You're a statue... or are you?
Characters:Ei,Sara,Sucrose, Fischl,Barbara
Reader:gender-neutal
Wordcount:2.5k
Warnings:angst(Ei), fainting(Sara), Shakespearean(Fischl), cursing(Barbara)
My notes: yeah so, we broke up. Im back on my bullshit, have a happy new year.
~♤~
Ei
She knows the legend holds true, she saw it take place after all. Her dearest companion, turned to stone, right before her eyes.
She made sure the one who done it paid in blood for taking you away.
Overcome by grief she sealed herself away, unable to look at your petrified face. She failed to protect yet another one she cared for.
And here she was now, half a millennium after that forsaken day, strolling through Inazuma all alone.
Citizens did not dare to get in her way, parting like the sea, avoiding her empty stare.
Before she knew of it she was facing your statue. The plaque of metal at your feet tells your story vaguely, the last inscription reading "only a touch of their soulmate may free them now."
At once Ei struck it with her spear, if it only were that simple you'd be in her arms right now.
Discarding her spear she stepped forward and reached for your outstretched hand, the last plea, she remembers how you screamed for her help.
She wasn't fast enough. Thunder comes after lightning, she didn't possess her sister's swiftness.
Little cracks adorned your fingers, a sign of the years of erosion washed over you. She traced them, found her way into your arms again. She didn't know what she was expecting, you were as cold as the steel of a blade.
Until you weren't.
Hard surface rapidly turned into tender flesh.
Now there was a limp body in her arms. Frozen in place Ei held you, quietly she returned to her mind-scape, prompting the Shogun to take over.
Ei sunk to her knees slowly bringing you down, resting your body against hers. A hand reached to the base of your neck, tears gliding down her face as she felt your pulse.
Not a soul knows how much time the electro archon spent cradling your body close to her own, unmoving as she listened to you breathe.
Eventually, your eyes slowly opened, and Ei was there to return your stare, a longing look in her eyes.
A soft gasp passed your lips. Your eyes scanned your surroundings before looking back at her, confusion written on your face.
"Are we dead?"
She shook her head slowly, her red-rimmed eyes holding emotions far bigger than herself.
Her hand gently came to brush your hair out of your face "Do you remember me?"
You held her palm to your face, leaving a soft touch of your lips as your vision became muddled by tears of your own.
"I won't ever forget you, Ei."
Sara
She was patrolling when she spotted Itto surrounded by children next to the statue of the "forgotten lover", so of course, she became suspicious.
Joining the tiny crowd she endured the oni's babbles about how the statue is a person, waiting for their lover to set them free and demonstrating by touching it. Nothing happened.
"Aw man, your loss my statue!"
Sara has had enough, "Arataki Itto, leave the tri-commission's property alone at once." She said, hand reaching out to remove him, but that silly man had other plans.
"Kujou's turn!" He loudly announced as he took a side step, Sara's hands now resting on your stone-cold chest.
For a second she closed her eyes in frustration, then she heard the collective gasps of those around. The stone was cracking open.
Afraid she might have damaged the art piece she stepped away, letting you break out of the shell with the grace of a newborn calf trying to stand up.
Acting on instinct she caught you before you could meet the ground. Your eyes met hers for a moment before you went limp.
"I'll take them to the infirmary." She announced before marching off, carrying you in her arms now. The pang in her heart went unnoticed.
The people were in shock, she was in shock. The tale was true, you were just rock mere moments ago. Or were you trapped in rock? There were too many thoughts going through her head.
After a quick check-up and administrating of fluids the doctors assured you just needed to rest and recover before they left.
Sitting beside your bed, head resting in her hands, she couldn't bring herself to leave. The part of the story where only your lover could set you free repeating in her mind.
Everything else in the story was real. She remembers passing you by for years, have you been waiting all this time? Were you able to see her, were you silently waiting all along?
Several days passed before you opened your eyes again, Sara was there when it happened.
The nice guest room you were in left ignored as your irises focused on her. You tried to speak but it only resulted in a cough.
Sara was quick to bring you into a sitting position with one arm and bring a cup of water to your lips with the other. "Here. Don't force yourself."
After your cup was empty she tried to lead you down again but you remained upright, a determined stare in your eye as you gripped the blanket.
"Are— Are you the one? You broke me free didn't you?" Your voice was frail, yet it filled the otherwise silent room, Sara nodded.
"Save your energy, I'll bring you something to eat."
With her figure gone your eyes finally noticed your surroundings, the room was clean, a window cracked open letting fresh air in. The furniture, though scarce, was made of reddish wood, atop a low desk was a statue of the Shogun a little vase with lavender flowers next to her.
And returned she was, Sara came in holding a little table with five dishes, among them there was an egg roll bearing the electro sigil.
She sat it down in front of you, taking her place next to your futon.
"I must say I have a plethora of questions for you. Regardless, your recovery is the priority, here let me—" but you were already eating with the vigor of a starved wolf. Pausing for a minute when you heard her abrupt stop.
Remembering your manners you gave an apologetic smile "thank you".
"Don't mention it," she said before motioning you to continue "it's good to see you have an appetite, my name is Kujou Sara."
Well, you were glad to finally meet her. You'll have to introduce yourself and tell her what happened to you... as soon as you remember.
Sucrose
She's exploring on the field looking for new specimens to experiment on when she finds you.
Stance crooked, more than half of you is covered in moss and birds have made their nest in your outstretched palm. Curiously, only one finger stands up proudly while the rest are curled in.
"Fascinating..."
She approaches as if you'd come to life any second, careful to avoid the patch of mushrooms growing close by your legs, bleh.
Taking out a notebook she starts scribbling with great interest. Common moss from your shoes to your torso, the lichens there are not anything special either, what caught her attention was a lonely astilbe flower growing from your hood as dirt slowly gathered there over time.
It is a rather small and sturdy specimen with pale pink petals to match it.
With skilled hands she replanted the flower where it could thrive, taking a part of it for further examination.
"Here you go." She says, dusting off her gloves looking proud of her work.
She turns to head back toward her lab and mark you on her map. Only that when she does you're sitting down, your legs crossed, very much alive and breathing.
"WAAAAAA!"
She stumbles backward, landing on the forest floor looking at you with wide eyes, mouth agape.
"Hello" you raise your hand as if to wave, only to put it back down after "do you know where I am?" you ask. The fact you don't know your location not seeming to affect you very much.
"Y— You're alive"
"Clearly. Are you lost as well?"
She shakes her head, a nervous twitch in her ears matching her trembling fingers. Cute.
"Were you alive from the beginning? Is it a special ability? A defense mechanism perhaps?" Curiosity rests behind her round glasses, she tucks her legs close to sit more comfortably as you two converse.
"Nothing of the sort, I got trapped in 'undying ice' by a woman after I stumbled upon her and a bard talking," you say, eyes looking down as you pick at the moss on your clothes. It surely will take more than one good scrub to take it off.
Taking her pen out once again Sucrose started taking notes. Recreating this type of ice would be a massive discovery in bio-alchemy and a step closer to her wonderland.
"Do you perhaps know how she made it?" She asks, looking up from the notebook, her eyebrows furrowed.
"With her hands. Allegedly, she is a love goddess, and only 'my one true love can ever get me out of it'." You roll your eyes speaking with faux grandeur.
A bigger twitch in her ears, almost making them stand up. Eyes widening, her face reddening she adjusts her glasses.
"As if such a thing as a soulmate exists," you continue your little rant as poor Sucrose tried to gather herself.
Soulmates? You and her? Being busy with her studies all the time she never stopped to think about such things.
"So are you gonna tell me where we are or am I just going to go figure it out on my own?" You tell her as you stand up, a myriad of bones popping and cracking in your body as you stretch.
"We... we're in the outskirts of Mondstad," she says, catching up to guide you out of the forest before you have the chance to get yourself lost.
You hum in response before settling to walk beside her. "I'm S/O, by the by."
"Sucrose, nice to find you."
Fischl
She's read a book about it. A knight beyond this realm was sent on a mission to rescue a princess, now trapped in stone by the gods for intruding upon teyvat. Only the princess herself could rescue them.
Lo and behold the statue in Mondstad matched the sketch drawn in said book to perfection.
Why would the gods imprison you for trying to save someone? In the city of freedom, no less.
She couldn't possibly allow that to pass, it was her duty as a member of the adventurer's guild to free you, or so she told Oz.
Stepping into the garden, she could almost see your face from where it was hidden in your palms, your legs crossed resting on a stone pedestal. Judging by the moss at your feet this was a new implementation to preserve you.
She let her hand rest on one of your own, just what happened to you?
She gasped, eyes widening as the rock chipped at every corner and slowly you rose your head from your palms, rubble falling down your body like ashes. Tear-stained face peering into her own.
Your head tilted slightly as you rubbed your eyes, looking mystified by her.
"Princess?" You inquire in a hush, "What happened to your eye? Are you alright?" Before you could move to get down she raises a hand before you.
"Halt, you know who I am?"
"Are you not Princess Fischl?" You move your legs to dangle from the pedestal. "You sure look alike. She fled the castle and left me a note asking me to come find her here, she doesn't want to marry the prince her family betrothed her to." You explain while fiddling your fingers.
"What hath happened to thee then? wherefore w're thee a statue?"
There was a fond look in your eyes as you leaned forward.
"Why you speak like her as well, are you sure you're not my princess? Are you playing a trick on me, your royal highness?" You teased.
"I am not, anon answ'r mine own questions betimes thee knight!"
A gentle smile settled on your lips as you moved to the right, patting the place next to you "take a seat, I'll tell you everything mein frulein."
Barbara
She remembers a young Jean telling her about the statue of the one who learned to fly, trapped in stone by Decarabian soon after.
Pax Ventus was the name inscribed at your feet, the legend came to be as a tale sung by bards throughout history.
The inventor who crafted the first glider in an attempt to escape oppression, to this day your statue carries your symbol of freedom.
After a particularly tiring day, Barbara went on a walk to her one quiet place, filled with memories of her early childhood.
"I'm just as tall as you now, maybe next year you'll be the short one." Talking with a statue wasn't the sanest activity, but you were in a quiet area rarely visited by others.
Looking down she could see vines have climbed up your legs, again, "Oh goodness, does nobody care for you? Don't worry, Barbara's here." She asked as she knelt to unwrap the leaf climbers.
She stood back up when your stone shell began to break, revealing a perfectly frozen-in-time you.
You tried to step but quickly figured your legs weren't cooperating.
"Careful!" Luckily Barabara swept in quickly, walking you to a nearby bench.
The sky is bright, warm weather, and lush greens? "Am I in heaven? Are you an angel?" You turned to the deaconess, a dazzled expression on your face.
"Oh no," she waved her hands in front of herself "You're in Mondstad, I'm Barbara, just a regular person." She specified with a curt smile.
"Mondstad? I'm from Mond but I've never seen it else than cold n' gloomy." You fiddle with the leaves of a nearby bush. "How long have I been trapped?"
"I'm afraid I don't know, you been here since I could remember Pax." She shook her head, folding her hands in her lap.
"Pax? My name is S/O," you raised an eyebrow, who would name their child Peace?
"Ah! I'm terribly sorry, I thought the writing there was your name," she explained pointing towards where you stood just minutes ago.
You pushed the laugh bubbling in your chest down, how could someone from Mond not know Latin?
"Mind helping me out of these?" You rolled your shoulders, the wings on your back moving in sync.
"Of course."
With a few instructions, together you managed to undo the harness, letting your back rest on the wooden bench.
"That's much better. I feel light as a feather now," you sighed, eyes closed as you enjoyed the warm sun.
You heard something clank to the pavement.
"Oh shit!"
Quickly going to inspect your equipment you raised in the air a strange greenish orb encased in a golden frame. "I didn't make this" You mumbled.
Barbara gasped, hands clasped at her mouth and eyes wide.
"Oh uh sorry, it just slipped," you raised your other hand in front of yourself with an apologetic smile, unaware of the importance of the object in your hands.

Nex, your fanfic supplier here
Here's something about me, the rules and links to my masterlists.
I use They/he pronouns.
I'm an adult
English is not my first language.
Regarding my identity: gender and feelings are confusing.
I'm an INTP.
I'm as white as a sheet of paper.
I'm not involved with any religion.
Rules
I'm very much writing for myself. Requests are a no for now.
You know the drill, you don't like me or what I'm writing? The door is there, you're not forced to stay.
There's no updating schedule, yeah.
Should be common sense but still. Do not copy my stuff and post it as your own. I will find your ass and turn you over to the fanfic police.
Not a rule bit all fics are gonna be gender neutral unless I specify otherwise.

Her lipstick looks great smeared on you
Characters: Ayaka,Ningguang,Ei, Yanfei,Hu Tao,Kokomi
Reader: gender-neutral (they/them pronouns used briefly)
Word count: 1.8k
Warnings: there's a lot of implied things but nothing explicit, my notes were so long I had to move them at the end
~♤~
Ayaka
You meet by chance, she caught a small midday break and headed towards the komore teahouse. And would you look at that? The place was empty besides you and Taroumaru.
Seeing your warm smile as you greet her, she can't help herself when she rushes over and kisses you. A quick peck on your lips.
She's smeared a bit of her lipstick on you, and it's not even obvious as she likes to wear nude tones. Other people wouldn't notice it in all honesty, unless they were all up in your face.
"Ah, hold still dear," she pulls out a handkerchief from her pocket and traces your lips softly.
Usually, she's the shy one when it comes to affection, but this gesture made you feel like folding at the knees. This is your lover, this sweet, caring and gentle woman.
As she focuses on you, her self-control slowly dissipates, your lips are just so soft and plump, your visage puts her in a trance. And before she knows it, she's leaning in again, body pressing into yours, one hand resting on your shoulder the other hanging closely by your cheek.
She catches herself, but, she's come this close, and looking up you're a kiss away from making out with her as well.
"It seems I might need one more kiss, would that be alright love?" Her attention darts between your eyes and your mouth her heartbeat skyrocketing.
"Of course." You feel breathless as she closes in.
All is left forgotten, overrun by the way you hold one another. In this moment sweeter than honey, you are the epicenter of her affection.
Ningguang
As the gorgeous woman in power she is, Ningguang often receives gifts from all over the continent from business partners and other rich people hoping to seduce her with their money. (If only they knew she was married)
Among those, a recurring item were beauty products, how creative, though they were of the finest quality she had received more than needed.
One of those batches has recently been sent to her by a businessman she will be having a meeting with the next day.
To say such a move struck a nerve is downplaying it. Yet Ningguang's expression remained calm as her lover was analyzing the basket in their bedroom.
"Did something catch your eye, S/O?" She looked amused at the grimace on your face.
"Is he expecting you to wear this? Who does he think he is?"
You rummaged through, picking out a lipstick tube and opening it to reveal a crimson color matching your wife's eyes.
"This one's nice at least." You mumbled to yourself.
You felt a presence behind you, and soon two slender arms wrapped around your figure clawed fingers threading carefully. "Does it bother you, my treasure?"
"I don't like the way they treat you, that's for sure. But y'know you got your image and all, it's fine." You brushed it off, toying with the silver band with gold carvings on your finger. Your promise.
She gently turned you around "Something as my image is trivial compared to my spouse's wellbeing," she brushed a piece of hair out of your face.
You were left speechless, was she planning to— no, but she looked so earnest.
All questions were brushed away when she took the tube from your hands "I've been negligent, allow me to make up for it," She said in a particular tone as she pushed you down on the bed, now applying said lipstick.
The next day at the meeting you sat next to Ninnguang, she was wearing a deep blue dress, her wedding ring shining right in the eyes of the bastard across the table.
Cue the baffled look as you were introduced as her spouse. If he looked closer he would also see the red imprint of Ningguang's lips peeking out from the collar of your outfit.
She had the courtesy of leaving the lovebites lower.
Ei
Miko put her up to this.
Being isolated for 500-ish years makes you miss a thing or two and she wanted to make sure you knew you were loved.
So she went to her up-with-the-times kitsune. And Miko delivered, she did you a service, really.
So the next night you get yourself comfortable on the queen-sized bed you and your lover share, patiently waiting for her to join you.
And she does, after stopping by her vanity for reasons yet unknown to you.
She approaches the bed in long, purposeful strides. Crawling to and stopping when she is above you, her right hand supporting her from right beside your pretty little head.
Now you can see why she had a detour.
Caught up in her beauty your brain, like the rest of you, turns to mush. "Why the lipstick?" You whispered, staring at her violet-colored lips.
Leaning down Ei started what would become a nightly routine, giving a peck for every inch of your face.
"For kissing," she says between them, her pace slow and her presence barely felt against your skin.
"It's not necessary," You try to argue before her plush lips land on yours, promptly shutting you up.
"I've heard you might like it more this way."
Well, she certainly didn't hear wrong.
Yanfei
Coming back from settling a very serious civil case, having to go through the two parties' mind-numbing discourse, it is an understatement to say Yanfei was tired.
Entering your home she wanted nothing more than to shed her formal attire and attach herself to her lover for the rest of the night.
Speaking of, there you were, emerging from the kitchen. You made her favorite, remembering her dislike for the sort of case she's dealt with.
Hat forgotten at the entrance Yanfei made a beeline for your warm embrace.
"How did you do today, chatterbox?" The only response you received was akin to a groan.
Chuckling, you picked her face from your chest, "I'm proud of you, y'know? I know it's hard– the effort you put in to help these blokes is admiring." Slowly leaning in you sealed off your declaration with a kiss.
When you pulled away Yanfei was met with the smear of her lipstick left on you. Before you could go for seconds she pushed a hand on your shoulder prompting you to stop.
"Wait, let me take off my makeup first." Her face was as flustered as possible, it was an upgrade from her exhausted look from earlier.
"Making a mess never seemed to stop you before" a mischievous smile played at your lips and gave you a certain glint in your eyes as you leaned to her ear "or perhaps, you like this mess too much, Yan Yan?"
"You're so unfair," She whined as she hid her face back into your chest.
Safe to say your evening meal was cold by the time either of you remembered it.
Hu Tao
Her playful nature and creativity combined nicely when used in her makeup.
The dark tones of her clothing, the rings, and dark red shades of eyeliner added to her ghostly charm, as you lovingly put it.
She also applied a matching lipstick, but it didn't tend to stick for long after she found how flustered you'd get when she peppered your face in kisses.
Especially if you were unfortunate enough to glance into a mirror and see her "artwork". You'd turn crimson, poor you.
Hu Tao was in the parlor, impatiently bouncing her knee until you walked in.
She was, perhaps, a bit too eager to see you.
"My new lipstick came in, you know what that means!" She declared as she stood up, new shade already adorning her lips.
"Um, what?"
":)"
"Tao Tao, butterfly, what does it mean?"
Without a word she started approaching, a mischievous glint in her eye.
From a distance, the retired Lord of Geo heard screams of bloody murder, he sighed. Centuries of protecting Liyue amounted to this.
Kokomi
Her Excellency was usually too busy to give applying makeup much attention and time in her day.
That's how you, her lover and right hand, ended up doing it for her. Especially on days like this, when a festival was to begin in the next hour.
Someone sitting on the high priestess's lap working on her lips would shock the public, seeing it was you who did it however would prove the reaction to be underwhelming.
Nevertheless, Kokomi insisted on not letting anyone in her quarters until the time came to head to the festival. Of course, you were the exception.
"Aaaaand done! What do ya' think?" You held a mirror for her to appreciate your work in.
"It's wonderfully done S/O, I only ask if we could perhaps try another color."
You glanced at the clock before cheerfully presenting her with more options. "Take your pick."
New color picked now Kokomi reached for a cloth to wipe off the current one only to be stopped by your cold hand holding her wrist.
"How about we put it to good use since it's already on?" You said, subtly tapping a finger to your lips.
Now, Kokomi was a rational and composed woman. Just not in this situation where her lover, her weak spot, looked so inviting and was so softly taking her chin with their fingers.
A mischievous one you were, and it send her heart afloat.
Returning your ardour, she leaned in to meet your soft lips. A shiver went down her spine when your other hand tangled in her hair, gently weaving through it.
Her small hands tugged at your clothes, pulling you into herself as much as possible. Being intoxicated by each other, there was little that could make you pull apart willingly.
This meant that only something like the knock at her door could make you two startle away from one another. The knock was accompanied by a voice as well.
"Your excellency, the festival will start soon." Here was Gorou, unknowingly cutting your spur-of-the-moment relaxing session short.
"Thank you general. Join the others, I will come out in a minute."
Looking between your messy hair, clothes in the middle of being undone and the lipstick marks all over every inch of exposed skin her face flushed.
Especially after noticing how much more restraint you've proven as she was mostly as put together as she was half an hour ago.
Only thing she could do now was to stop Gorou from chastising you for arriving late to the festival.
—-—‐—-——-—‐—-——-—‐—-——-—‐—-–
My notes: pov I'm clueless when it comes to make up. I've looked at this for months now and I can't read words anymore. Also:
* you and Ayaka made out in front of the dog, he knows your secrets
* you can't fuck your way out of apologizing properly forever Ningguang
* Zhong Li is tired of your shit Hu Tao
* Kokomi your desperate need for a vacation is showing, same for Yanfei
* Ei, I like you taking action, not so sure about it being advised by Miko

And they were mermaids
Characters:Yoimiya, Rosaria, Hu Tao
Reader:gender-neutral
Wordcount:2k
Warnings:you fall into water a lot, mentions of violence towards mermaids, implied drowning(not you), mentions of kidnapping mermaids
My notes:@williethelemon your mermaid!Yoimiya has basically inspired this so thank you, you're very talented. Anyways, Enjoy!
~♤~
Yoimiya
Mermaids. Your family has told you numerous stories of them. How fishermen caught and sold their flesh to nobles who wanted eternal youth, and how the fishermen died on the stormy seas soon after.
Curiously so, those who ate the merfolk didn't face any misfortune, they enjoyed what they called a 'tasty delicacy' and lived until they could take it no more and ended their lives. You shuddered at the tale even now as you walked along the shore, looking for a quiet place to pass the festival.
Yoimiya also heard her fair share of stories of the humans dwelling on land. Talks about their cruel nature and what they did to poor unfortunate souls who wandered to the surface. Her father always reminded her to stay away and never breach the waters where humans could see her.
All warnings fell on deaf ears after she first saw the 'magic fires' humans would launch in the sky at certain times.
Now she once again sneaked off to see them, the beach wasn't quite the most advantageous place but it's where she was closest to the lights and no one came there since they were busy with the festival. No one, except for you.
As you looked up from your feet leaving tracks in the sand, your breath was caught in your throat.
Upon a smooth rock, a little ways from the shore rested what you always assumed to be just a myth. She lay propped on her elbows, looking at the sky, her long tail swishing impatiently in the water.
You stood frozen in place only moving after being startled by the abrupt beginning of the fireworks, but you could've cared less. As in a trance you carefully walked toward the creature.
Slowly you could distinguish better the pattern on her tail, it looked like one of a koi fish. You've gotten close enough to distinguish where her bright orange tail ended and her torso began when she seemingly sensed your presence, turning abruptly to face you before having a similar reaction to yours.
"You're... a human?"
Oh my Shogun, she could speak. You were beyond flabbergasted, managing to give her a slight nod.
"Did you come to see the magic fire as well?" She asked, much more comfortable with the situation than you.
"You mean the fireworks?" You looked in her smoldering eyes, mentally accepting you might just have gone completely insane.
Her tails perks up from the water "Is that what you call them? Oh, you've gotta tell me more now." She spoke with excitement.
Taking her request more as an order you nodded before awkwardly finding a place to sit in the sand. You have gone from what was a firework made out of to why they were created and what a festival looked like, explaining everything to her as best as you could. By the time you were finished both the fireworks and the night were coming to an end.
During your conversation, you were looking all over each other in curiosity, unbeknownst to both sides.
And how lovely did she think early morning light painted your features, even from her distance she could see just how beautiful you were.
Wait a second. Morning light?
"Shit! I've gotta go back before my old man starts worrying, see you another time"
"Ah- wait I don't even know..." but she was already gone, swimming back to the depths "... your name."
Well, now you've got something to keep your mind occupied until your next meeting.
Rosaria
All people in Mondstadt know not to go into the water surrounding the city. From children to full-grown adults, they all speak of the creature who lurks in the waters and drowns those who fall in.
The few who claim to have seen the creature described it as pale and slender with sharp claws and pointed teeth. You found their descriptions to be ridiculous.
It's true, bodies were found in the water from time to time, but what could you expect when the inn was just a couple of meters away? And they were all thieves judging by their attire so it wasn't as if they'd be missed.
Though your days of skepticism were coming to their end. You found this night to be just right for a walk outside, having reached the bridge of the city you sat atop the barrier and looked up at the sky. It was a beautiful night indeed.
It almost made you want to sleep right there on the stone. While you battled with your eyes to stay awake you failed to keep your hands from slipping.
You went headfirst into the waters below with a deafening splash. If the stone was cold the waters were freezing, and you trashed your hands all you could, but the shock and your lack of talent when it came to swimming made you look like a worm on a hook.
While starting to accept your fate as the next body to be seen floating in the river the next morning you felt slender arms wrap around your chest, pulling you towards the surface with inhuman strength.
Met again with the slow breeze all you could do was gasp greedily for air as your unknown savior pulled you towards the shore.
Your back soon rested on the sands of the shallow water feeling the touch of your rescuer slide off quickly before hearing more water splashing around. Taking a minute to just breathe you slowly opened your eyes looking back again at the night sky.
Quickly you rise to a sitting position and as you do you're met with what you would call one of the wonders of the world.
Not far from you swam the infamous 'creature'. The descriptions of others made her no justice. Pale skin glistened in the moonlight helped by the water droplets sticking to it, wine red hair with choppy short ends seemingly cut with a knife, and a figure to never let your eyes off of.
She turned and swam away soon after, that's when you noticed her tail, long and slim littered with white and silver scales, fins matching her hair in color.
A mermaid.
Oh, how you wished to know more, to come back in the water and swim to her. Yet in a moment of clarity, you decided against it. Now sat up from the water, you set pace back to your home, a strange feeling developing in your chest.
Hu Tao
Back in the days when Cloud Retainer was considered young, Liyue Harbor was much inclined to do things considered not morally right just for profit.
It was said the tears of a mermaid rolled off not as water but as precious pearls, sailors would go and capture them, keeping merfolk in shallow water and collecting their tears by any means possible. Those were the dark times of the geo nation.
The adepti helped free all merfolk who promptly decided to break all contact with humans. The myth was disproven, yet many sailors today like to tell tales.
So was your father, he'd return for the port when you were little and speak of people who lived in the waters below, half-fish half-human. You'd roll your eyes at him now if you could.
One faithful day, however, you took a stroll to the docks, sitting down at the end of a pier you looked towards the never-ending sea, perfect inspiration for your newest piece.
Loud commotions interrupted your scribbling, looking over you could see some men dropped a load into the sea. 'Not my problem' you turned back to your notebook.
"I swear it wasn't my fault, there was something in the water. It- it pulled the crates down!" One of them loudly exclaimed.
"Oh come on! Now you're gonna tell me it was a siren." The other ridiculed. Their back and forth most certainly ripped apart your creative flow. You stood up and decided to come another day.
You ended up returning at dusk, you have deadlines to meet after all. Going to sit at your previous place you pulled out your notebook again.
Everyone seemed to settle, tired from a hard day at work. At first, you didn't even notice the soft melody filling the air.
It belonged to the sea as much as the wind carried it throughout the port. Soon the melody revealed words, the soothing voice spoke of a land veiled in darkness with creatures never seen before, and how these creatures pushed one of their own out into the unknown light.
The melody turned melancholic as it switched to the exiled creature's point of view.
As the melody ended you turned around "your voice is amaizin- huh?" but there was no one in sight. You felt your stomach sink, there was no one on the pier you were sat on.
Have you gone mad? You could swear the voice was right next to you.
You put your palms on the wood to push yourself up when a pair of arms tugged you into the water, having latched on one of your legs.
Immediately swimming to the surface you met her warm red eyes, her flower-like pupil dilating as she looked at your reaction.
"Thank you, stranger" she giggled. So many questions swam through your head. Who was this girl? Why was she swimming here? Why are her eyes like that? How did she have the strength to pull you down?
"Uuhh hello, have you hit your head on the way down?" Ah, yes, you were still in this predicament.
"Who are you?" Good start.
"I'm Hu Tao, the amazing mermaid who sang until just now." She explained with an amused look.
You looked at her for a hot second "yeah, you're crazy, I'm out" you started swimming back to land. She looked upon your figure before rolling her eyes and following suit.
Bored of your lacking speed she swam under you, grabbing you by your arms and rushing up to the shore. Not bothering to slow down once you two reached land she let you go, the build-up dragging you face down in the sand. Have the water not been there you would've probably flown into the bushes.
You stood up, cleaning your face of sand and gravel. "Now, who do you think you... are?" Your tone gradually became a whisper as you turned to see Hu Tao sitting in the shallow water, her tail now visible for you to admire.
"As I said, I'm Hu Tao. Would you mind telling me your name?" She looked up at your soaked self.
Too stunned to speak you took a few steps closer, sinking to sit in front of her, knees pulled close to your chest as if you were a child again.
"I— my name is S/O." You said, sounding defeated, everything you've ever thought you knew felt wrong. You just sat and looked at her shark tail, it was a nice umber color, the underside was fading into a copper shade.
Taking the time you looked up at her as well, looking at her chocolate locks, gazing into her eyes, and stealing just a glance at her pink lips.
"You're gorgeous." You sighed in a daze.
She chuckled, covering her mouth with one of her hands "wasn't I crazy just a minute ago? So undecided." She remarked condescendingly.
Remembering your remark you turned bright red "I'm sorry." You put your hands before yourself apologetically, before realizing another detail of your meeting.
"Wait, you pulled me in the water! Shouldn't you be the one apologizing?" You pointed an accusing finger to which she raised her hands.
"Well, I just wanted to meet eye-to-eye so I could thank you, what's wrong in that?"
Your banter continued till morning, not caring about catching a cold, somebody seeing the two of you, or the forgotten notebook, floating around the pier.
But don't you worry, Hu Tao made sure to return it to you the next day you met each other. The writing was completely unintelligible and the rest of the paper looked unsalvageable, but hey the thought counts.

Calm S/O defending them in a not-so-calm way
Characters: Hu Tao, Eula, Fischl, Yoimiya (separate)
Reader: gender-neutral
Wordcount: 1371
Warnings: a whole lot of swears, mostly empty threats, lots of assholes ahead,
My notes: the mean people are inspired by things I heard while trying to have a quiet walk in the park. What a world am I right?
~♤~
Hu Tao
You and Hu Tao were strolling hand in hand through Liyue, having a nice couple moment and taking in the beauty of the harbor.
However, in your relationship with her, you've found quiet moments to usually be fleeing and such is the case today. While passing by a group you noticed from the corner of your eye the nasty look they threw your partner.
While they still were in earshot you've heard one of them bitch to the other "...why is S/O dating that freak...". Immediately you stopped in your tracks, who did they think they were?
Hu Tao threw you a confused look, maybe she didn't hear them or she was already used to such comments. But by Morax you weren't going to let anybody talk down your lover.
"Excuse me for a moment my butterfly, I might acquire you some new customers." You told her in your usual sweet and polite tone, before making quick steps towards the group, your whole aura changing.
"Ay, you! What did you say about my girlfriend?"
While your loud argument was starting off with volume about how wonderful of a person Hu Tao is, she was busy, making wedding plans that is. She thanked all things who led you into her life and almost caught herself tearing up.
Before she realized this was still a public space and the millelith was called. She grabbed your hand and lead you away before they could arrive and identify the both of you.
"Better sleep with one eye open tonight!" You threw one last threat before taking deep breaths, after a few minutes, as you entered the funeral parlor you were back to your calm self. While Hu Tao couldn't wipe off the grip on her face for the rest of the day.
Eula
After a busy day doing your knightly duties you and Eula went to the Cat's Tail to have a relaxing time, drinking and petting the cats there.
Despite settling at a table in the corner and minding your business the whole night, it seemed impossible for this poor drunk bastard at the bar to leave you two alone.
Whistling and catcalling Eula for the better part of a half-hour, by her request you did your best to ignore him. Until one of his friends at the bar turned to see what he was making such a ruckus about.
Seeing the two of you he grabbed his attention to point out "have you lost your mind? That's the Lawrence bit-" he was quickly interrupted by your mug flying right at his head.
"Keep my girlfriend's name out your fucking mouth." You accentuated every word as if to drill them into his skull. Already up from your table and making your way to them Eula didn't get a chance to try and stop you.
Her reputation bringing you trouble was one of her biggest fears despite you assuring her you didn't mind fighting for your relationship.
She never imagined you actually fighting, yet she couldn't deny the way it warmed her to know how willing you were to protect her honor. Especially since she was raised to be an aristocrat, honor was quite a big deal.
When you and the two drunkards eventually got kicked out she promptly stood up and paid for what you've drunk before going outside to pick you up.
She walked you to your shared home with one hand holding lightly onto the back of your neck and the other holding your hand, not saying a single word to you until you got inside.
Helping you shrug off your coat she hugged you from behind as you were hanging it, taking a deep breath before sighing. "Thank you." She whispered in the nape of your neck.
"But if you so much think of doing it again, I might just have to enact my vengeance upon you sooner." She gave her usual speech before proceeding further into the house where who knows what kind of 'vengeance' now awaits you.
Fischl
Being the favorite subject of Princess Fischl (read: partner) meant most of your time was spent together, which you didn't mind at all, be it translating to people what she was saying or reading together in a corner of the library. It fit well with your down-to-earth personality.
It was a whole other deal when someone decided to be outright rude to her when she was just minding her own business.
Having returned from a successful adventure you two reported back to Katherine, who waited patiently for her speech to end so you could summarize and-
"Excuse me, there are other people in line so speed up your role-playing thing." Looking behind, the leader of an adventurer team was the one who spoke, her head held high and reeking of entitlement.
You signaled Oz to take over and finish with the report as you turned and faced them. "I suggest you start being polite before I make your existence a matter of the past." You somehow managed to hold a barely composed smile, you were ready to throw down with the four of them right then and there.
"Why you little-" Before she could say anything Oz interrupted, "We're done here S/O."
Taking Fischl's hand you walked away in the direction of a bakery, deciding a treat was due for the mission and as a reward for not beating the pulp out of those shitmouths.
Noticing the unusual quietness of said princess you turned your head to find her blushing, words seemingly caught in her throat.
You gave her hand a careful squeeze "are you alright?", she looked at you and nodded. Turning your eyes back to the road you felt as slowly Fischl closed the distance until being able to hold your arm with her free one.
Yoimiya
Being the extremely energetic social person she is, it came as a surprise to most when they found out you two were dating.
Given how likable she is you'd never think people who got irritated with her existed. But yet here you were.
Due to the summer festival approaching Yoimiya had a meeting with the Tri-commission representatives to discuss all about the fireworks in detail. Fireworks are explosives after all.
You've decided to join her after one too many stories about how the commissioners would get impatient and cut her off while she was speaking.
So you stayed "The fireworks are going to be brought by-" and then it happened.
"Spare me the details and just tell us where you're going to leave them, some of us have important jobs to do." He said waving a dismissive hand to her.
A small glance at Yoimiya's disheartened look, that's all it took, politeness being thrown out the window you were gonna make sure he hears every word she has to say. But first, revenge.
Luckily you were well versed in the art of disrespecting disrespectful people.
You slammed your hand on the wooden table to get their attention. "Listen, I know your masculinity is so fragile you feel the need to be an asshole in order to affirm further just how small your dick is," you took a deep breath to pacify the need to strangle him.
"But if you pull a stunt like that again. I am going to make sure your family won't be able to identify you after they find what's left of your body." You said, composing yourself before turning to Yoimiya with your smile now reappearing.
"My dear, I believe you were talking about how the fireworks were going to be distributed." You said becoming your usual self, winking at her from the eye they couldn't see to signal you weren't serious.
"You're– right." Taken aback by your whole performance it took Yoimiya a second before she slowly continued her idea from before.
For the rest of the meeting, the representatives seemingly became very interested in the procedures as your lover explained everything with a passion, while secretly holding your hand under the table. From time to time the man you cussed out would glare at you only to fumble when you glared back at him.
