I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

Are you alright? :( please just block that person if they upset you, I’m sorry you felt alienated
It's not just that person 😔 the whole fandom vibe has been off for a while. I still love the BlitzFizz ship, and there is a version of the characters I will forever cherish, but I don't have the will to create art for now. I think I'll hang in the fringes and still support my boys, maybe get to writing half the ideas I still have in my head, but honestly just waiting for the hype to die so we can enjoy our fandom camp.
I miss the days in fandom where you could proudly call your hyper fixation trash and still love it.

I don't think people truly understand the gravity of Rafah being bombed.
There is nowhere left to go.
The lowest cost is $5,000 USD to flee to Egypt. There has been people paying over $10,000 USD.
That is the only option
Pay or die.
Rafah was the only place in Palestine promised not to be bombed. That promise is broken.
1.5 million people have nowhere to go!
Reminder, if possible, please donate to the PCRF, ANERA, Islamic Relief, Palestine Red Crescent Society, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Defense for Children International - Palestine, Doctors Without Borders, and all other trusted organizations.

I still talk about fanfiction ideas with my fiance. So I guess I'll share some of my ramblings since I have nothing else to offer.

Genuinely am heartbroken to see someone with this opinion wear it so proudly. The whole point of critical analysis is to seek meaning and reason and a catharsis.
As someone who struggled with severe mental illness for years, critical analysis of characters and media really helped me learn how to manage my personality disorder and other disabilities. It helped me relate to myself in ways that therapy never could and I'm so sad that people are just so angry and hateful of emotional exploration.
Especially because so many fans of the shows are struggling. It attracts people who are struggling with trauma and mental illness. And that's an amazing thing. And the critical community is full of just as many fans as there are superficial bashers. Breaking apart something that doesn't work is an exercise in creativity and self exploration.
To be so vile about it is why I no longer associate with the fandom or make art. I can no longer love this series, warts and all, because the loudest voices are the ones saying the worst things and advocating the most nihilistic, misanthropic rhetoric.
If you call yourself or your account "[something] critical", please tell me, how does it feel to have such a boring personality that you resort to defining yourself by who your "enemy" is, instead of who you are?
(this is about vivziepop haters but somehow applies to terfs too)

AS IF UNITY COULDN'T GET ANY FUCKING WORSE
Tumblr media
for context, unity claimed that games in charity bundles would have the new fees waived. but i guess that depends on if unity determines it's a cause it personally likes

The person behind the Martyrs of Gaza account account just posted that their daughter was martyred in November.
The text:
Noor, my daughter, was the only one who held my heart in this world. Her story was different from other girls.
Noor Al-Fara, 13 years old.
She had dreams for the future and was planning to achieve things beyond her age. She lived in her own world, with thoughts and interests that were unique. Whenever someone met her, whether a woman or a man, they would sit with her, chat, and say, "This girl is extraordinary. Mashallah, she seems like a university student, not a child who hasn't even turned 14." Indeed, when they said this, we realized that we are not just numbers. We have souls and bodies, and we have dreams that we want to fulfill in the future. It was as if she sensed that her time in this world was limited, but her dreams were grand, so she raced against time to achieve as much as she could.
As soon as she entered the house, she would start talking as if she had been away from me for a week. She would share many details about herself, her friends, teachers, and school news.
She was an icon at school; she felt like the center of attention among the students. She participated in all academic and non-academic activities, and she was a dynamo at home, on the street, and at school with her friends.
On November 7th, 2023, at 6 o'clock in the morning, the Israeli occupation aircraft bombed the entire square in front of the Farhana School in Khan Younis, and Noor was martyred. Oh God, she left a great void. My life turned into an empty desert after her, despite the crowdedness around us.
