What if my partner ghosts me or is being rude?
Please let us know and we’ll speak to them. This is a collaborative event - ignoring your partner causes unnecessary stress and anxiety, and we will not tolerate any rudeness or abuse.
We also ask that you stick to deadlines, because we don’t want anyone to be let down and end up without a partner. If you think at any point during the fest that you need to drop out, please please please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can find someone to replace you.

I have had this idea, and I feel a little nervous asking, but I have loved reading fics and seeing tumblr posts where recipes are shared.
Would people be interested in a fic fest where you also share a favourite recipe?
The fic could be about anything but must mention somehow the recipe, and then the recipe is also included in the fic (could be in the narrative, or just shared at the beginning or end). I just think it would be cute and then all the recipes could be collected like a little fandom recipe book.
**EDIT** I should’ve also said that this could also be art of any kind! As many types of fan stuff as possible!!

OMG ITS YOUUUUUUU 🤩🤩🤩🤩
It’s so so brilliant and wonderful 😭😭 one of the funniest silliest loveliest draco i’ve ever read in a fic, and the most charming sweet and funniest harry too!! such a charming storytelling, i had a huge smile reading this from beggining to end because it WAS THAT GOOD.
Thank you for sharing the little backstory of how this fic came to be! it’s so interesting, and while i agree that it’s sort of a mashup between Turn and Far From The Tree (two of my faves!!), i think this fic still has its own unique charm and personality!! Such great family feels and Rosie writes banter and humor like nobody else!
