⛤Candle Magick⛤
What Is Candle Magick
Candle magick is one of the most simplistic forms of Spellcasting. It is considered Sympathetic Magick (the idea that a person/ thing can be affected by actions performed against something that represents them: ‘like begets like’) and is a method that does not require a lot of fancy ritual or expensive ceremonial artifacts. Anyone can cast a candle spell.
Aspects of Candle Magick
The main aspects of Candle Magick is the colour of the candle as well as the shape and size, any alterations made to it (such as carving words or sigils) also if the candle is fragrant. Also the burn of the candle should be noted.
·         Decide on a goal
·         Visualize the end result
·         Focus your intent
Colour Associations - Candle Magick
White: Destruction of negative energy, peace, truth and purity. (white candles can also be used as a substitution for other colours in spells and rituals)
Purple: Spiritual awareness, wisdom, tranquility
Lavender: Intuition, paranormal, peace, healing
Blue/ Deep Blue: meditation, healing, forgiveness, inspiration, fidelity, happiness, open communication
Green: money, fertility, luck, abundance, health, success
Rose/ Pink: Positive self love, friendship, harmony, joy
Yellow: Realizing and manifesting thoughts, confidence, bringing plans into action, creativity, intelligence, mental clarity, clairvoyance
Orange: Joy, energy, education, strength, attraction, stimulation
Red/ Deep Red: Passion, energy, love, lust, relationships, sex, vitality, courage
Black: Protection, absorption and destruction of negative energies, repelling negative energy
Reading A Candle
Reading a candle can depend on the type of candle. When reading a taper candle one will often look to the way the flame acts, whereas reading a jar candle, one may read the glass instead. Remember that factors such as a draught, or even the way the candle was made can affect the burn.
The Flame
Strong Flame/ High Flame - Means your energies are raised. There is a lot of energy behind your spell and little to no resistance. A strong flame is a god sign that your spell is focused and working. High, aggressive flames flickering in large strokes can show that there are deities/ spirits there to aid your magick. When using two candles to be representative of people, the candle with the higher flame has authority over the other.
Weak Flame/ Low Flame - A small flame or weak flame is a sign that the magick being cast is facing strong opposition especially if the candle burns low. This could also symbolize that the time of the working could be wrong or that the outcome you are asking for is unlikely or unfavorable in the long run. A cleansing or banishing my be needed and a different type of candle should be burned to counter the negative energies.
Jumping/ Dancing Flame - This signifies a high but chaotic energy and is indicative of strong emotions. There may be some resistance against you. Try closing your circle and bringing your mind back to focus before continuing. A large dancing flame suggests success but with potential complications.
Flickering Flame/ Noisy Candle - If there is no breeze it means that there are spirits nearby. If the flame pops while flickering that is signifying that the spirit is trying to communicate with you or send you a message. The louder the noise, the more urgent the communication.
Flame Catches Something On Fire - There are obstacles but the spell is working hard to try to overcome these from the beginning and has a good chance of being successful. This can also be a sign that a spell is working against you.
The Top of the Candle Catches On Fire - There are obstacles against you but the spell is working hard to overcome them and will most likely be successful. This could mean that the target of the spell or spirits/ energies around the target are resistant to the spell. If the wax remains pooled together it means that everything you need for the spell to work is in place.
Multiple Flames/ Twin Flames - This indicates something is working alongside you or against you and indicates the presence of others, either spirits, deities or human getting involved.
Vanishing Flame - The spirit in question may disagree with your motives or your intent is insufficient. Sharpen your intent and rephrase/ refine your petition and motives before trying again.
The Candle Won’t Light - This means another type of spell should be used for this kind of working, you may be using the wrong candle and cleansing should be done before continuing.
The Candle Will Not Stay Lit - The working is finished, and a stronger opposing force has put it to an end. This usually means that the result or petition of the spell will not manifest. However in some cases it can mean the objective has already been attained.
You Had To Relight Flame - This can mean that the result manifested during the spell. It can also mean that the result you seeks outcome has already been determined.
Flame Can’t Be Blown Out - This means that the spirit you are working with doesn’t want the fame to be snuffed out yet. Let the spirit continue its work or ask permission before extinguishing again.
Low Flame that Drowns in Wax - If a small flame drowns in wax it is means your petition will most likely not be granted at this time.
Burning on One Side Only - This could result in a partial success, but can symbolize that things are left unresolved or unsettled. Try again with a different type of candle after refocusing your intention.
Smoking Candle - Negativity is being burned away
The Candle Explodes - This is a bad sign, and could be representative of someone attacking you, a person having negative intentions towards you and the candle exploding was the spell protecting you from negative energy. If you are casting a hex, this is a symbol that the person you are attacking is protected.
 The Smoke
Smoke Moves Towards You -  This means that your petition will most likely be heard or granted. For spells of love, money and healing this is a good sign. However if the smoke from a hexing candle moves towards you or fills up the room it may mean that you can’t escape taking responsibility for your actions and the effects of your magic.
Smoke Moves Away From you - If the smoke moves away from you this means that you will need a great deal of focus and persistence for your petition to be granted. If the smoke moves drastically away from you it can mean that the energies of the spell are outward bound. This can mean something is escaping your grasp, however in spells manipulate or influence others this can mean the spell is going as planned.
Smoke blows to Your Left - Your subconscious is too emotionally involved and may end up overpowering your petition.
Smoke blows to Your Right - Use your head rather than your emotions to follow your intent.
Smoke Direction
East - Something powerful is assisting you
North - You are ready to begin your ritual
South - The spell will be successful
West - Something powerful is interfeering

Let me talk about Athena
Tumblr media
Do not get me wrong. I love my home girl Athena. I feel like she always has my back and as I continue this spiritual journey and discover new things, I know that she’s one of the deities I turn to when looking for guidance and wisdom. There’s very few negative things I have to say about her, except that sometimes she can be a little stern and overtly practical. She probably pinches the bridge of her nose when she sees me (the goblin that I am) asking for her advice.
That being said, it’s not an issue with Athena that I have, it’s an issue with how she’s portrayed. I often hear how she’s the goddess of wisdom, war, and battle strategy. That is true, those are her patronages and aspects. However, all too often when I look at the neo-pagan or witch community, she’s portrayed only under those aspects. Her role as a bestower of wisdom and patron of heroes and soldiers are two of her aspects, but I see a lot of her other aspects down-played.
While she is the embodiment of wisdom and perhaps more powerful than Zeus (sorry sir, but you did eat Metis in order to keep Athena from being born), she is also the goddess of crafts, civilization, politics, metalworking, and skill. In a modern interpretation and practice, her importance to pagans living in the 21st century possibly outshines gods like Apollo or Zeus. When I think of patrons of cities or civilizations, Athena is the one I think of. Urban planning, architecture, agriculture, infrastructure, etc. all fall under her domain. But when I see the witch community, these aspects hold less importance than wisdom. This may not be entirely true, but this is what I at least have observed.
Another aspect of hers that gets down-played is her role as goddess of handicrafts. Things like sewing, weaving, and other such things fall under her domain too. In ancient Greece and up to the modern era, weaving and sewing were considered largely women’s work. I think as a society we have forgotten the importance of clothing as more than just a means of covering up and showing off. In a world of fast fashion in which the industry is not only unsustainable in terms of clothing people, it is, in fact, damaging the environment as the fashion industry is partially responsible for heaps of garbage that is thrown away instead of reused or recycled. I’m not saying we should go back to buying sheep, learning to weave, and make our own clothing. For many, that is not an option. What I am saying is that we need to rethink what clothing and fashion mean to us, especially on an socio-economic scale both in the macro and micro sense. It could just be my own personal opinion, however I feel that there’s a correlation between the downplaying of Athena’s patronage of handicrafts like sewing and the insipid way we think about clothing and general lack of skill in sewing is correlated. But that’s just my personal opinion.

Today’s energy is all about letting go of what no longer serves you so you can make space for what you’ve been growing toward, Lovelies. Let yourself off the hook… and maybe a couple of other people, too.
