Commission for @darkfumaa of their Siren OC, Ikol.
(I’m surprised there are people that still keep their Siren OCs at all since the Legion’s closed down)

Siren Stories: Siren Rangers (On-going?)
I started this a while back as a joke story because I was reminded of those cheesy teams like the power rangers when I looked at all the siren color schemes. It was originally supposed to be a short funny story, but I had gone further with it than I anticipated and it expanded into something else.
Though, I haven’t finished this as of yet and, with many of the people whose sirens are mention moving away from their sirens, it’s doubtful that I will really. It also didn’t help that I tried a different style of writing and attempted to write each character perfectly based on their sirens personalities which I feel like I might’ve failed at. Also, the siren au might also be over as well sadly. :/ Nonetheless, I figured that I shouldn’t let this just be a waste and decided to post what had been done.
If I ever come back to this, I may finish this story in the future, but, for now, this is it. I’m not sure that it’s really all that good, but I hope that you do find it at least a little interesting.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(I)Constantine let out a long sigh as he walked toward the large office building. He wasn’t looking forward to this meeting. A few days ago, he had received an order from his company to meet with another group of sirens to take out a criminal named Damianus Corvez. That wasn’t anything new, most companies sent sirens to take out certain targets, but it was unusual that his company would have him work with other sirens. He wasn’t sure how he would feel about working with them, but-
His train of thought was cut off as he heard a familiar voice call out. “Connie!”
Turning around quickly, he spotted Tsubame Kobayashi walking toward him. She wore her usual outfit: heels, a plain white shirt with a black jacket and black skirt-shorts. Her black hair was mostly short with some strands growing longer on the right side of her head. A shamisen was strapped to her back, almost as if she just got back from a show. Her green eyes showed her puzzlement as she drew closer.
“Why are you here? Are you one of the sirens I’m going to be working with?” She looked around him as if the other five sirens were hiding behind him.
Constantine shrugged his shoulders. “Same reason you’re here it seems. Looks like we’re going to be working together…”
Quietly, he was happy that a he would be working with a familiar face. She wasn’t someone he would a friend, but he had grown close to her through their time together and he felt that he could trust her. At the very least, it was one less person he’d have to worry about.
They had continued to walk toward the building as they talked, but, abruptly, Tsubame stopped.
Constantine turned to her. “Something wrong?”
“Who’s that?” Tsubame pointed toward the building.
He followed her gaze and spotted a young woman standing by the entrance. She appeared to be wearing a school dress, though it was slightly off. She wore a long, grey shirt that was cut to leave her shoulders’ bare and a black skirt. A yellow sash was wrapped around her waist and her long, rust-red hair was decorated with a yellow flower. Her eyes were probably the strangest thing about her as they were an unnatural color, red.
The two of them continued toward the door as the girl turned and watched their progress.
As they came within a few feet from her, the girl finally spoke warily. “Who are you?”
“I’m Tsubame Kobayashi and this is my…. friend, Constantine Aurelius. I take it you also got a similar order to come here?”
The girl’s eyes looked from Constatine to Tsubame, her mind working on a plan in case she needed to get away quickly.
“I’m Charisa May-Belle and… yes, I was told to meet another group of sirens here.” Her eyes never wavering from them as she talked.
“Well…” Constantine smiled as he moved past her and opened the door. “…we should go and inside and meet the others then.”
Charisa watch carefully as the two of them walked inside before she followed.
As they entered the building, the secretary behind the desk looked up and stood to greet them.
“You must be the sirens Golden Eagle, Long Tailed Widow, and Violet-green Swallow, correct?” Seeing them nod in confirmation, he continued, “Good. The other sirens are already waiting for you. Follow me.”
The secretary led the way into a long hallway, then turned the corner and led them up a flight of stairs. Coming to a stop at a room marked ‘105’, the secretary held the door opened for them.
Inside was what could be described as an average meeting room. The walls were a dull gray with a monitor mounted on the back wall. In the center of the room was a rectangular table with five desk chairs on either side and one on the far end. As he looked around the room, Constantine took noticed that the other four sirens were in the room with them.
On the far-left side of the table, spinning around in a chair, was Grayson ‘Sage’ Wantanabe, the Blue Heron. His short, brown hair was somewhat messy and his smile twitched every so often. He wore a plain blue shirt and jeans with a slightly battered, blue jacket. His eyes were covered by a pair of sunglasses, but he had a feeling they would have a crazy glint in them. Constantine remember reading something about how he became mentally unstable after his company ripped both his wings.
His face instantly light up with a huge, nervous grin as he saw Constantine and Tsubame. “Oh wow…uh hey Connie and Tsuba! How are you? You’re fine of course! Why wouldn’t you be? I always know when you guys are fine. Say… um… would you guys like to hang out after this? It would be… nice.”
Constantine was surprised that Sage knew of him, but he quickly recovered. “Uh…maybe. We’ll see.”
“A-awesome!” Sage laughed with glee.
Across from Sage, giving him a cold, distasteful look, was Natasha Smith, the White Dove. Her short, light-brown hair was brushed down until it almost touched her shoulders. Her clothes consisted of a short, light brown jacket, a plain, white tank top, and gray pants. Her eyes were constantly scanning the other people in the room. All and all, she had the look of someone that didn’t want to be here. Which made two of us, he thought.
She made a small glance in his direction before returning her attention back to Sage. “Do you have to make such a big scene?”
Sage shrugged and continued to ignore her.
“Does it really matter?” A voice called out in a bored tone across the room.
Turning to look toward the source of the voice, Constantine could vaguely make out the form of Ethan Cherny, the Purple Gallinule, leaning against a wall in the corner of the room. His clothes appeared to be unkempt, with part of his dress shirt hanging outside his pants and his collar left unbuttoned. His brown hair was also somewhat messy as well. He seemed to have a complete lack of interest in the people around him; his expression conveying his uncaring manner.
Natasha looked pointedly at Ethan. “No, but…”
“Then stop complaining about it.” Ethan said bluntly.
Her mouth opened and closed as a frown creased her forehead, but she said nothing else.
While this was happening, Eamon Brown, the Black Crow, was making his way toward Tsubame. He was dressed completely in black; his hoodie pulled over his head. Constantine had heard that Eamon had made himself an angel of death, choosing to take the life force from those who were dying or corrupted instead of innocent people.
“Y-you’re Tsubame Kobayashi!” Eamon’s green eyes were alight with joy as he stopped in front of Tsubame. “Oh…oh my god! I didn’t know you were going to be here! I’m your biggest fan! I have all your cds and…wait? Y-you’re a siren!?”
Tsuba smiled politely as she listened to his excited chatter. “Yep and it’s nice to meet you. I’m always happy to meet with one of my fans.”
As they continued to talk, the door opened, causing everyone to stop and look to see a man walk into the room. The man was clean shaven and he wore a simple black suit and cap. His eyes were hidden behind a pair of sunglasses and his face was set in a neutral expression.
His head turned from side to side; checking to see that everyone was here. “Thank you for coming. If you can all take a seat we can get started.”
Quietly, everyone went to take a seat and waited as the man took a seat at the end of the table. The monitor flashed on to show the picture of their target. He appeared to be in his fifties; his brown hair showed signs of turning gray. Yet, despite that, he looked fit and fairly muscled for his age. However, it was his eyes that was most unsettling: his dull, gray eyes cold and void of life.
“Damianus Corvez is your target. We have reason to believe that he is responsible for the deaths of several assets from different companies and is putting us at risk to exposure to the public.”
“What do you mean by exposure?”, Ethan asked.
“And why us? Isn’t this kind of thing usually handled by the company?”,  Tsubame added.
“Normally, yes. We don’t usually have our sirens deal with these sorts of cases. Instead, we normally hire a few hitmen to take care of such problems, but they were all killed…”
Constantine was starting to get why they were here. “How did they die?”
“I’ll get to that in a bit. It had happened a few months ago when some of the sirens and managers were killed. At the time, most of the companies assumed one of our own was stepping up the game. However, more incidents began to happen. The only thing they had in common was that their performances were attended by this man, who also happens to own a music company called Diamond Studios.”
“So, they’re taking out their competition. Doesn’t seem all that unusual.” Charisa pointed out.
“Yes, except that he isn’t a part of the siren organization. In fact, we couldn’t even find any evidence that he knew of our organization. Which makes what I’m about to say next... troubling.”
The monitor screen switch to a picture of a concert hall. Underneath was a line of text talking about massive accounts of death through mysterious circumstances.
“The hitman we had hired were sent to assassinate Damianus at a concert he was hosting, but, instead, everyone who attended the event suddenly died. The authorizes couldn’t find any signs of entry wounds or trauma…” His voice trailed off as he waited for them to connect the pieces.
Finally, Charisa whispered, “They had their life force drained.”
The man nodded his head towards her. “That’s correct.”
“Wait!” Sage interrupted. “How is that possible if he’s not part of the siren organization? Besides that, it takes a lot of time to take even a single person’s life force. How-”
“We don’t know. All that we know is that he did it and he’s planning on doing it again tomorrow at the Team Power convention.”
The monitor shut off as he continued. “As it stands, the authorizes have the public believing that there was a gas leak that suffocated everyone at the concert. However, if this happens again, it may very well alarm the public to our existence. Fortunately, the seven of you were nearby, which is much more than we can ask for.”
The man stood up and looked around the room. “Any more questions?”
The room was quiet as they took in everything they heard. After a moment, Sage raised his hand. “How are we getting in? Will we be sneaking in?”
The man gave them a small, thin smile. “No. You’re going to be attending the convention. From this point onward, the seven of you are now cosplayers.”
(II)” Are they seriously making us wear t-these things?” Natasha gestured to her outfit. Each of them were given a colored jumpsuit that matched the color of their wings. In addition, their masks had been modified with a helmet to match with the rest of the outfit. The result was matching outfits that they could use to disguise themselves while allowing them to use their wings if necessary, which would be seen as a part of their costume.
Currently, the group was heading toward the convention in a private bus. Their orders were clear. They were to stop another incident from occurring and eliminate Damianus Corvez in the process. Their companies had made it clear that failure would not be tolerated.
Charisa looked at their outfit uncomfortably. “I must admit they’re… a bit cheesy.”
“I kind of like them actually.” Sage grinned at Constantine.
“It doesn’t matter if we like them or not.”, Constantine replied to her complaint. “We just have to use them to get inside the convention. Speaking of…” He turned toward the seat in front of him where Tsubame was. “… what does the paper say about our role?”
Natasha watched from the back as Tsubame pulled out a document given to them. After a few moments, she turned to the group.
“According to this, we’re roleplaying as the Avis Rangers (Latin for Birds), which seems to be some sort of parody for another team. Anyway, the red ranger is supposed to be the leader, the entire team poses all the time in front of explosions, and we’re supposed to talk very cheesy.”
“How exactly are we supposed to talk cheesy?” Charisa interjected.
“It’s honestly not that hard.” Ethan shrugged. “Just have act a bit… too cheerful I guess you can say.”
“Too cheerful. Got it. Anything else?” Constantine looked at Tsubame, who was already shaking her head.
“That’s pretty much it.”, she said as she put the document away.
“In that case, let’s get ourselves ready. We’ll be there in about…” He looked at his watch. “…twenty minutes...”
The ride to the convention was mostly silent as the group started to get ready. Natasha looked at the mask in her hand with a distasteful expression. How many times has she don this mask and how many more times will she have to do it again? It sickened her, yet she had little choice. Reluctantly, she put on the mask, feeling her wings coming to life.
Unable to help herself, she looked over her left shoulder, glancing at her ruined wing with a grimace. As she did though, she noticed that Sage was hiding near the back of the bus. What was he doing now?
Standing up, she made her way to the back of the bus. A few looked up as she passed, but they mostly ignored her as she made her way back. She was about to ask Sage what he was doing as she drew closer to him but stopped when she saw his wings.
Both of his wings were ripped and torn until they barely looked functional. It was surprising that he was even alive as most sirens who had both their wings ripped would’ve most likely died or, at the very least, incapacitated.
Sage looked up at the sound of her voice and grinned shyly. “Um… how long are you going to stand there.”
“Oh, uh, sorry!”, she said, realizing that she had been staring at his wings. Shamefaced, she sat down from across the row from him.
“It’s fine. You’re not the first to be shocked by my wings’ appearance.”
Natasha winced, objecting, “It’s not that. I was just surprised by how much pain you’ve endured.”
He laughed at that, though there was a hint of sadness in his voice that she could make out. “Well, it’s not like I’m not the only one here who’s suffered, right?” The bus became dreadfully silent following that. Perhaps he had just be referring to her own wing, but a number of the sirens here had gone through hell themselves in their own way.
There wasn’t much she could think to say, but then there was nothing to be said. Words were empty. Yet, she wasn’t going to let go like this. Though she still had her reservations on the group, she would at least make an attempt to work with the Blue Heron. Sighing, she whispered softly to herself, “This is going to be a long day.”
The bus came to a stop outside of the convention. Large, colorful crowds had already gathered at the entrance with a few setting up shop right outside to sell their merch and food. Though many of them wore casual clothing, there were a number of cosplayers in the crowd dressed in the similar ‘team power’ style with a variety of designs and colors.
The party slowly disembark and gathered up on the sidewalk in a loose circle. Natasha instinctively turned her attention to Constantine like everyone else, assuming that he would take the lead. She noticed that he seemed a bit taken aback by them, rubbing the back of his nervously as he looked at them. Though, he must’ve realized he needed to say something as he straightened up.
“Right… we all know why we’re here. However, let’s try not to act too hastily. First, we have to figure out where he is and gather what information we can about his plans here. So, for now, we’ll split up and met back up near the entrance. Me, Tsubame, and Charisa will scout the stage area in the meantime. Sound good?” No one objected so Constantine clapped his hands together. “Alright. Let’s get going then.”
Constantine, Tsubame, and Charisa headed inside first, then followed by Ethan and Eamon who went in a different direction. That just left Sage and her to their own devices as they walked in…
(III) This sucked! Sage pushed pass a group doing a photoshoot, mumbling to himself as they walked toward the shopping stands. He had wanted to go with Constantine and Tsubame, but things never seemed to go his way. It would’ve been a nice excuse to be near them. Instead, he looked over his shoulder at Natasha, the White Dove.
He didn’t have much thoughts on her nor did he dislike her. She obviously knew hardship unlike all these people around them. Messing around, laughing as they indulged themselves. So completely unaware that they were all going to die. The only reason he was here was because of the company had told him to be here. Plus, the chance to meet the people closest to his heart in person was something he couldn’t pass up.
Question is; what should he do now? They weren’t given any sort of goal other than ‘find information’. They knew little to begin with and the likelihood of finding something they didn’t know just walking around seemed ridiculous.
‘Could look at some merchandise and talk with the attendees.’, said the voice of his brother.
Yea? What then? Not like I can go up to them and ask if they knew anything about a mass killer. They’d think I’m insane!
‘You’re already insane.’ The voice pointed out to which he had no reasonable counter. The voice then added, ‘Look, you just have to ask if there’s anything strange going on at the event and, who knows, you might impress them if you find something useful.’
Sage beamed at that, realizing his brother was right. “I’ll do that then.”
“Do what?” Natasha asked, raising an eyebrow in question as he turned to her. “My brother said we should talk around and see if we can learn something.” Natasha stared at him like his head was on fire, but she seemed to come around to the idea.
Though, as they walked around and spoke with a few people, it became clear that they didn’t really have any idea if something was going on. Just a few new display stands here and there along with a new show called ‘Cupcake Wars’ airing live near the concession stands.
It was starting to look like a waste of time until they came across a cosplayer group practicing with smoke bombs and posing in an area to the side of the plushie stands. The leader, a girl dressed in a spinoff uniform of the Voltron series, told them of the ‘Team Design Competition’. While past events had taken place in the center of the convention, the event for this year would be taking place near the rear of the building where they had recently set up stage equipment at the expense of Diamond Studios.
The two of them looked at each other. It wasn’t a lot to go on, but it was a clue nonetheless. After thanking them for the information and swiping a few smoke bombs for himself because, ‘Hey! Why not?’; they took their leave and started to head back.
“It’s something at least.” Natasha muttered. Sage looked at her, grinning madly as he tossed a small, round smoke bomb in his hand. “Most certainly.”
(IV) “’Look for information’, huh? Not much of a plan, but then we don’t really have much of a leader for this group.” Ethan glanced at the young, dark figure following him, mostly out of mild curiosity if he would say anything, but he showed no sign of listening. That was fine with him. He had no desire to make friends.
Though, it was a little unnerving how silent the Crow was being. With the exception of his outburst at the meeting earlier, he hadn’t said much. The rest of the time he had remained silent. Though, now that he thought about it, Eamon was almost like him before he had met Karen. Cold and almost unwilling to get close to others and at a young age as well.
He sighed. They were practically the same.
There was no reason to say anything to him, but there was a part of him that felt compelled to speak with the kid. Not sure why he wanted to. Maybe out of moral obligation having gone through hell or just a silent wish that he had wanted someone to do the same for him. Regardless, once they neared a more secluded area, behind the large signs for the meet and greets, he pulled him to the side.
“You doing alright?”, he asked.
Eamon took a step back from him. “What?” He asked, taking a few moments to add, “I-I’m fine… why did you pull us over here?”
Hesitation.
“Look.” Ethan put a hand on his shoulder though he was unsure what he was doing. “I know you probably don’t like any of us and that you’ve probably been through hell. I understand what you’ve went through and I just want to say that… I’m here if you need someone to talk to.”
It was a generic ‘let me help you’ speech, but it was something that, surprisingly, he was a little bit genuine about. He half expected Eamon to brush him off though. Yet, the young man simply nodded his head, saying softly, “Thank you… it means a lot, but I really am fine. Just… well…” His voice trailed off.
“What? You can tell me.”, he prompted reassuringly.
He looked up at him, as if to see if he could trust him, then, hesitantly, he explained, “I’m not used being around so many people. I normally stay out of sight and… I spend most of my time alone. As such…”
He’s freaking out now, Ethan finished the thought. He looked around for a moment, then suggested, “You can stay here if you want.” Even before the words left his mouth though, he was shaking his head. “I can’t let you do everything. I’ll be okay.” He eyed him for a moment, not believing him, but he wasn’t going to stop him if he chooses to continuing following.
“Are you sure?”
A nod.
Ethan smiled softly and clapped his shoulder. “Okay. Just let me know if-“
“Wait. Do you see that girl?”
Ethan’s smile died as quickly as it came at his serious tone and he turned to follow Eamon’s line of sight; spotting a cosplayer walking past a few table. The somewhat short woman was dressed in a red and white jumpsuit with five, long tails trailing on the ground behind her. Her face was hidden behind a mask shaped like a fox, making it difficult to guess her age. Yet, he could see why Eamon had pointed her out.
The tails had lifted up.
It was brief and there was no reason to assume that something was off, but there was an aura around her that sent a chill down his spine. Almost like that of a predator stalking its prey. Unnerving as the feeling was though, that didn’t stop them from following her.
She moved quickly and purposely stuck to the shadows while navigating the beam structures that and the occasional bystander who snuck away from the crowds. Every now and then she would look back to see if she was being followed, but they were experienced enough when it came to stalking targets. There had been a moment when they lost her when she stepped out into the crowd and he thought she had disappeared until Eamon pointed her out stepping through a door near the photoshoot spot.
The duo moved through the crowd, waiting outside for a few moments before he motioned Eamon to peek through the door. A few seconds and a bit of careful observation, they walked through the entrance and into a long hallway just as the woman walked through one of the doors that lined the wall. Silently, they walked down the hallway where they could make out the hush tones of individuals talking inside. Fortunately, the door hadn’t been closed so the pair managed to sneak into the large room undetected. They hide behind a stack of black crates and peered out at the small gathering at the table in the center of the room. The room was obviously for storage with a wide variety of costumes on racks and musical instruments placed careful in the corner of the room.
Along with the woman, there were four other people dressed in a much similar ranger fashion: white, yellow, gray, and black along with the red. A team of five. Their color combination was a bit odd for the event, but, then, he felt that they weren’t trying to win. However, it was the screen at the end of the table that caught his attention.
Brown, graying hair? Check.
Around fifty years of age? Check.
Fit and well-muscled? Check.
Dull, gray eyes? Check.
No mistaking it then, that’s Damianus Corvez.
The older man acknowledged the woman’s appearance, motioning for her to speak. “Well Jules?”
The woman looked around the table, then said, “I saw them. They’re here.”
A booming laugh filled the room as the yellow ranger rolled back in his chair. “Awesome! The little birdies have come to play.”
“That’s hardly good news...”, The gray ranger muttered softly, folding her arms across her chest. “We can’t drain their…” She hesitates for just a second, then continues. “…lifeforce if they resist.”
The white ranger chuckled, his two, white tails wagging ever so slightly. “We can still kill them.” The black ranger then adding to his comment, “Honestly don’t see why we haven’t attacked them now while they’re still separated. Like, I get it that we’re still trying to keep things hush, hush, but we’ve already blown our cover. Don’t even get why we’re even doing th-“
“That’s enough.” The old man’s voice was quiet, but the steel in his voice made everyone stop midsentence. His eyes bore into each of them, seeing if they would start up again, before his attention to the black ranger. “It’s none of your concern. Just do what you’re told and everything will work out fine Davis. Unless, that is, you don’t care about what happens to that family of yours.”
Anger. Though his face was hidden by his mask, the tension in his body gave it away.
Ethan rubbed his chin thoughtful. Their relationship was quite similar to that of most sirens and mangers. At least, their friend Daminus was more inclined to use fear and threats to control. Perhaps taking him out now would end things quickly. Then again, there was no guarantee the two of them could kill him before they realized what was going on. Plus, they had little knowledge on them.
Though it was clear that their tails were similar to a siren’s wings and the fact that each held a select number of them possibly suggested that the lifeforce they drained created new tails over time. Though, whether they were truly similar to sirens or had their own specializations was something that made him hesitate now.
It was a lot to mull over, but the talking had quickly started up again and he listened in just as Daminus started to speak again.
“… concern. The nerve agent will take care of them when they show up. In the meantime-“
What he was about to say next he would never know as Eamon pulled him towards the exit. He resisted, but he was persistent and, being faced with the risk of being caught, followed him back out into the crowd. Eventually, the two gathered their senses at the place where their chase had begun. Eamon was breathing heavily, but he swallowed and turned to him, apologizing as he explained, “Sorry. I know we could’ve learned more, but they sounded that they were wrapping up and, well, I didn’t want to get us caught.”
Ethan looked at him for a long moment, then accepted his explanation. Truth be told, they had already learned enough. Their enemies were like them, but of a new species that they had never known to exist. Based upon their tails and the shape of their masks, he assumed their masks were based on foxes and, by extension, the Yokai known as Kitsune.
Though what was most troubling was their knowledge of their presence. If they didn’t meet back up soon…
“Let’s hurry back and warn the others.”

Hey...
So, I’ve put the one story I’ve been trying to get done for over a year to the side for the moment, but I’m planning on finishing it (hopefully) during Thanksgiving when I have a week off from everything. Most people probably have no idea what it is, but it’s something I promised to do several times and I have an obligation to deliver it (no matter how poor I feel like it’s gotten.)
That being said, I have a question. (Which no one is probably going to care about either XD) Would you mind if I made this a rp blog as well? Only reason I asked is because I was interested in it by a post I saw from another siren asking about rps, but I wasn’t sure if I should because I don’t want to suddenly spam people with a bunch of threads.
SO... yea. Thoughts?

You're very significant to everyone and you've helped them in hard times whether you realize it or not. You're a nice person and people notice how good natured you are. I get that you're probably depressed and probably doubt a lot of things in your life, but just be aware that many of us do care about you. Just wish we could do more for you.

Entry by @darkfuuma
This is my Traditional Entry for the contest.
Siren: Black Crow
Title: Maneo Quietus (Latin: Last or to await death/something that causes death)
Music: Dark Ambient
(Had a few mess ups and a change of plans, but I think it turn out well. Have absolutely no idea how to draw sand, but did what I did XD. Half the crow’s face is a skeleton. Did consider using a red pen to just color the ‘eye’, but decided against it. Did attempt a cloudy background, but was told the one without was easier to distinguish between sky and ground so… went with that. Happy Birthday Sai!
I wasn’t sure what I could get you, but I decided to just write a small, short story for you. It might not be much, but just wanted to wish you a happy birthday so...
Happy Birthday! ^^
@emo-rock-tale
@sai-shou
“Of course, it would rain today…”
Faith stared out the window as they drove by; watching people looking for shelter as the rain poured down around them. She was completely exhausted. The gig that day had been on short notice and there had been little time to prepare. Needless to say; it had been a long day. The only thing she wanted to do now was to get home and crash into the nearest bed she could find.
The bus made a stop to allow an old couple and a small girl to board. The girl giggled as she played with her toy; the older couple smiling at their daughter as they sat down across from her, asking, “Did you have fun?”
“Yes! It was the best birthday ever!”, the girl exclaimed with glee.
Faith watched the family for a bit; a wistful smile on her face as she listened. It was her birthday today, wasn’t it? She must’ve forgotten. She’s been so busy lately that…. It didn’t matter. The only one who would’ve remembered anyway was Amelia. She was probably asleep by now. That was fine. There wasn’t a lot of people she would’ve celebrated with anyway. Most of the time… she couldn’t help but feel like she was a bird trapped in a cage; alone despite everything around her.
She thought back, thinking about the last time she ever had a birthday with her parents. What was it? Several years since that day… It was funny. It almost felt like it was just yesterday when her parents and sister threw a surprise party for her. She could still remember their laughter. Still taste the cake they had made for her. Still remember their cheers when she blew out the candles.
Now… she sighed as she looked at her mask. It was just them.
The bus eventually reached her stop; pulling her hood up as she stepped out into the rain. Their apartment was close by and it didn’t take her long to get home. She stood outside for a moment, taking a few deep breathes before she walked in, calling out softly, “Amelia? I’m home….”
“Happy Birthday!”
“Wha-aa!?”, Faith exclaimed, jumping in surprise as the lights came on to reveal a large crowd of people gathered around the door. Her eyes were wide with amazement as she looked around. Ethan stood to her right, holding out a few presents with a silly smile on his face. Beside him, Arlette, Mina, and Lara held up a ‘Happy Birthday’ sign; the signatures of everyone at the party written under the bold letters. Behind them, Hazel stood there in the corner, smiling gently as she watched. Stand to her left was Constantine and Tsubame, waving while holding up a camera to record the moment.
Several other sirens she recognized also waved and called out cheers of congratulations. However, standing in the center of the group was non-other than her sister, a wide, ridiculous grin on her face as she presented her birthday cake.
“Happy Birthday sis! Sorry it’s a bit late, but we didn’t expect you to be out so late. I hope it’s okay.”
She was speechless. She didn’t think so many people would’ve thrown a surprise party just for her, but…. She was wrong. She stood there for a moment, then she stepped forward to meet them; placing her mask on the stand as she walked over to her sister. Perhaps…. she could step out of the cage and share this moment with them.
To just be happy.
